Imphal, 07 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : BJP State Election Management Committee Convenor Thounaojam Chaoba today said BJP Manipur Pradesh welcomes everyone who wants to join the party. But the party has problem in enrolling those persons including MLAs who are not accepted by the masses. Addressing media persons at BJP head office in Nityaipat Chuthek, Th. Chaoba said the State Core Committee meeting held at New Delhi on August 2 discussed on the policy programme for the upcoming general election to be held early next year. The meeting also discussed on the various issues facing the state of Manipur. The party leaders in New Delhi ordered the BJP Manipur Pradesh to take up whatever steps it can to solve the issues. Th. Chaoba said there was no discussion held regarding the issuing of party tickets. Clarifying regarding some party members wooing voters claiming themselves to be BJP’s chief ministerial candidate, Th. Chaoba said the party is yet to decide on the chief ministerial candidate.

Imphal, 07 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : Volunteers of Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur today disrupted the written examination for the recruitment of Assistant Registrar of Manipur University and damaged examination hall and administrative hall of MU. Leaders of DESAM and volunteers stormed Manipur University campus barging the main gate of the University and marched towards Social Science New Block. As soon as they reached the examination centre, volunteers of DESAM pelted stones towards examination hall. Police personnel led by Singjamei Police station OC dispersed the volunteers from the area. The volunteers then rushed towards Administrative Block of the University and caused some damage. Additional security forces were called in and put the situation under control. Compelled by the prevailing situation, Paper 1 and 2 which were supposed to be held differently were conducted simultaneously. Volunteers of DESAM shouted slogans such as ‘Resign Manipur University Vice Chancellor’ and ‘The Written Test is Unacceptable’. DESAM President Moirangthem Angamba said the written test was held in the interest of the Vice Chancellor who is to retire in 10 days defying the UGC norms of restriction of recruiting any staff by a VC who is to retire in 2 months. DESAM President also demanded to clarify on the matter at the earliest.  

Imphal, 06 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : An IED weighing about 2.5 Kg was discovered today at a place just 50 metre away from where a powerful IED exploded yesterday injuring 1 CRPF personnel and a 2 year old girl. Personnel of 109 CRPF manning Raj Bhavan discovered the IED between Johnstone Higher Secondary School and M-Sector this morning around 6.15 while patrolling the area leading to BT Park. Two sniffer dogs detected the location of the IED. Top officials of Maipur police and a team of bomb squad rushed to the spot and tried to defuse the IED. The bomb squad had a hard time trying to defuse the IED which had a dual mechanism trigger. The team managed to defuse one of the triggers. Signal Jammer of Bihar Regiment and Bomb Basket were used and the IED was safely removed. Mention may be made that a sentry post of M-Sector stands just opposite the spot where the IED was found.

Imphal, 06 August 2016 : 1 CRPF personnel and a 2 year old girl were injured in a suspected IED blast that occurred in front of Manipur State Museum and south-east of Imphal Polo Ground around 5:45 this evening. The injured CRPF personnel is identified as Head Constable SM Naik age 48 of Karnataka posted at (E)Coy 109 Battalion, Mongsangei. Both the injured were rushed to  RIMS hospital and they are reported to be out danger. Some portion of the wall of State Museum and 2 cars parked nearby were damaged in the explosion. Top CRPF and state Police officials rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.

Imphal, 04 August 2016 ( Evening News ) :2 Manipur police personnel have been arrested with a huge amount of drugs in Guwahati. Sources in Guwahati today said two Manipur police personnel along with another person were arrested at Beltola in Guwahati. The sources also said a huge consignment of drugs was also seized from the possession of the three arrested persons. Meanwhile, the Assam police are interrogating the arrested  police personnel to get information on the drug trafficking nexus. The arrested three persons hves been identified as Manglemjao Singh, Inao Singh and Saibom Raym, all from Manipur.
