Transport Directorate and Traffic Police launch joint drive against illegally operated diesel and petrol auto-rickshaws
Imphal, 12 July 2016 ( Evening News) : Transport Directorate and Traffic Police have jointly launched a drive against illegally operated diesel and petrol auto-rickshaws to ease the traffic volume in Greater Imphal areas. The auto-rickshaws plying on Nagamapal and Bir Tikendrajit roads were checked by one by one by a team led by inspector of State Transport Authority Thiyam Dinachandra if they had the necessary documents and modified the vehicles. They seized the over loaded auto-rickshaws and fined them. Thiyam Dinachandra told media persons that as per decision of the state cabinet to check the ever increasing traffic volume in Imphal areas, the dept has stopped issue of licence to Diesel and Petrol Auto-rickshaws, Tata Magic, Winger and Cruiser from July 19, 2013. He said according to the records of the department, the number of Diesel and Petrol Auto-rickshaws in Greater Imphal is about 4 thousand but the dept has received reports that the number of auto-rickshaws on the roads far exceeds the number in official records. He said picking up of passengers at unauthorised parkings by auto-rickshaws in Imphal Cityhas caused serious inconveniences to the people on the busy roads. He also appealed to the people to strictly follow the traffic rules while driving and extend cooperation to the measures taken by the department to ensure safety on the road.
RIMS AUTHORITY SUSPENDS DOCTOR INVOLVED IN KHERODA CASE
Imphal, 11 July 2016 ( Evening News ) : RIMS authority today suspended Dr. L. Trinity Meitei in the Thokchom Kheroda death case. It may be recalled that Thokchom Kheroda from Khurai Sajor Leikai died after delivering a baby girl on July 6. JAC and family of Thokchom Kheroda have agreed to take the body tomorrow. Large number of people constituting JAC members, family and locals of Khurai Sajor Leikai today stormed inside the RIMS complex demanding suspension of the doctors for negligence. The suspension order came when the protesters were meeting the RIMS Director and Medical Superintendent. RIMS Director also assured the protesters of departmental inquiry on Dr. Trinity.
CABINET DECIDED TO ANNOUNCE WANTED TAG ON RATAN
Imphal, 11 July 2016 ( Evening News) : Former JCILPS Women's Wing Convenor, Ema L. Nganbi told media persons that Chief Minister informed women representatives of JAC that Khomdram Ratan was announced wanted following an emergency meeting of the Cabinet which discussed the photograph uploaded in the Facebook. Four women representatives of JAC formed against the declaration of former JCILPS convenor Khomdram Ratan Wanted met the Chief Minister. Ema Nganbi further said the women representatives urged the Chief Minister to look into the frequent adjournment of the Khomdram Ratan case to which Chief Minister replied that the govt can not interfere in the matter as the case is in the court. Earlier in the afternoon police stopped large number of women protesters attempting to storm the CM bungalow. The women were protesting against the postponement of hearing of Khomdram Ratan case. The case was adjourned in the High Court of Manipur till July 18 due to absence of the judge. The angry women protesters were stopped by police at Nupi Lal Complex. Later the four representatives were allowed to meet the CM.
Chief minister reiterates govt's efforts to develop sports infrastructure to help the sportspersons
Imphal, 11 July 2016 : Chief minister Okram Ibobi reiterated that his govt has been making all possible steps to improve sports infrastructure in the state to facilitate sportspersons to develop their talents and do well in the national and international arenas. Speaking at the international football exhibition match between Singapore FC and United Manipur FC organised by Wahengbam Indramani memorial football academy, WIMFA at Khuman Lampak main stadium the chief minister appreciated the WIMFA for organising the international football exhibition match and hoped that the sports lovers of the state would be able to witness more international matches in their own ground. O. Ibobi also urged the people to inculcate the sense of well being, self respect, sound health and mind, good character and good moral into the young people. He appealed to the sportspersons to bring more laurels to Manipur like Mary Kom did. United Manipur FC defeated Singapore FC 3-1 in the exhibition match.
MPP president accuses govt of fooling political parties with Protection of Manipur People’s Bill withheld by India's President
Imphal, 11 July 2016 : President of Manipur people's party, N. Sovakiran today accused the state govt of fooling the political parties in the state by remaining quiet over ‘Protection of Manipur People’s Bill, 2015’ withheld by the President of India. Speaking to media persons at MPP office near Polo Ground, MPP president Sovakiran said the people of Churachandpur have objected to the new bill before its introduction in the assembly. Even if a new bill is passed by the state assembly, the MPP president expressed the apprehension that the President of India might sideline the bill as the Congress govt’s term is ending.
