Imphal, 28 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : Unsettling and stress filled situation was about to arise at Malom Oil Depot. Even though there has been import of petroleum products to make adjustments with the shortages caused by the UNC’s economic blockade, unavailability of adequate oil for the passenger vehicles has led to the unrest at the depot. Speaking to the media,  All Manipur Petroleum Product Drivers Association,President Laishram Somen said keeping in view the difficulties faced by the drivers in the Imphal Jiribam road due to the economic blockade, and a meeting with the Chief Minister led the association to retreat its earlier stand. However, this morning at Malom Oil Depot, United Bus Owner Welfare Association stormed at the depot.  In an altercation, a representative of United Bus Owner Welfare Association tried to raise hands to Drivers Association’s members. He further said it is baseless to blame that  Drivers association is trying to support the UNC and has appealed to consider the effort and difficulties of the drivers and has requested to bring about an understanding between the drivers associations and the oil depot.

Imphal, 27 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : Congress MLA RK Anand today denied the news report that he is joining the BJP. Denying the news to media at his residence at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai, the Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA also spoke about the govt's next step regarding the economic blockade. He reiterated that the govt will never surrender to the demands of the UNC. RK Anand said if necessary the govt may declare UNC as an unlawful organisation. He alleged that the UNC and NPO act under the instruction of the NSCN -IM and their sole agenda is to disintegrate Manipur. He also maintained many Congress MLAs have been pressured to leave the party because of their stand on the integrity of Manipur. The MLA alleged that the BJP has an understanding with NSCN-IM, UNC, NPO and NPF. He questioned the claim by Assam minister to end the Economic Blockade immediately if the congress government resigns. He asked if the centre is inviting a June 18 like incident after imposition of the president's rule in Manipur. RK Anand said the centre cannot solve the problems facing the people due to economic blockade by airlifting some Petroleum Products. He also questioned why the Security Personnel did not respond to the attacks by NSCN IM. He asked why the Frame Work Agreement between the centre and the NSCN-IM has not been made public.

MLA Anand termed the news report on 11 Congress MLAs including him joining BJP as baseless and the news created confusion among the people. He said he never wanted to join the BJP. He also said if necessary Legal Action might be taken against the newspaper.

Imphal, 26 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : Despite the tight security measures taken by the police to prevent untoward incidents during the Republic Day celebrations, a bomb exploded this morning. However there was no report of casualty. The explosion occurred this morning around 8 near the western wall of Manipur College near Pishum bridge. The blast created a big hole of about 3 feet diameter on the fence wall. Police and IRB personnel who were on duty rushed at the spot and inspected the damage. Police suspect that the bomb was not a powerful IED. The explosion took place when people were trying to save a drunkard from the Nambul river about 10 feet from the spot. Fortunately the blast caused no injury. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast. It may be recalled that some underground outfits have called for boycott of the Republic Day celebrations.

Imphal, 26 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : The nation is celebrating its 68th Republic Day today. The day honours the date on which the Constitution came into force on this day in 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document. The country's military prowess and achievements in different fields, state-of-the-art defence platforms, and diverse culture was in full display at the Republic Day parade at Rajpath in the national capital. Crown Prince Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the three service chiefs paid tributes to soldiers at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate by laying wreaths in the morning. The parade commenced after unfurling of the National Flag, followed by a 21-gun salute. President Pranab Mukherjee awarded Ashok Chakra to Havaldar Hangpan Dada posthumously for selfless service to nation.  A contingent of UAE soldiers marched down the Rajpath. For the first time, a contingent of the National Security Guard, popularly known as the Black Cat Commandoes, also took part in the parade. The Indian Army’s missile firing capability, T-90 ‘Bhishma’ tank, Infantry Combat Vehicle BMP-2K, Mobile Autonomous Launcher of the BrahMos Missile System, Akash Weapon System, and Dhanush Gun System were the main draws this year. The Manipur float depicted 'Lai Haraoba' which is one of the oldest ritualistic theatres. Lakshadweep tableaux participated in the parade after 26 years, showcasing its potential as an unexplored destination. The grand finale was a spectacular flypast by the Indian Air Force. Awe inspiring formations such as Chakra, Hercules, and Trishul as well as the vertical Charlie manoeuvre won the hearts of the viewers. The ceremony culminated with the national anthem and release of balloons, which lit up the cloudy sky with merry colours.

Manipur today celebrated the 68th Republic Day amid the boycott call by various underground outfits. Celebrations of the day were held in several district headquarters. The main event was held at the Kangla with Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla as the chief guest. The governor inspected the guard of honour and unfurled the tricolour. She took the salute of the march past. Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi and his cabinet colleagues, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, officials of civil, central force and police attended the celebrations.

CID Technical SP, Mamata Wahengbam commanded the Parade. 64 Contingents from various schools and colleges, Ex- Servicemen, Civil Police, Central Forces, Para-Military, Fire Service, Home Guard and NCC, Bharat Scout, Disabled Persons, Manipur Police Sport Club Polo Team, Manipur police dog squad and 12 police and student band, 19 Cultural Troupes participated in the parade. 13 tableaux of various departments were also displayed during the celebration.

The governor presented President’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished service to Divisional officer Nabachandra Singh Laishram and Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service to Sub officer Ajit Singh Seram.

The day was also celebrated in Imphal east district. The celebration was held at the DC office complex Imphal East District in Porompat. DC Imphal East DC, Ningthoujam Geoffrey unfurled the tricolour at the event. He also took salute from the contingents of the march past commanded by SI Pradip Ningombam. Traditional dances also highlighted the march past.

Imphal, 24 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : Some suspected cadres of NSCN-lM fired some rounds from the hills towards an oil tanker coming from Jiribam towards Imphal. Sources from Awangkhul village under Noney police station in Tamenglong said the incident occurred this morning around 11.15 this morning. The tanker was hit by 4 bullets and the and one tyre on the driver's side was also damaged. However there was no report of casualty. The registration number of the tanker is MN 08T 0016.

Imphal, 24 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : League of Indigenous People Upliftment and HERICOUN organised a Convention on People and Election, Politicisation of Economic Blockade as part of the Election Campaign was held today Gandhi Memorial hall. Leaders of different political parties, representatives of civil society organisations and different communities and media persons participated in the convention. Speaking at the convention, HERICOUN President L. Ratankumar expressed grave concern at the state government and the centre blaming each other instead of trying to resolve the problem of indefinite economic blockade. He also alleged that both the governments are trying to  gain political mileage ahead of the assembly election in the state. He said the convention was held to listen to people's grievances due to the prevailing situation in the state and to discuss what steps can be taken to resolve the present impasse. Ratankumar said sincere and honest measures by the govts are needed to end the issue.

Imphal, 23 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : Government of India, as a step to ease the fuel crisis in the State, has authorised the use of the Indian Air Force's cargo plane to transport filled oil tankers to the State. In the first flight, two oil tankers carrying 20 and 12 kilo litres of diesel respectively have been brought into the State by the cargo plane.It brought two diesel-loaded tankers. Though the aircraft has in-built capacity to carry two fully loaded oil tankers, Sunday’s load was about 10 per cent less than the full capacity. It may be mentioned that the inter-ministerial meeting was held under the chairmanship of Union home minister Rajnath Singh and was also attended by petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan. There has been serious shortage of essential commodities, particularly petroleum products and medicines due to the on-going economic blockade imposed by UNC on the two lifelines of Manipur since November 1 last year.

Imphal, 23 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : A Team of Imphal West Commando apprehended an NSCN-IM cadre in Keithelmanbi to Namching village road around 3.30 pm yesterday. He has been identified as a 30 year old Shangthuanang Panmei, son of Miuhemang from Namkaolong Village, Tamenglong and currently residing at Tamenglong Model Khul. During investigation, Shangthuanang disclosed that he works under one Mr Hanresim and that he has been tipping off on the movement of security forces on NH-37. Two mobile phones have also been recovered from the cadre

Imphal, 22 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : A team of Imphal West police commando yesterday arrested 4 cadres of underground outfit NSCN-IM along with a huge quantity of explosives. They were arrested at Khongshang Bazar in Noney District. The cadres are identified as Y. Rakesh @ James @ Piktru, 28 years, son of Yambem Pishak of Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai, Themreingam Kashung @ Angamboy, 26 years, son of Ngarinme of Green Land in Ukhrul, Ramreishang, 22 years son of Luinam Hongchui of Kachai village, Ukhrul and Lankhuanlung, 18 years son of late Gaigunlung Kamei of Tamenglong ward number 3. The seized items included 58 Detonators, 26 metre long Cordex Wire and  a Tata truck bearing Nagaland registration number NL-01A - 9772. Sources said the articles were handed over to them by an NSCN-IM cadre identified as David. Sources also said the explosives were handed over to David by a Non Manipuri named Sanjoy who runs a shop in Tamenglong Bazar. Police sources suspect that the explosives will be handed over to another NSCN-IM Cadre identified as Mathew Khongshang to be used in attack on security personnel engaged in ROP on Imphal Jiribam national highway. It may be mentioned that suspected NSCN-IM cadres have been firing at goods trucks coming towards Imphal during UNC's indefinite economic blockade. One person died while several others wounded in the attack. Police has intensified security measures along the road after the attacks.

Imphal, 21 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : Police arrested a Sergeant Major of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) at Keisampat Keisam Leikai. A team of police led by Additional SP, (OPS) Imphal West, Dr. S. Ibomcha arrested the UNLF cadre at Keisampat Keisam Leikai yesterday afternoon around 3.30 pm. He is identified as Thiyam Nungshithoi Meitei @ Lokhon @Buno @ Saphaba, 34 years son of Thiyam Manihar of Iroisemba Mang Hiden Mayai Leikai in Imphal West. Sources said he joined KYKL in 2002 and then joined UNLF with 7 other cadres along with one M-16 and 4 AK Rifle in 2005. He was arrested by police in the early part of 2002.
