Imphal, 16 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : The 12th death anniversary of Pebam Chittaranjan Mangang was observed today. People offered flowers to his portrait and students took out a rally as a mark of respect to him. Chittaranjan died by self immolation on August 15 2004 at Bishnupur bazar demanding repeal of AFSPA. Manipur Students Federation (MSF) observed the day at his birthplace at  Sega Road Takellambam Leikai. A large number of students took out a rally from Takhellambam Leikai to Thau ground Thangmeiband. MSF President, Oinam Nandababu said if all the organisations work jointly all the issues facing the state can be successfully resolved.

Imphal, 16 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : The final hearing of the case against the wanted tag on former convener of joint committee on inner line permit system, JCILPS, Khomdram Ratan was held in the high court of Manipur today. The division bench comprising of justice Nongmeikapam Kotishwar and Kh. Nobin heard the case in the court number two. The final hearing which began around 10.30 am lasted till noon. After hearing the arguments the division bench reserved its verdict. It may be recalled that the hearing of the case has been going on in the high court.

Imphal, 16 August 2016 ( Evening News ): The Thangjing Air crash Memorial committee, Chingamakha today observed the 25th death anniversary of the victims who died in the air crash on the August 16 1991 at Chingamakha Kshetri Leikei at the residence of Revenue, Forest & Environment, I. Hemochandra. People offered flowers to the photos of former Dy Chief Minister Irengbam Tompok, former MLA Keisham Bira and others who lost their lives in the air crash in the Thangjing Hills. A two minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

Imphal, 16 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : At least 5 vehicles including a two wheeler were damaged on the Imphal-Moreh stretch of National Highway 102 by volunteers of JAC against the murder of M. Jamkholal Zou @ George during the indefinite bandh. On the fifth day of the bandh called by JAC, bandh supporters vandalised the windshields of some vehicles coming from Pallel towards Moreh near H. Kotlenphai Village yesterday morning.The vehicles included a Bus, Omni Van, Alto Car, Ecco Van and a Honda Activa. Sources said the vehicles were coming from Pallel towards Moreh when they were stopped by bandh supporters near H. Kotlenphai Village and damaged for defying the indefinite bandh. It be mentioned that JAC against the murder of M. Jamkholal Zou  called for an indefinite Bandh on Imphal- Moreh Highway since midnight of August 10 in protest against the government's failure  to take action against the outfit involved in the murder. Meanwhile, United Zou Organisation (UZO) Sugnu Block also demanded punishment for the responsible group or individual involved in the murder.

Imphal, 15 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : Two bombs exploded one after another in Imphal today at around 8.30 this morning despite strict vigilance from the security forces and state police. The first blast occurred near the gate of Manipur College located opposite Singjamei Chingmakha Oinam Leikai under Singjamei Police station while the second blast occurred at the Tera Keithel under the Lamphel Police station. The first bomb exploded near a drain at Chinga-Ching Makhong which is 50 metres from Manipur College gate. No one was injured in the blast. A team of Singjamei Police rushed to the spot to take the situation. Later Manipur Police bomb squad thoroughly checked the areas. Meanwhile it is suspected that bomb was an IED. It is worth mentioning here that a post of Assam Riffles is located at the Chinga Chingkhong.

The second bomb exploded near the residence of 82 years old Mayanglambam Modhu at the Tera Keithel on New Cachar Road. No one was injured in the blast although Mayanglambam Modhu and his 76 years old wife Mema were taken to hospital for check up as they complaint of problem in the ears due to the sound of the blast. A team of Imphal West Additional SP Th. Bikramjit and Manipur Police team rushed to the spot to take stoke of the situation. Speaking to Impact News, Modhu’s son Romel said the blast has frightened their old parents. He appealed to all not to repeat such incident in future.

Meanwhile Meira Paibis and locals of Singjamei Chinga-Makha Oinam Leirak staged a sit-in at the Leisemlon Marup Community hall in protest against the blast. Various placards condemning the blast including “We condemn the bomb blast in residential area, we want peace” were displayed at the protest. Speaking to Impact News, one of the protesters appealed to all not to repeat such incident in the future.
