KSA's 48-hour bandh postponed for 2 days after Gaikhangam assured to release the students by Monday
Imphal, 11 June 2016 ( Evening News ) : Kangleipak Students’ Association has postponed the proposed 48 hour bandh for two days. The bandh was supposed to start from 5 pm today. HRD Secretary of KSA Angouton Khuman stated that the decision was taken following an assurance by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who also holds Home portfolio that the arrested students will be released by Monday. 6 representatives of KSA, KIL and CLK met Deputy Chief Minister at his office chamber. Angouton added that the Home Minister also assured them of taking stern action against the two shop owners involved in the food adulteration. However, Angouton insisted on imposing the 48-hour bandh from 6 pm of Monday if the govt fails to keep its word.
Earlier today protestors held a sit-in demanding release of members of Kangleipak Student association at Keishampat Mayengbam Leikai. The sit-in was organised by KSA. Later the protestors including students of different schools and colleges and meira paibi members and civil society organisations from Keisampat to Kwakeithel took out a rally shouting slogans towards the chief minister's bungalow. But they were stopped by the police near the Raj Bhawan. Police allowed six representatives of the KSA and Meira paibi lup to meet the chief minister at his bungalow.
One day awareness program on ‘Law on Pre Conception and the Pre Natal Diagnose Test
Imphal, 11 June 2016 ( Evening News ) : Chingmeirong Maning Leikai Shinglup under the aegis of Directorate of Family Welfare organised one day awareness program on ‘Law on Pre Conception and the Pre Natal Diagnose Test at Sinam Shyama Devi Town Hall today. The awareness program aimed at preventing pre-determination of gender during pregnancy and female foeticide. Speakers at the awareness program spoke on PC and PNDT Act 1994. Directorate of Family Welfare felicitated women who have maximum number of girl child and presented with cash awards. Director of Family Welfare, Dr K Rajo said programs are being launched at the grass roots in different places to raise awareness on the declining female sex ratio not only in Manipur but in whole India as per the 2011 census.
High Court of Manipur dismisses petition seeking quashing of criminal case against former JCILP convenor Khomdram Ratan
Imphal, 11 June 2016 : The High Court of Manipur today dismissed a criminal petition seeking quashing of criminal case against former convenor of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System Khomdram Ratan and to stay the operation of the wanted tag which was announced on the second of this month and declaration of cash reward for arrest of Khomdram Ratan singh. The petition was filed by Khomdram Ongbi Hemolata Devi wife of Khomdram Ratan. The court after hearing the parties at some length dismissed the petition as devoid of merit.
Govt didn't take timely action to solve the small issues the people have been suffering : Dr Nimaichand Luwang
Imphal, 10 June 2016 ( Evening News) : BJP senior leader Dr Nimaichand Luwang alleged that as the govt did not take timely action to solve the small issues the people have been suffering. The former minister today met the media persons at the BJP office at Nityaipat Chuthek as instructed by BJP Manipur Pradesh President Ksh. Babhananda who is in Allahabad attending the BJP national Executive meeting. Dr Nimaichand said the frequent bandhs and general strikes have badly affected the economy of the state and the daily wage earners. He said the people are aware why the police arrested the students. He stated that the time has come for the Govt to ponder why the volunteers of KSA which is a pressure group caught the food adulterators. Nimaichand also urged the pressure groups not to take the law into their own hands. The BJP leader said someday people might recognise Manipur as a land of bandhs. He appealed to the govt to release the students unconditionally before the 48 hour bandh begins. Nimaichand also appealed to the KSA to suspend the 48 hour bandh in the interest of the people.
At least 7 women injured as school van hits protestors at Thongju Boroi Makhong, vehicle set on fire
Imphal, 10 June 2016 ( Evening News) : At least 7 women were injured when a school van hit the ILP protestors at Thongju Boroi Makhong this afternoon. The protestors were staging sit-in blocking half of the road when the accident occurred. Irate mob set the Maruti van on fire. The injured were rushed to Iboyaima Hospital and other hospitals. The unfortunate incident occurred around 2 pm at Thongju Boroimakhong on National Highway Number 2, Imphal Moreh road. The maruti van bearing registration number MN1K-0659 belonged to Thongam Thembi of Singjamei Thongam Leikai. Sources said members of Meira Paibi associations were staging a sit-in on the road demanding ILP when the van coming from Naoram Leikai at a high speed hit the protestors injuring at least 7 of them. They said the van not only hit a woman but dragged her for about ten feet. The angry protestors prevented a fire tender from controlling the fire. When the personnel of Singjamei P.S tried to allow the fire tender scuffles ensued between the protestors and the police. An additional police force led by Imphal West Additional S.P rushed at the spot and put out the fire. The Van driver is now at Singjamei P.S.
Some of the injured women are admitted at Iboyaima Hospital singjamei. One has been referred to RIMS as her condition was critical. The injured who are undergoing treatment at Iboyaima hospital have been identified as Sagolsem Sangeeta, 38 from Feijaleitong, Ahanthem Ibecha, 44, Thongam Rashi, 70, Thongam Bembem and Konsam Memchoubi. They sustained injuries at head, chest and legs. Thongam Bembem who was injured in the waist has been referred to RIMS.
