Imphal, 15 January 2017 : The first Professional Boxing Bout of Laishram Sarita Devi will be against Hungary's Zsofia Bedo. The first pro Boxing Bout between the two women boxers will be held at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium on the 29th of this month. Besides Sarita's bout there will be another 4 bouts. Som Bahadur Pun (India) against Manop Siththiem (Thailand), Pinki Jangra (India) versus Claudia Ferenczi (Slovakia), Vipin Kumar (India) versus Mubarak Seguya (Uganda), Siddhart Varma (India ) versus Jaganathan (India). The bouts will be telecast live on Impact Tv Mix Channel. Impact Medianet and Communication Pvt Limited is promoting the Indian Pro Boxing fight series with the support of Editors Guild Manipur organised under the Indian Boxing Council.
Imphal, 09 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : Imoinu Irat thouni thouram is being observed across the state today. Preparations are on for the traditional worship of Ema Imoinu (celebrated as Imoinu Iratpa day) across the State amongst the Meitei community. This day is an invocation to Goddess Imoinu, believed to be the Goddess of wealth, through offerings of seasonal fruits, vegetables and fish to the deity. The day is celebrated every year on the 12th day of Wakching (a month as per the Meetei lunar calendar). People will offer flowers and vegetables to the deity and pray for a peaceful co-existence on the occasion
Preparations are on in full swing at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal and Yumnam Leikai for Ema Emoinu celebrations. Eramdamgi enat yokhut lup is also organising the 8th Imoinu irat thouni thouram at Sedo Ground, Singjamei Sapam Leikai. People of Heirangoithong are also observing the occasion at Heirangoithong Bazar. As part of the celebrations in the morning, “Famang Thougal, Seitha Seihou” was conducted. People from all over the localities have offered seasonal fruits, vegetables and fish to the deity. The main event will be held in the evening by displaying lights on the roads and offering rice to the deity. Traditional dance and various other cultural programmes will also mark the celebrations.
Kangla Religious Committee celebrated this auspicious day of Ima Emoinu at the Kangla Palace today. Narration of the tale of Imoinu, offering flowers and vegetables to the deity, praying for a peaceful co-existence, etc were performed during the celebration today. On the occasion, members of Kangla Religious Committee hoped for peace and harmony in the state.
Poirei Eethiba Lup (PEEL) also observed the Ima Emoinu day at Yumjao Lairembi shanglen in Yumnam Leikai.
International Sanamahism Students Association (ISSA) has greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of Imoinu and Gaan Ngai.
Imphal, 09 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : A person has died and 15 injured in an accident involving a Bus and a Tata Truck. The accident occurred at around 11:30 this morning near Maibam Lotpa Ching under Nambol police station. Sources from the spot said, the bus bearing registration number MN02A-2101 coming from Churachandpur and Tata Truck bearing registration number MN02A-5525 coming from Imphal collided about 200 metres from Maibam Lotpa Ching. The deceased has been identified as 83 year old RK Chandrakumar of Nachou Bazaar. The injured are currently being treated at RIMS. Of the injured, 3 are said to be in serious conditions. It is yet to be ascertained if the accident was due to a brake fail or a steering problem. Nambol police station has registered a case
Imphal, 07 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : RIMS Hospital Victims Memorial Trust today organised a memorial service in memory of the 9 innocent people who died in an indiscriminate firing by CRPF personnel 21 years ago. CRPF jawans fired at people on the RIMS campus on January 7, 1995. Family members of the victims and Auto Rickshaw Drivers offered floral tributes at the memorial. Speaking on the occasion, member of the trust, Moirangthem Subashchandra said people of Manipur are against the torture and killings by the Indian armed forces under the garb of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958. He said the day is observed to prevent such incidents in the future. It may be mentioned that in 1995, a team of CRPF stationed on RIMS campus lined up 9 people including an MBBS student from Arunachal Pradesh and fired at them in retaliation for an armed attack on CRPF jawans by unknown armed men.
Imphal, 07 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : President of Manipur Peoples Party, N. Sovakiran has been released from the police custody. He was arrested on the 4th of this month in election related violence at Ukhongsang. Party workers gave him a warm reception at the MPP office. Addressing media, Sovakiran said Th. Radheshyam had violated Model Code of Conduct and organised a feast at Ukhongsang. He said when violence broke out there, he tried to contain the situation and his escorts opened a couple of blank fires to control the crowd. Sovakiran claimed that he was arrested by police for trying to follow Model Code of Conduct. He condemned the confining of the president of a political party in police custody for 2 nights without reasons. He said major violence including burning down of houses could have occurred had he not intervened on time. Sovakiran alleged that it was K. Radheshyam who was at fault. He accused that police took the wrong person in their custody and that it was Th. Radheshyam who should have been arrested. Sovakiran alleged that the BJP candidate, Th. Radheshyam was involved in a recruitment case.
Imphal, 05 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : Police today conducted a drive against drug abusers and immoral activities at Kabow Leikai and arrested 10 persons including two women. A team of police personnel under the supervision of Additional SP Operation, Imphal West, Dr. Sarangthem Ibomcha launched the drive in the locality near Manipur Pubic Service Commission. During the drive which began from 9.30 am police arrested 10 persons including two women. Those arrested included drug abusers and persons who indulged in immoral activities. The arrested persons were taken to Imphal police station.
Imphal, 05 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : Former minister, BJP leader and renowned historian Prof Gangmumei Kamei passed away at his residence at Majorkhul this morning at 8.20. He was 76. Chief minister Okram Ibobi visited his place to offer his respect to the departed and condolences to the bereaved family. A number of distinguished personalities including former minister RV Minthing and teachers of Manipur University and representatives of several civil society organisations offered their last respect to Prof Gangmumei Kamei. Prof Kamei began his teaching career as a school teacher. He taught at Imphal college, DM college, JNU centre for post graduate studies and retired as professor of history from Manipur university in 2001. He was also associated with Nagaland university, Rajiv Gandhi university, Arunachal Pradesh, NEHU Shillong. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
Imphal, 03 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : A gas ball inflator Carbide Cylinder has exploded today at around 11am near kashturi bridge of nagamapal. The gas ball seller was injured and hospitalised to RIMS. He has been identified as K. Amarjit son of K. Jiban from Patsoi Part 2.
