Imphal, 15 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : The 65th foundation day of All Manipur Bar Association was celebrated today at Uripok Cheirap court with Governor Dr Najma Heptullah as the chief guest. Set up in 1951 the association has 2000 members including 300 women advocates. Two minute silence and floral tributes were paid to the departed members of the association. Senior members of AMBA were felicitated at the event. Law and Legislative Affairs Minister I Hemochandra, Members of AMBA and Bar council attended the celebration. Speaking on the occasion, Governor Dr Najma Heptullah said  “justice at your doorstep” is a priority area for both central and state govts. She said members of the Bar have to remain ever vigilant to prevent any any miscarriage of justice. Dr Heptullah also urged them to give due importance to free legal service to the people and deliver justice in a truthful and efficient manner.

In his speech, Law and Legislative Affairs Minister I Hemochandra said members of Legal fraternity need to unite together to remove the bottlenecks faced in justice delivery system.

Imphal, 15 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Bharatiya Janata Party National President Amit Shah left Imphal early this morning around 9.30 AM. The BJP leader who was on a 2-day visit to the state visited Shri Shri Govindajee Temple and prayed at the temple before leaving for New Delhi. Amit Shah was accompanied by BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav, BJP Manipur Pradesh Prabhari Prahlad Patel, BJP Election In-charge Manipur 2017 and Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar and North East Democratic Alliance Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP Manipur Pradesh president Bhabananda, BJP MLAs Kh. Joykisan, Th. Biswajit and 2017 general election convenor Th. Chaoba along with other party workers.

Imphal, 14 September 2016 : Manipur Shumang Lila artist Huirem Bishesh who is representing India in the upcoming Miss International Queen 2016 in Bangkok was last night physically assaulted allegedly by escorts of RD & PR Minister Moirangthem Okendro. The incident occurred last night around 10 near Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak. The incident occurred when Bishesh driving a Tata Bolt with a friend identified as Rohit got stuck at the narrow lane of  Chingakham Leirak when escorts of the Minister started using abusive language. He alleged that the escorts physically assaulted them. Addressing media persons at Manipur Press club, Bishesh said the escorts even hit him on the forehead with the gun. Bishesh accused that when he shouted his friend to note down the number of the vehicle Minister Okendro returned and asked what he wanted to know. Manipur State Shuhmang Lila council President M. Purnimashi strongly condemned the incident. Purnimashi demanded immediate clarification from the side of the Minister.

Imphal, 13 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Neroca FC team who bagged the Runners-up title in the 128th Durand Cup Football Championship returned home today. The players were accorded a warm welcome when they arrived at the Imphal International Airport by officials and members of NEROCA and football fans. NEROCA FC did not lose a single match on their way to the final of 128th Durand Cup Football Championship. They lost to Army Green in the final played at Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi on September 11.   NEROCA FC will meet FC Zalen tomorrow in a match of 11th Manipur State league at  Imphal pologround at 2 pm.

Imphal, 13 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Muslims in the state today celebrated Id-ul-Zuha with traditional and religious gaiety and fervour. In morning people offered mass prayers at nearby Mosques and Eidgahs in various Muslim inhabited areas. In Thoubal District people offered prayers at the Eidgah in Sangai-yumpham. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi also participated in the mass prayer at the Eidgah in the morning. He also planted trees around the Eidgah on the occasion. Greeting the people on the festival, Okram Ibobi wished for peace and harmony among the people of the state.

People celebrated Id-ul-Zuha with religious enthusiasm at Thoubal Moijing in Thoubal constituency. Muslims offered their prayers at Moijing Eidgah in the morning. They also greeted each other and wished for peace and harmony. Many people also prayed at Kabra Jiyarat to pay their respect to their fore fathers. Mufti Alhaj Akbar khan greeted the people on this festival.

Imphal, 12 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Students in the valley are continuing agitation demanding Inner Line Permit System in the state. A large number of school students of Canchipur today blocked the Imphal-Moreh Road at around 2 pm demanding ILPS in the state. The students of ‘International School of Resource’, ‘Imphal Public School’, ‘Albert English School’ and ‘Dineshwari Higher Secondary School’ shouting various slogans marched towards Kakwa. They were stopped by large number of police personnel who drove the students to their respective schools. On the other hand, some students blocked vehicular movement near the Manipur University Main Gate. The students fled from the spot after seeing police personnel.

Imphal, 11 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : The fast unto death protest by All Manipur DPC Completed Candidate of Police Constable, Male 2013 has entered the second day today. Five candidates began the fast-unto-death protest yesterday at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai Community Hall. One of the candidates was admitted to hospital after complaining of uneasiness. Two more candidates today joined the fast. They are demanding revocation of cancellation of DPC.

Imphal, 10 September 2016 ( Evening News ): Chief Minister today asserted only govt cannot solve the problem of unemployment and stressed the role of private sector. Speaking at the flagging off of Run Raise Respond North East Half Marathon organised with an aim of encouraging entrepreneurs in the region at Kangla Fort, Chief Minister said although Manipur has huge untapped natural resources, frequent bandhs and blockades hamper the economic growth and overall progress of the state. Okram Ibobi also wished that the half marathon may bring understandings among the people of the state and bring prosperity. The Half Marathon organised by Henly Ventures Private Limited with the support of UK national Nigel Eastwood started from Kangla Fort and culminated at Nambol Sabal Leikai. Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Rajya Sabha MP Mary Kom among others attended the flagging off ceremony. Individual enthusiasts and entrepreneurs from around the state took part in the half marathon race.

Imphal, 09 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Students of Maharaja Bodhachandra College, Royal Academy, Wangkhei and Pioneer Academy, Palace Compound today took out a rally from Palace Compound to Sanjenthong demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the state at around 2 in the afternoon. Around 10 students were injured in the scuffles between the protesting students and police personnel. Police halted the rally in front of the City Convention Centre and major commotion ensued. Additional police forces arrived at the scene and fired tear gas shell and smoke bombs to disperse the students. In retaliation, infuriated students pelted stones towards police. However, police put the volatile situation under control in time and prevented any further commotion. Meanwhile, similar rally was taken by the students of Enlighten Knowledge, Sangakpham demanding implementation of ILPS in the state. Police thwarted the rally at Sangakpham Market.

Students who were injured in the scuffle between police and students are admitted at different hospitals in Imphal. First year student of DM College of Commerce, Md Laishangkhong Fazal and Class 12 student of Pioneer Academy, Angom Suranjit who were hurt by tear gas shell on knee are lodged at JNIMS. Another student, Elangbam Rojit of Brighter Academy, New Checkon is also admitted at JNIMS due to suffocation from smoke bomb. 10 students including 6 girl students of Royal Academy of Science, Wangkhei were also admitted at Advanced Hospital after they were fainted during the commotion. However, they were discharged after administering first aid.

Imphal, 09 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Deputy chief minister Gaikhangam today stressed the need for State Medico Legal Service to ensure justice for victims and survivors of rape by punishing those guilty of sexual violence against women in the state. Speaking at the one day national seminar on Investigation of Rape : A Multi-Disciplinary Approach at JNIMS Auditorium, Gaikhangam expressed grave concern at the rising cases of rape and violence against women in the state. He said the victims have not been justice due to lack of evidence and proper means of investigation. Gaikhangam also cited the absence of full fledged  forensic science department as one of the reasons for failure to ensure justice to victims. He stressed the need for a well equipped forensic department. Experts from other states, doctors and nurses of JNIMS, police officials, attended the seminar. The national seminar is organised by Forensic Medicine Department, JNIMS under Continuing Medical Education (CME).
