Imphal, 14 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : Locals today seized 13 kg of herion number 4 from two women in Sekmaijin Thongam under Mayang Imphal police station. Women of the area and secretary of the local club caught the two women along with the drug. They are identified as Tinkholam Baite and Choichang from Churachandpur. Sources said the two women were seen together with two Muslim men this morning around 9 behind Balika Junior High School in Sekmaijin Thongam. After the two persons left, the club members saw the two women putting some packets into their bags. They became suspicious and locals approached them and checked their bags. The locals found 13 packets of heroin number 4 in their bags. They set the drug on fire and handed over the two women to Mayang Imphal police station.
Imphal, 14 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : Convener of BJP Manipur Pradesh State Election Management Committee, Thounaojam Chaoba asserted that a balanced development of the hills and valley will bring peace in Manipur. Speaking at the flag hoisting of BJP candidate in Nungba, Vice President of BJP Manipur Pradesh, Adim Pamei at Khoupam Valley yesterday the BJP leader said blockade on National highways should be prevented first in the valley if the blockades on national highways in the hills are to be checked. Chaoba accused the state govt of misappropriating central funds for the development of hills in the state. He reiterated that if the BJP wins the upcoming assembly elections Manipur will be free from bandh, blockade and corruption. It may be mentioned that Adim Pamei is pitted against deputy chief minister Gaikhangam.
Imphal, 13 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : Union Minister, Prakash Javadekar has launched 20 vehicles with the slogan “Vote for Change,Vote for BJP” inscribed on it, to be used in the upcoming 11th Manipur Assembly Election. 5 vehicles have been put on wheels in the presence of media persons at BJP office in Natyapat Chuthek today.The vehicles have Audio -Visual Record Load Speaker for publicity purpose. The audio- visual will highlight the plight of the people in the 15 yrs old congress rule in the state. The vehicles will be on wheels in the interior parts of the state and address the various problems and issues in the state.Among the video records, one is shows the discrepancies in the expenditure utilised in the construction of Bishnupur Mini-Secretariat by the ruling Congress government. It also shows the various incomplete Multipurpose Dam and Projects, Fake encounter cases suppressed by the ruling government , and the improper disposal of the facilities provided under Food Security Act of India to the people of Manipur. The Video record highlights the various indiscrepancies in the management of public expenditure by the ruling Congress government since the past 15 yrs. Speaking on the occasion Union Minister, Prakash Javadekar said Bharatiya Janata Party has taken up the steps with authorisation from the right officials for bringing about change and development and harmony for the people of Manipur.
Imphal, 12 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : In a new development, National People's Party, NPP candidate Ngangbam Robert has withdrawn from contest in Singjamei constituency in the 11th state assembly elections. A BJP aspiring candidate, Ngangbam Robert left the BJP after he was denied the BJP ticket and joined the NPP. The NPP yesterday announced his name as the party's candidate in Singjamei constituency. Robert announced his decision to withdraw from the contest today at a meeting with his supporters at his residence at Chingamathak. Some of his supporters even cried as he announced his decision not to contest the assembly election. He said he wanted to contest the election on BJP ticket but he was denied the ticket by the party. He said he resigned from BJP and joined NPP as per wishes of his supporters. Robert said before he took the decision he discussed the matter with his election committee and workers in detail. He said he will contest the next assembly election either as the candidate of a political party or an independent candidate. Robert also stated that he will continue to serve the people even though he does not contest the election.
Imphal, 11 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : Veteran politician and former congress president and minister Phungzathang Tonsing from Churachandpur constituency who resigned from the Congress party yesterday has joined the National People's Party. Phungzathang Tonsing who had been elected from Churachandpur on Congress ticket for several terms today said he joined the National People’s Party to bring change in Manipur. He made the statement at the political conference of NPP candidate in 12 Keishamthong, former education minister, Langpoklakpam Jayantakumar at Pishum Ningom Leirak YLL Ground. He said he joined the NPP considering the present situation in Churachandpur and wishes of the people. The former Congress minister maintained that the people now want an alternative government to Congress and BJP. NPP National President Conrad K Sangma, National General Secretary Vivek Raj Wangkhem and several party leaders attended the conference.
Imphal, 11 February 2017 : Earlier on his arrival at the Imphal International airport BJP Manipur gi In-charge and Lok Sabha MP Prahlad Singh Patel told media persons that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to come to Manipur to attend a Political Rally in the last week of this month. The BJP leader arrived in Imphal yesterday to campaign for the BJP as electioneering gains momentum in the state.
Imphal, 10 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : Manipur also observed the national Deworming Day. State Health Society, Manipur held the day at the Angawadi Centre at Shamushang. Principal secretary of social welfare, JC Ramthanga, commissioner Education-S, directors of Social Welfare and Family Welfare Services and angawadi workers and helpers attended the event. JC Ramthanga inaugurated the event by administering deworming tablet to a child. Parents and guardians from the area also brought their minor children to administer deworming tablet. Deworming tablets were also administered to minor students of government primary and upper primary schools on the day.
In one of the country's largest single-day public health initiatives, an estimated 34 crore children will be administered de-worming tablets today to reduce worm infestation that can stifle physical and intellectual growth. The Health Ministry for the first time will also cover private schools and has asked state governments to rope them in, while it has set up 210 monitoring centres across the country to tackle adverse reactions of the tablet like stomach ache and vomiting. India has the highest burden of worm infections in the world, with the World Health Organisation estimating in 2014 that over 22 crore Indian children aged between 1 and 14 years are at risk.
Imphal, 09 February 2017 : Violence erupted in RIMS following the death of a student. The deceased is identified as Thounaojam Shyamsundar son of Th. Shantikumar of Keibi Kumuda Leikai in Imphal East. Sister of the deceased who was a student of Class ten said he was admitted to Raj Medicity on the 21st of last month. She also said he was later admitted to RIMS as they had financial problem. The sister alleged that the doctor who treated him refused to see him when his condition deteriorated today. She also alleged that two junior doctors came after one hour and checked him. The family has refused to accept the body.
