Nearly 300 pending and pre litigation cases in Manipur have been settled at the National Lok Adalat
Imphal, 10 July 2016 : Nearly 300 pending and pre litigation cases in Manipur have been settled at the National Lok Adalat held at Uripok Cheirap Court today. More than Rs 64 lakh 33 thousand have also been collected at the National Lok Adalat organised by Manipur State Legal Services Authority. Cases of Electricity, Water, Telephone, Public Utility Disputes, Family Court and Bank were heard at three different benches in the court complex. National Lok Adalat is being held on the second saturday of every month throughout the year.
SDPO M. Rameswar Singh searched the house of former convenor of JCILPS Khomdram Ratan
Imphal, 10 July 2016 : A police team led by Mayang Imphal Police Station SDPO M. Rameswar Singh searched the house of former convenor of JCILPS Khomdram Ratan. The police reported that the second wife of Khomdram Ratan was not at home since July 2. On the other hand JAC Singjamei refuted the police report. Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club JAC Singjamei Convenor Th. Subash said it is very unfortunate that the police searched the house of Khomdram Ratan while the people are demanding removal of the wanted tag. He said the government’s move will not distract the people’s movement. He also said sit-ins will be held in and around Singjamei on the 10th and 11th of this month, while the future course of action will be decided after the court’s ruling on the 11th of this month.
Gaikhangam says the assembly will pass a bill to protect the indigenous people of Manipur in August
Imphal, 10 July 2016 : Deputy chief minister Gaikhangam today said the state assembly will pass a bill to protect the indigenous people of Manipur in its August session. An all political party meeting was held today to discuss the bill to protect the indigenous people of the state. The meeting was held at the Chief Minister's Conference Hall from 9am to 11.30am. All the parties except the Naga Peoples Front and National Peoples Party participated in the meeting. Leaders of various parties shared their views and opinions after the meeting with the media. Speaking to media persons Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who also holds the home portfolio once again reiterated the need for a law to prevent the small population of the indigenous people living on the International Border from vanishing. He said the govt is making preparations to frame a new bill which will have the support of both the hills and the valley. Gaikhangam revealed that the new drafted bill which is yet to be named will be first sent to Delhi to discuss with the lawyers. He maintained that the bill will be discussed among the stakeholders before the assembly passes it in its session in August.
Chief minister Ibobi speak out against politicisation of food security act and development of roads by political parties
Imphal, 09 Saturday 2016 : Chief minister Okram Ibobi today spoke out against the politicisation of national food security act and development of roads by political parties in the state. Okram Ibobi insisted political parties need not politicise such issues. The chief minister was speaking at the felicitation of Congress candidates who were elected in the recent Imphal Municipal Corporation election at Congress Bhawan. Ibobi emphasised the role of the elected Corporators in the development of Imphal city. He said the state should not always wait for the funds from the centre for the development. He maintained that is always necessary to have a strong foundation from the grassroots, the local bodies to the assembly to ensure a stable govt. He also emphasised the role of the congress party and its workers to win people's confidence in both the valley and hills. Stating that people always welcome a better change, Ibobi accused the BJP govt in the centre of changing the names of many schemes launched by the UPA to their leaders names. He said the BJP govt has changed the UPA 's Look East Policy to Act East policy but it has failed to achieve in the last two years.
People pay tributes to Sapam Robinhood on his first death anniversary, Robinhood was killed during ILPS agitation last year
Imphal, 08 July 2016 : People today paid rich tributes to Sapam Robinhood who was killed during the ILPS stir last year on his first death anniversary. Robinhood died after he was hit by a tear gas shell while students were taking protests in Imphal demanding ILPS in Manipur. A large number of people including students took part in first death anniversary of Sapam Robinhood who has been awarded the title of “Lamjing Meira”. The function was held at his memorial at Awaching in Imphal East since morning. Traditional Pena singers performed marking the beginning of the observance. A contingent of Martial artists gave General Salute to the Lamjing Meira. Students and people from different walks of life offered floral tributes at the memorial. Joint Committee On Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) also held a memorial service at the same venue.
Convenor in charge of JCILPS, BK Moirangcha said the memorial service of Lamjing Meira Sapam Robinhood will make the movement for implementation of inner line permit system in the state stronger and the people will be more determined to protect the indigenous people. He said the JCILPS has prepared a bill which will get the support of all the indigenous people of Manipur.
