Imphal, 05 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today asked for suggestions from all stakeholders of the society to improve Education system in Manipur on occasion of Teacher’s Day. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh was speaking at the Teachers’s Day celebration held at state level at Manipur Film Development Co-operation- MFDC, Palace Compound. The function was jointly organised by State Education Department, Higher and Technical Education, Adult Education, State Council for Educational Research & Training and Directorate of Language Planning & Implementation. 10 Teachers were honoured with State Teachers Award, 2016. Appointment letters were handed over to 31 Aided School Graduate Teachers, 98 Primary Teachers, 4 LDC and 1 Chaukidar at the function. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh further added that the state govt is trying to improve human resource and produce good students. Chief Minister raised concern over the declining number of students in the Govt schools. He said even though we have good teachers yet the school are unable to attract the students at the govt schools. Chief Minister also appealed the teachers to be more attentive and to be more sincere towards their work to improve education system in the state.
Attending the function, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said teachers play a major role in shaping of a good society. He also appreciated teachers who are selflessly imparting good education to the students of the state. Deputy Chief Minister appealed to the teachers to give lessons to the students not only from the books but also share their wisdom and knowledge.
Education Minister Dr. Kh. Ratankumar said the govt has taken up steps to improve education system in the state. Minister Ratankumar said primary and upper primary teachers have been appointed under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, SSA. 11 Residential Schools for Girls have been constructed under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, RMSA while 9 residential schools are being constructed at 9 districts. Many Junior Schools have been upgraded to High Schools and the process of streamlining of teachers have began. Education Minister also informed that under RMSA residential staff quarters are being constructed and trained teachers have been selected on merit basis.
Teachers' Day is being celebrated throughout the country today. Various programmes in schools and colleges throughout the country are being organised in the honour of teachers who shape the lives of students and show them the path of success. The day is celebrated on the birthday of educationist and former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan since 1962. President and Prime Minister have greeted the teachers on the day. In his message, Pranab Mukherjee said, teachers’ day is an occasion to recognise the dedicated services of the teachers, who are engaged in building and strengthening the intellectual and ethical foundations of the children. President said, the teachers need to imbibe technology and new methodologies to create modern and effective approaches to teaching and learning. In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, the country salutes the dedication and commitment of all teachers, whose role in nation building is paramount.
