Imphal, 06 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : A 5-day workshop on ‘Techniques of Paper Setting and Evaluation’ began today at GP Women’s College. The workshop is organised by Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur in collaboration with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi. Education Minister Dr Kh. Ratankumar also attended the inaugural function. In the technical session, resource persons from NCERT spoke on ‘National Curriculum Framework - Student Assessment’, ‘Student Assessment in Public Examination’, ‘Forms of Question and Development of Quality Question’. The first day of the Workshop was attended by teachers of both government and private Higher Secondary Schools in Manipur.
Imphal, 06 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Manipuri Archer Paonam Lily Chanu will take part in the World Cup Archery Individual Compound Final to be held in Denmark. Lily is the first Indian archer to participate in this event. Lily started her career in Archery as an Indian Round Archer in the year 2003 and moved on to a Compound Division Archer in the year 2007. She bagged Bronze at the Compound Team Event held at Shanghai in 2012 and a Gold in the Compound Mixed Event at Chinese Taipei in 2013. She also bagged Bronze in the 3rd Archery World Cup Championship Team Event in 2014 and set a new Asian Record at the Grand Prix Archery Championship in Bangkok the same year. Lily who recently took part in the 17-Asian Games, is all set to for a major face off with 8 top archers from different countries in the event that would be held in Denmark from September 24 and 25.
Imphal, 05 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today asked for suggestions from all stakeholders of the society to improve Education system in Manipur on occasion of Teacher’s Day. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh was speaking at the Teachers’s Day celebration held at state level at Manipur Film Development Co-operation- MFDC, Palace Compound. The function was jointly organised by State Education Department, Higher and Technical Education, Adult Education, State Council for Educational Research & Training and Directorate of Language Planning & Implementation. 10 Teachers were honoured with State Teachers Award, 2016. Appointment letters were handed over to 31 Aided School Graduate Teachers, 98 Primary Teachers, 4 LDC and 1 Chaukidar at the function. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh further added that the state govt is trying to improve human resource and produce good students. Chief Minister raised concern over the declining number of students in the Govt schools. He said even though we have good teachers yet the school are unable to attract the students at the govt schools. Chief Minister also appealed the teachers to be more attentive and to be more sincere towards their work to improve education system in the state.
Attending the function, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said teachers play a major role in shaping of a good society. He also appreciated teachers who are selflessly imparting good education to the students of the state. Deputy Chief Minister appealed to the teachers to give lessons to the students not only from the books but also share their wisdom and knowledge.
Education Minister Dr. Kh. Ratankumar said the govt has taken up steps to improve education system in the state. Minister Ratankumar said primary and upper primary teachers have been appointed under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, SSA. 11 Residential Schools for Girls have been constructed under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, RMSA while 9 residential schools are being constructed at 9 districts. Many Junior Schools have been upgraded to High Schools and the process of streamlining of teachers have began. Education Minister also informed that under RMSA residential staff quarters are being constructed and trained teachers have been selected on merit basis.
Teachers' Day is being celebrated throughout the country today. Various programmes in schools and colleges throughout the country are being organised in the honour of teachers who shape the lives of students and show them the path of success. The day is celebrated on the birthday of educationist and former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan since 1962. President and Prime Minister have greeted the teachers on the day. In his message, Pranab Mukherjee said, teachers’ day is an occasion to recognise the dedicated services of the teachers, who are engaged in building and strengthening the intellectual and ethical foundations of the children. President said, the teachers need to imbibe technology and new methodologies to create modern and effective approaches to teaching and learning. In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, the country salutes the dedication and commitment of all teachers, whose role in nation building is paramount.
Imphal, 05 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : A large number of BJP workers tried to storm the ongoing Assembly Session in the morning defying the curfew. The BJP workers were stopped by the security personnel at Khoyathong Traffic point. Police had a hard time in controlling the situation. Tear gas shells were used to disperse the crowd. BJP members were protesting over the state government ’s cancellation of DPC for 2013 constable candidates.
All the roads leading to the Manipur Legislative Assembly were blocked today by authorities using barb wires amidst curfew announced within 1 km radius of the assembly complex. Large number of police deployed at various locations diverted all the vehicles not letting them pass through the assembly road. It may be mentioned that Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Ningthoujam Geoffrey last night issued an order for imposition of Sub-Section 2 of Section 144 of CRPC within the 1-km radius of the Assembly complex starting from last midnight till 5 this evening. The curfew has been imposed to avoid any untoward incident on the last day of the Monsoon Session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

On the other hand, JCILPS Students Wing took out agitation at Muji Khun Leirak, Thangmeiband. Police fired mock bombs and tear gas shells when the agitating students tried to march towards Assembly. The tussle continued after 10 minutes and there was heavy clash between the protesters and police personnels.
Imphal, 04 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Herbal Life Centre Club of Imphal Area today observed National Nutrition Week at Dharmalaya Social Welfare Centre, Brahmapur Nahabam. Earlier, participants at the event took out a rally under the banner ‘Fun Run’ from Singjamei Market to Brahmapur Nahabam. Herbal Life Associate Member, Salam Bhimo said nutritious food and exercise are required to prevent ourselves from diseases in today’s sedentary lifestyle.
Imphal, 04 September 2016 : Chief Secretary Oinam Nabakishore today stated that State Cabinet has approved setting up of separate Information and Technology directorate. Speaking at a press meet held at the Conference Hall of Old Secretariat, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore said necessary processes for the appointment of Director, Additional Director and Deputy Director of the directorate will begin soon. Four Mobile Applications namely Loucha Pathap, GPF Manipur, Computerise Personal Information System and SMS Service downloadable from Android and Apple Application Store are now available to ease the burden of Govt employees and general public. O Nabakishore added that anyone can check under whose name a particular land or plot is registered with the help of Loucha Pathap application. Govt employees and pensioners can now use these mobile application for GPF Account Statement, Employee and Service History and Pension Statement. Chief Secretary appealed to all the pensioners to register their mobile number with the Treasury Department and avail the benefits. O Nabakishore also maintained that people are now taking the advantages of the e-District launched by the Chief Minister. E-Office has also started in some govt departments to decrease the use of paper in the office cut the expenditure. Chief Secretary O Nabakishore further added that the govt is working on producing a new program called E-Cabinet to prepare cabinet memoranda.
Imphal, 03 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : A large number of people thronged to Singjamei Kshetri Leikai to pay homage to Sapam Robinhood who died during the ILPS stir last year to mark his first death anniversary. The event was organised by Lamjing Meira Khudang Inba Lup. Many people paid floral tributes to Robinhood and prayed for his soul to rest in peace and also prayed for JCILPS former convenor Khomdram Ratan who’s continuing his fight for ILPs in the Jail. It may be worth recalling that Sapam Robinhood died on the 8th of July 2015 during an agitation demanding the implementation of ILPS in the state and his last rites was performed on the 3rd of Sept last year, at Awa Ching.
Imphal, 03 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Information Centre Hill Area, Manipur, ICHAM today demanded that the long pending border issues of Manipur and Myanmar be resolved at the meeting between the officials of Survey General of India and Myanmar delegations to be held at Dehradun from September 5 to 7. Speaking to media at its office at Khurai Lamlong, ICHAM President Nongthongbam Rajendro appealed to send a representative of the state govt in the 2 day meet and produce the report submitted by ICHAM to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and All Political Party leader along with a CD in the meeting. ICHAM has the evidence of Border Pillar Number 78, 81, 82, 84, 5, 6 and 7 being erected 2 to 3 km inside the Manipur territory. Rajendro also appealed to resolve the outstanding controversies along the international border during the meeting.
