Imphal, 16 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : Manipur State Legal Services and Traffic Control Office, Imphal West jointly organised one day legal awareness programme on “Traffic Awareness For All’ at Khwairamband Bazaar today. Women vendors and members of Imphal west District legal Services Authority took part in the programme. Members of the Imphal west district legal services authority explained how to follow the traffic rules in a crowded place like Khwairamband Bazaar. Assistant Public Prosecutor, Ajitkumar Mutum stressed the need to follow the Motor vehicle Act and Manipur Rules. He also spoke about the inconveniences faced by the traffic police.
Imphal, 15 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : In what may be described as the first sign of a crack in the BJP-led Manipur government, Health Minister L. Jayentakumar tendered his resignation yesterday. The NPP leader submitted his resignation letter to Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren. In his resignation letter, Jayentakumar said he was not consulted before the suspension of the health director, Dr O. Ibomcha. Dr Ibomcha was suspended recently. Putting that down as the reason for his resignation, Jayentakumar said the manner in which the health director was suspended was an interference in his work as a minister. The BJP is leading a coalition government in Manipur after finishing second in this year's Assembly elections. Congress won 28 of Manipur's 60 Assembly seats. The BJP managed to put together a majority with the support of four MLAs each of National People's Party, NPP, Naga People's Front, one from Trinamool Congress, one Independent and one Congress MLA who defected to the BJP. With the majority, the BJP was able to install the N Biren Singh-led government, which completes one month in office today. This is the first BJP-led government in Manipur. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh is in Odisha to participate in the BJP's National Executive.
Imphal, 14 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : Chief minister Nongthombam Biren launched two Websites designed to end corruption and to keep track of government activities, today in presence of the Cabinet Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, Chief Secretary and officials of IT department at the Chief Minister Secretariat. The websites or applications are called Anti Corruption Cell and Digital Application for Review by Public And Nation also known as DARPAN. The website for anti corruption cell is www.accmanipur.in and the website for monitoring cell is www.ppmonitor.in. With the launch of these websites, the chief minister announced the beginning of Digital Manipur from today. Speaking at the event N.Biren said these websites will be a big boost in ensuring that developmental projects are taken up with transparency and accountability. DARPAN will upload the details of the projects taken up right from the initial stage till the funds are sanctioned, timely work progress and even photos of G.P.S location of the work sites. It will also bring an end to the earlier corrupted culture of non completion of developmental projects after funds are sanctioned. The Chief Minister also said the recently launched Anti Corruption Cell mobile number has received many complaints and that the websites launched today will assist in putting an end to corruption. He further said cases have been already registered for the genuine complaints and the concerned departments have been instructed to reply. Biren added that MAHUD and Power departments have already installed CCTV cameras in their offices.
Imphal, 13 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : Chief minister Nongthombam Biren today held unemployment responsible for restless among the youth in Manipur. Inaugurating Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Training Centre opened by NGI Skill India under National Skill Development Corporation at Thangmeiband this morning the Chief Minister said as a first step to make sure that the employees of the state govt send their children to govt schools, the govt will make deduction from their salaries if they do not send their children to govt schools. He also said the govt is considering to discontinue their service if they do not oblige the govt order. Biren asserted that the Government alone provide employment to every household and it is necessary to create jobs for the youth by the govt in collaboration with private skill development agencies. He said more than 7 lakh youth are unemployed in the state and the govt aims at providing skills to more than 37 thousand youth between 2017 and 2020. The newly opened PMKVY, Training Centre will be opened at Suzuki Motors on Thangmeiband DM College road. Education Minister, Th. Radheshyam, PMKVY National Co-ordinator, Hemanta Larma, President of Manipur Medical Council, Professor Sinam Rajendra were among those present at the event.
Education, Labour and Employment Minister, Th. Radheshyam stressed the need to understand the demands of the people first. He also emphasised that the skills of the youth should be improved to encourage them start entrepreneurship.
Imphal, 11 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister, Nongthombam Biren was accorded a warm welcome by the people of Ukhrul today. People from all age groups had gathered at the Tangkhul Nagalong ground to welcome the chief minister since early morning. Locals of Litan, Ramvai, etc also welcomed the chief minister. Chief Minister, Biren also inaugurated a new tourist spot at Hundung as part of the visit. Unlike the last visit by the previous Govt where "Welcome to South Nagaland" was written on the banner, "Welcome Chief Minister of Manipur, Nongthombam Biren" was on the banner this time. Speaking at his reception in Tangkhul Nagalong ground, the chief minister said 201 Crore Rupees has already been sanctioned for the development of Ukhrul. He said an additional amount of 10 Crore Rupees has also been sanctioned to build the Tangkhul Ima Keithel. Biren further said stern actions will be taken against those officials not willing to go to the hills. He expressed the desire to hold the siroy lilly festival at an international level and also to revive the Siroi Lilly cup football tournament. Biren said the chiefs of th Hills and CSO's can meet him on 10th of every month. Tangkhul Nagalong (TNL) made 3 demands to the chief minister, first to recognise the legitimate rights of the Nagas and bring about a solution, second to roll back the new districts created by the previous Govt and third to remove the security forces deployed on the national highway. Chariman of ADC, Ukhrul, Dr. Yangsolung appealed the chief minister to tar the Ukhrul Road and to improve banking facilities and education. Ministers Biswajit, Shyamkumar, parliamentary secretaries and top officials of both civil and police also attended the function.
Imphal, 11 April 2017 (Evening News ) : State remembers late Maharaja Narasingh on his 167th death anniversary. Manipur State Archaeology, Department of Art & Culture observed the ocassion at Kangla today. Rich tributes were paid at the Grave of the late Mahajara. Manipur Rifles contingent honoured the Maharaja with a gun salute. MLA P. Saratchandra and others offered tarpon at the Nungjeng pond in Kangla and prayed for the Maharaja Narasingh’s soul to rest in peace. Sankritan was also performed infront of the Uttra shanglen. Speaking on the occasion, P. Saratchandra reminded the people of Maharaja Narasingh’s contribution in trying to have a smooth and peaceful administration in the state and in the integration of Manipur
Imphal, 10 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : Convenor of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Arjun Telheiba has stated that there will be a meeting between the representatives of both the hill and valley to put an end to the misunderstanding created between the two communities by the ILP issue. Addressing media persons at their office in Kwakeithel Takhel Leikai, Arjun Telheiba further said people both in the hills and the valley have lost their lives by the ILP issue. He said a misunderstanding has been created by the issue and feared that the ILP issue will go off track. The JCILPS convenor assured to take steps towards resolving the misunderstanding at the earliest. On the other hand he also appealed the new Government to bring about a solution at the earliest. Arjun Telheiba also said the JCILPS will keep a close watch over the activities of Jiribam MLA, Assab Uddin, who is part of the Govt despite a ban on non locals contesting elections unless ILP bill is passed in the state. He said although Assab Uddin is not an indigenous citizen, he has been living in the state before the base year, 1951 and is a Constitutional citizen, thereby being protected by the law, hence no actions can be taken against him.
Imphal, 10 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : 5 day Public hearing on Acquisition of Land for the construction of Kangchup Tamenglong road for up gradation of roads from Uripok Kangchup till Tamenglong by PWD with funds from Asian Development Bank began today. State Social Impact Assesment Unit, Directorate of Environment organised the first public hearing of the villages of 95 Taothong and 105 Lamdeng Khunou at Lamdeng Community Hall today. The next four hearings will be held at Cultural Hall Phayeng, Lairenkabi Dramatic Hall, Heibongpokpi Lai Haraopham Hall and Samusang Community Hall. Retired, DSO Revenue Md Abdul Salam, president of Lamsang Pana Sanalup, RK Ranendrajit, Taothong Nagar Panchayat member of Ward No 9, Chingthang Khomba and the affected villagers attended the hearing. Deputy director, Directorate of Environment, T Brajakumar said the state government has given them the task to file a detailed report on how far the land acquisition will affect the land owners and the environment. He said they were able to meet 80 percent of the land owners and that they welcomed the acquisition, however they appealed for transparency while providing compensation.
