Imphal, 25 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Manipur Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla today condemned the attack on Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh’s entourage in Ukhrul yesterday morning. Terming the incident sad as well as bad, Governor Heptulla appealed to the youths to join hands with the govt for development of the state. It may be recalled that several rounds of gunshots were fired towards the helipad as soon as the helicopter carrying Chief Minister was about to take off. During the visit, Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Preshow Shimray, Home Minister Gaikhangam, Health Minister D Korungthang and Commerce and Industries Minister K Govindas.
Governor Dr Najma Heptulla today launched the National campaign on medicinal plants at the hall of Indian Medical Association, Lamphel. The campaign was organised by Manipur state Medicinal Plants Board, Directorate of Ayush under the sponsorship of Ministry Of Ayush, National Plants Board (NMPB). The governor also inaugurated one day state level buyers-sellers meet on medical plants. In her inaugural address, Dr Najma Heptulla said medicinal plants have been identified and used throughout human history. She maintained that medicinal plant sector has got immense potential along with sustainable agriculture which can provide alternative sources of income to farmers. The governor also appealed to all not to use artificial flowers in decoration. She said cultivation and use of natural flowers and plants should be encouraged to boost plant sector.
Imphal, 25 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Deputy chief minister Gaikhangam has categorically stated that the Centre must not remained silent when NSCN-IM has broken the ceasefire ground rule by ambushing CM in Ukhrul yesterday. Speaking as Chief Guest at the golden jubilee celebration of Samurou Keithel today Gaikhangam said till now no definite response has came from the Central Govt. He however expressed confidence that the Centre will take necessary action against the outfit. The deputy chief minister pointed the finger of suspicion at Tangkhul Naga Long for the incident as they have called for boycott of the chief minister's visit. He said it would be better for TNL to apologise to the public instead of making fabricated statement on the incident. Refuting the allegations of TNL, he said the Govt will never ask to fire at the police personnels and there is no lathode bomb in the police arsenal. He also said the govt does not take the incident lightly and will take necessary action. It may be recalled that NSCN(IM) has denied involvement in the ambush while UNC has accused the state govt of stage managing the incident.
Imphal, 24 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : The classes at Manipur University resumed today amid protest by Schedule Tribe students demanding stopping of admission procedure at the University. 3 protesting students were injured in police action while 3 others were detained. The admission process began following a meeting of VC in charge, Deans and Head of Depts of the University on Oct 22. Large number of Tribal students led by tribal student organisation leaders opposed the admission procedure at the University gate today. Large number of police personnel deployed at the University used smoke bombs to control the crowd. Meanwhile, classes 2 semester upto 6 semester classes at various depts resumed from today.
Imphal, 24 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh arrived today in Ukhrul district amidst tense situation. The chopper carrying Chief minister and other officials arrived at Pakshi Ground in Hungpung at 9:30 am. Due to public curfew announced by Tangkhul Naga Long, volunteers of Tangkhul Naga Long blocked roads and burnt tyres protesting CM’s visit. Due to tense situation in the area Chief Minister and his team were detained at the helipad for an hour. After one hour, Chief Minister took off for Chingai at around 10:30 am. Meanwhile, just before the chopper took several rounds of bullets were fired towards the direction of the helipad which injured one 6 Manipur Rifles jawan. MR Jawan William Tara sustained injuries at his left abdomen and right arm. The gunfight between security personnel and suspected underground cadres lasted around 15 minutes. Two vehicles, one gypsy and one sumo was also completely burnt down by bandh supporters. It is also learnt Chief Minister returned back to Imphal without landing at Chingai. Meanwhile all the three inauguration programmes, 33/11 power sub-station at Khunjao, 32/11 power sub station at Hungdung and SDO/BDO OFFICE scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Minister has been cancelled. The attack was allegedly carried out by suspected NSCN-IM armed men.
Early this morning, a lethode bomb blast occurred amidst tight security at newly constructed District Hospital in Hungpung at Ukhrul district at around 12:30 am. The district hospital was scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Minister today. During the blast an IRB personnel identified as T. Milan of 4th IRB was injured. The blast damaged floor and roof of reception dias. It may be mentioned that Tangkhul Naga Long had earlier announced public curfew. There is tight security in the district as hundreds of Tangkhul Naga Long volunteers are seen on the road.
Imphal, 23 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : A young girl was found dead under suspicious circumstances near Nongren Mamang Chingdum Macha under Lamlai Police station in Imphal east district. The body is yet to be identified. The girl appeared to be around 20. It is suspected that she was killed and left in the area last night. Morning walkers discovered the body early this morning. She was about 4 feet 8 inches tall and fair and wore a black top and a blue striped pant. Sources said the miscreants allegedly hit her in the heat by a blunt object. Locals could not identify her. Police has deposited the body at JNIMS Morgue.
Imphal, 22 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : People today blocked the Tinseed Road protesting non repair of the road. Tinseed Road Joint Action Committee Takhel GP, formed against the non repairing of Tinseed Road, held the protest. Residents of the area came out from early morning and blocked the road in Takhel GP area by placing logs and bamboos. The JAC had earlier submitted a memorandum to Works Minister Kshetrimayum Biren who represents Lamlai on the 13th of October urging him to repair the road. The JAC decided to block the road after it got no response from the minister. Lamlai Mandal BJP member and BJP State Executive member Kh. Ibomcha said BJP Lamlai mandal has been asking the authorities concerned to repair the road since 2015. He assured the people that if the Govt fails to repair the road, he will repair it. The JAC however relaxed the blockade in the afternoon in view of the Ningol-Chakouba festival.
Imphal, 22 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : At least 3 students of Biramangol College including candidates have been admitted to JNIMS after they were injured in election related violence. The three students of Biramangol College, Sawombung were allegedly assaulted by volunteers of Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) yesterday afternoon at Keishampat. The injured include two students who are contesting the college election of Biramangol College, Depak Leitanthem and Wahengbam Rakesh of Lamlai Huidrom and proposer Khagokpam Bidyajit of Paorabi Mayai Leikai. They sustained injuries in nose, wrist, neck, arm, shoulder, thigh and back. Khagokpam Bidyajit who is admitted at JNIMS said he along with Deepak and Rakesh went to meet some persons in connection with the college election at Waiton. He said they were halted by about 20 persons including former Games and Sports secretary of the college England and brought to CAS Coaching Institute near DESAM office. They were taken to the top floor of CAS Coaching Institute and assaulted by DESAM members. He said they were later released at Porompat. A case has been registered at Lamlai Police station.
Imphal, 21 October 2016 : Taking a dig at the Nagaland chief minister Chief minister Okram Ibobi today said Manipur was an independent nation before it became a part of India. He said Nagaland was created by carving out a portion of Assam. Chief minister Ibobi has taken serious objections to the manner in which the Nagaland chief minister spoke about the unification of naga inhabited areas. He said the Nagaland chief minister has not understood the history of Manipur and warned him that his dream will never materialise. Speaking at the inauguration of the new building of MGNREGA and State Institute of Rural Development at DC Complex Porompat, Ibobi said chief minister TR Zeliang must mind his own business. He also maintained that his govt in Nagaland is under the mercy of some organisations. Ibobi alleged that instead of focussing on the development of his own state State TR Zeliang is trying to disintegrate Manipur. Ibobi said Zeliang must know that Nagaland was carved out of Assam during Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's time and must not expect an inch of Manipur's land.
