Imphal, 12 December 2016 ( Evening News ) :As observed every year, Nupi lal memorial is being observed across the state today in remembrance of the Manipuri women who waged two historic wars in 1904 and 1939 against mass exploitation and artificial famine triggered by the British imperialists. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam paid tributes at the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex. Speaking on the occasion, Okram Ibobi asked the people of Manipur to not forget the sacrifice of the women in these wars. In a democracy, not all wishes are fulfilled and one should not carry out violent agitations. He further said violent protests will only cause hardships to the people of the state and not bring about any solution.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister, Gaikhangam said there were no uprising of women in any part of the world. The revolt against the British by the women of Manipur in 1939 is the only one in history. All other protests by women in the world were against crime committed towards women, however the uprising of Manipuri women were not only for women, but for the society as a whole. He said it will be correct in mentioning that the day is being observed to remember women. Gaikhangam further said the occasion will be complete if we all took an oath to follow the footsteps of the women who sacrificed their lives for a better society.

Nupi Lal is also being observed by Nupi Lal Ningshing Lamjel & Ningshing Thouram, committee. 25th State Level, Nupi Lal memorial race, was the main attraction of the event. Nupi Lal memorial race was flagged off at 7 o'Clock this morning from Nupi Lal Memorial Complex and the race ended at Singjamei Super Market. The memorial race was held in three categories – for  age 35 years to 45 years, 46 to 58 years and 58 to 59 years. 1,110 women took part in the race. Winners and participants were accorded warm welcome at the Singjamei Supermarket. For above 59 years category, Th. Ibemhal of Khongjom bagged the 1st position, while Saikhom Bideshini Devi of Khangabok bagged the 1st position for age group 45 to 58 and for age group 35 to 45, Kangabam Sonia of Thiyam Konjing Awang Leikai bagged the 1st position

Imphal, 11 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari today laid the foundation stone for the Barak and Makru bridges on National Highway no.37 Imphal-Jiribam road. The foundation laying ceremony was held at Jiribam higher secondary school playground. BJP Manipur in-charge Prahlad Singh Patel, president of BJP Manipur Pradesh, Ksh. Bhabananda and Chief Secretary of Manipur O. Nabakeshor attended the foundation laying function. The union minister said the Imphal-Jiribam road will be repaired within 3 years. He said the two bridges will be completed within 32 to 34 months. He also said other 22 projects will also be completed by 2018.

Imphal, 10 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : United Naga Council has called for Naga Peoples' Consultation meeting on Sunday at 11am at Senapati. The UNC's decision to hold Naga People's Consultation meeting came in the wake of the creation of 7 districts by the State Government. In a press statement UNC yesterday said the creation of  seven new districts is like rubbing salt into the wound. It said Nagas will not remain silent spectator. The statement also said Nagas will alone decide their fate and their land and will not allow any external forces to meddle with the Nagas' ancestral land'. It reiterated that the blockade is against the Government of Manipur and not against any community or group.

Imphal, 10 December 2016 : Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam categorically stated that the creation of 7 new districts was not done in haste and that discussions were on for years. He also said the decision was not made on the basis of community lines, but it was created for better and convenient administration. Gaikhangam was speaking on the sidelines of the 70th birthday celebration of the president of Indian National Congress Sonia Gandhi at the office of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee.

Imphal, 08 Dec 2016 ( Evening News ) : A sit-in -protest organised by Utlou Meira paibi was staged today as against the planting of IED bomb at the gate of BJP Manipur Pradesh Election Committee Chaiman Thaonaojam Chaoba who is also a former MP. During the protest,Utlou meira paibi secretary stated that in this long run, such incidence has not occur before, it may be related with the upcoming election. She further express deep concern as against the planting of bomb in a highly populated area, and to why the bomb has been planted by the concern organisation at the earliest.

Imphal, 06 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : Employees halted work at Manipur State Power Distribution Corporation Limited. Manipur Electricity Employees Union ceased work at Manipur State Power Distribution Corporation Limited demanding regularisation of muster roll and Work Charged employees working at the corporation. They ceased work at the offices of the corporation at Lamphel, Singjamei, Khuman Lampak, Moirang, Churachandpur and shut down the prepaid Counters. They threatened to continue the cease work at the corporation until the service of muster roll and Work Charged employees is regularised. General Secretary of Manipur Electricity Employees Union, Yumnam Ranapratap said they have been requesting the govt to regularise the service of Muster roll and Work Charged employees from 2014. He said the Government has regularised the service of Muster roll and Work Charged employees in some departments. Manipur State Power Distribution Corporation Limited has 38 muster roll and 305 work charged employees.

Imphal, 05 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh inaugurated the Food Processing Park at Nilakuthi in Imphal East today. Speaking at the occasion, Orkam Ibobi Singh said the Industrial sector in Manipur will not flourish without a private partnership. In the function organised by the Department of Commerce & Industries, the Chief Minister said the Food Processing Park will provide jobs to the educated youths of the state. Chief Minister said MSRTC and Spinning Mill at Loitang Khunou have been unable to take off despited huge investment from the state govt. Hence Private Participation is a must for the development of Industries in the state. Chief Minister further said the subsidy provided earlier by the Government of India under the Industries Policy due to the transportation issues in the North East, should continue. Without such policy it is impossible to establish any industry in the North East region. Okram Ibobi Singh said Handloom Sector has developed at about 40%, Food Processing at 25.8 % and Small Scale Industries Sector at 20% in the state. Speaking on the occasion, Commerce & Industries Minister, Govindas Konthoujam said the improvement of Industries means job creation for the unemployed. However, Economic Blockade which is more dangerous than the general strikes and bandhs have hampered the progress of an industry in the state.

Imphal, 04 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : Convenor of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Mutum Churamani has announced that there will be protests across the valley and the roads leading to all markets will be blocked on December 6, to press the demand for  inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe list. Speaking to media persons today at Manipur Press club, Churamani said, people have been carrying out agitations demanding inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list. He said the committee urged the chief minister to discuss the inclusion of the Meiteis in ST list within five days during a meeting on the 28th of Nov but the govt has done nothing till now. He also said the committee is closly watching the reaction of the political parties to the demand.

Imphal, 03 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : Governor Dr Najma Heptulla today conveyed her commitment to the cause of environment change and degradation of the environment. She was speaking at the inauguration of the three day Media workshop on climate change reporting at Hotel Imphal. The governor said the Himalayas protect the country’s environment and give the country various rivers. She maintained that if the Himalayas and the bio diversity are  destroyed there is no future for the next generations. Dr Heptulla also stressed the role of media in creating awareness among the people to protect the environment. Indian Himalayas Climate Adaptation Programme (IHCAP) of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and Centre for Media Studies (CMS) are organising a series of media engagement workshops in the northeast region with a view to promote accurate reporting of climate change, science and adaptation measures in the Indian Himalayas. The series includes media workshops in all the Himalayan states over the next three years. Under this media engagement programme, fellowships will also be awarded for journalists from the region to write field-based stories. Best stories written by state-level journalists will be awarded at the end of the programme. The overall objective of the programme is to trigger interest in climate change, its impacts on sustainability, livelihood issues and adaptation stories among journalists, editors and media houses in the region and thereby among the masses.

Imphal, 01 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : A remote-control IED bomb weighing around 2kg was planted at the gate of a school teacher at  Sagolband Nepra Manjor Leikai this morning. People of the locality discovered the bomb at the gate of A. Upananda son of late Angomjambam Shantikumar early this morning. A. Upananda teaches at Tiny Tots School. The locals reported the matter to  Imphal West Police. A team of Manipur Police Bomb Squad reached the spot around 6.30am. However they had to wait for a long time to defuse the bomb as the jammer vehicle of Manipur Police was accompanying the Chief Minister. No sooner the Jammer Vehicle of Bihar Regiment arrived at the scene around 12.15 pm than the one of Manipur police arrived. The Bomb Squad defused the bomb at 12.30pm and then safely exploded it at the Dumping Area at Lamphel at 1.30pm. No one has yet claimed responsibility for planting of the bomb. Imphal West Police has registered a Case. Locals expressed dissatisfaction at the delay in the arrival of the Jammer Vehicle. It may be mentioned that two explosions occurred in the same locality  two months ago.
