Health of one of fasting students deteriorates, she has been rushed to JNIMS
Imphal, 21 July 2016 ( Evening News) : Police and Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Imphal East have rushed one of the students on hunger strike to JNIMS today as her health deteriorated. The condition of one of the four students who are on a fast unto death at Singjamei Thongkhong demanding implementation of ILPS in the state, deteriorated today. Pangambam Mariya, 17 years, daughter of P. Naobicha from Kongba Kshetri Leikai is a student of TG higher secondary school. She has been on fast with three other school students since Tuesday evening. Police personnel of Singjamei police station along with a team of Welfare Committee (CWC), Imphal East came to the spot to pick her up but she refused to go. A team of women police from Singjamei police station was called and Mariys was taken to JNIMS. It may be mentioned that 4 students including 2 girls are on fast unto death since July 19 demanding ILPS. Meanwhile, all kinds of vehicles coming towards Singjamei bridge were diverted.
Normal life was hit by the 13 hour bandh
Imphal, 20 July 2016 ( Evening News) : Normal life was hit by the 13 hour bandh called by KCP-Porei Meitei against the unethical appointment of JNIMS Director Dr. Laishram Deben. The main markets in Imphal including Khwairamband Bazar, Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar remained closed during the bandh that began from 5 this morning. Public transport remained off the road while a few private vehicles were seen on the road. Most of the educational institutes remained closed in the city. The bandh is peaceful so far and no untoward incident has been reported from any part of the state.
Women's wing of JCILPS try to storm Raj Bhawan protesting transfer of Ratan's case to another division bench
Imphal, 20 July 2016 (Evening News) : Members of JCILPS women's wing today attempted to storm the Raj Bhawan demanding removal of wanted tag on former JCILPS convenor Ratan Khomdram declared by Manipur Police department. The women protestors also demanded removal of Respondent Counsel, Advocate General Th. Ibohal for requesting the court to transfer the hearing of Khomdram Ratan case to another division bench. The hearing of the case began today before the division bench of the chief justice of High Court of Manipur, Rakesh Ranjan Prasad and Justice S. Serto. The women protestors suddenly attempted to storm the Raj Bhawan soon after the court transferred the hearing of the case to another division bench. They were however stopped by the personnel of CRPF and Manipur police posted at the Raj Bhawan. Later 5 representatives of the women's wing were allowed to enter the Raj Bhawan. They met the Governor's Principal Private Secretary as the governor was not in Imphal. Talking to media persons former convenor of JCILPS, Women's Wing Lourembam Nganbi said the declaration of Ratan Khomdram wanted is against the Indian Constitution. She also lambasted the Advocate General for seeking Criminal Proceeding against the Media and counsel of the Petitioner.
Gaikhangam urges people of both hills and valley to work together for development of Manipur
Imphal, 20 July 2016 : Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said the people of both the hills and the valley need to work together and live in peace for a collective development of the state. Gaikhangam inaugurated a new Administrative Building of the Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council at Kangpokpi. Speaking at the function organised by District Council Administration, Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council, Kangpokpi, Gaikhangam said the present state government works for the welfare of hill people to a uniform development in the hills and valley. He was optimistic that the new office building will help in accelerating welfare programs for the people in Sadar Hills.
Rice quota for Manipur under the National Food Security Act for a month is 1.51 lakh tonne
Imphal, 19 July 2016 ( Evening News) : BJP Manipur Pradesh leader Th. Chaoba said rice quota for Manipur under the National Food Security Act for a month is 1.51 lakh tonne. The former BJP president alleged that as the rice is not distributed properly to the people the govt has not utilised Rs 453 crore. Addressing media persons at BJP head office in Nityaipat Chuthek, Th. Chaoba alleged rice quota for 4 months has been taken after Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh announced the implementation of food security act on April 25 this year. He said the people are yet to receive rice quota for a month. Th. Chaoba accused the ministers and MLAs of misappropriating the rice meant for NFSA. He demanded white paper on the National Food Security Act.
