Imphal, 30 July 2016 ( Evening News ) : Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu today laid the foundation of Tunnel Number 12 which will be the longest rail tunnel in the country and Imphal Railway Station at Yurembam Awang Leikai. The Imphal Railway Station will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 8.7 crore. Speaking on the occasion, Suresh Prabhu said a proposal will be submitted to the Union Finance Ministry for the extension of rail head up to Moreh from Imphal. The union minister also reminded that all round development of the North eastern region and bringing an emotional integration of the region with the rest of the country is among the main agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A team of railway Ministry will take stock of the project targeted to complete by December 2019. Suresh Prabhu also said the Centre and the state govt need to work together in terms of the security of the project once it is completed.

Imphal, 30 July 2016 ( Evening News ) : Three inmates died early this morning at Central Jail, Sajiwa during clashes among the jail inmates. The deceased are identified as Thangminlian Zou, age 29, son of Kaphanpao from Maullum Village, Churachandpur, Yusuf, age 21, son of Siddiq and Abdul Salam, age 22, son of Abdul Ahad,  from Madinatul Manou Warh, Saudi Arabia. The incident occurred at around 1 AM at Cell Number 6 of Sector 1 where all the deceased are lodged together. Yusuf and Abdul first assaulted Thangminlian and he died on the spot. Other inmates forcibly opened their cells and retaliated against Yusuf and Abdul. Security personnel at the jail had to fire gun in the air, tear gas shells and mock bombs to put the situation under control. However, Yusuf and Abdul died during the clash and three security personnel including a jailor sustained injury.  Thangminlian was an under trial under IPC Section 302 and Yusuf and Abdul were lodged in the jail after they were arrested under Foreigners’ Act in 2013 while entering Moreh, India without valid documents. Process to deport them to Saudi Arabia was underway. All the bodies have been taken to JNIMS for post mortem and a case has been registered at Heingang Police station. ADGP, Jail and Prison, P Doungel, SP Imphal East, Angam and SDO Imphal East rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. How the fight among the three inmates erupted was not immediately known.

Imphal, 29 July 2016 ( Evening News ): Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System has called for 24-hour Public Curfew from midnight tonight till midnight tomorrow. However, educational institutions, essential services and religious ceremonies will be exempted from the purview of the Public curfew. Announcing the curfew, JCILPS Convenor-in-Charge BK Moirangcha said the curfew has been called in condemnation of police actions against the protesting students at Singjamei bridge and dismantling of makeshift shed where a public meeting was proposed to be held under the aegis of JAC formed against the declaration of former JCILPS Convenor Kh Ratan wanted. Speaking to media at JCILPS office at Sega Road, BK Moirangcha said permission to hold the public meeting was taken from Imphal East Deputy Commissioner. However, the permit was suddenly cancelled and police reached the spot and halted the proposed meeting. Moirangcha termed the police atrocities on the protesting students and dismantling of the makeshift shed as the most unfortunate and unacceptable. He maintained that it is now time to open a check post and verify the illegal influx of migrant workers. The Convenor-in-Chage also added that JCILPS will launch different forms of agitation if the govt fails to give enough time to discuss the new bill to be introduced in the state assembly for the protection of the indigenous people of the state.

Imphal, 29 July 2016 ( Evening News ) : Manipur Police foiled the proposed public meeting organised by JAC formed against the declaration of former JCILPS Convenor Khomdram Ratan wanted at Singjamei bridge this morning. Police also picked up the students who are on fast unto death and two girl students fainted in the melee and were rushed to the hospital. A large number of police personnel of Imphal West, Imphal East and Lamphel Police arrived at Singjamei bridge early in the morning after Deputy Commissioner Imphal East, prohibited holding of the meeting on the road which may cause inconveniences to the commuters. Police asked the people gathered at the spot to leave the place and attempted to pick up the fasting students. Scuffles ensued between the students and the police. Later police called in an ambulance of CMO Imphal East and took away the fasting students to JNIMS. Women and students who gathered at the place for the meeting retaliated the police action. Police forced the people to leave the place and dismantled the makeshift shed where the meeting was supposed to be held. More students joined in and scuffles broke out between the students and the police. Two girl students fainted and they were rushed to hospital.

Imphal, 28 July 2016 ( Evening News ) : A team of women vendors launched a drive at  Panthoibi Sana Keithel temporary Market last night to prevent untoward incidents. Ima Panthoibi Sana Keithel Lup had earlier warned the women vendors not to stay at the market after 9 pm. It said the presence of some women vendors till late night in the temporary market near the BT park has portrayed a wrong image of the women vendors. The drive was taken to prevent women vendors from staying in the market after 9 at night. No individuals or organisations other than KEDO, WUM, AMUK and MASEL are not allowed to look after the sheds at night. During the drive 7-8  non-Manipuris were found staying in the market sheds besides a few women vendors. Secretary of Ima Panthoibi Sana Keithel Lup, Khomdram (O) Joymati Leima told Impact News that the drive will be continued to prevent untoward incidents.
