Imphal, 24 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : Indefinite bandh called by All Manipur Written Successful candidate of Police Constable Male 2013 did not have much impact on Imphal City, it badly affected areas in the outskirts of the city and other district headquarters of the state. Bandh supporters blocked roads at Lamphel Sana Keithel and Watham Leirak, Thangmeiband by burning tyres. Similar protest was also reported from Langdum Lamkhai under Imphal East. All business establishments were closed in Thoubal Athokpam, Yairipok, Wabagai, Bishnupur bazaar, Nambol and Sekmai.
Chief minister and deputy chief minister avoid question on cancellation of recruitment of police constables held in 2013
Imphal, 24 August 2016 ( Evening News) : Both the chief minister and deputy chief minister today avoided to answer a question on the cancellation of recruitment of 2000 constables in Manipur police department held in 2013. Impact News asked Okram Ibobi and Gaikhangam about the govt's plan regarding the discrepancies in the recruitment and the indefinite Manipur bandh called by the candidates who took part in the recruitment on the sidelines of an event which was attended by both of them. O. Ibobi and Gaikhangam said they will answer the question in an appropriate time and declined to speak further.
First e-district project of Manipur opened, Chief Minister Ibobi stresses role of Information Technology
Imphal, 24 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today emphasised the importance of information technology in every sphere. Okram Ibobi today launched the first e-District Project in Manipur at an event held at Imphal Hotel. In his speech Ibobi expressed the hope that the e-district will help the people living in far flung areas in the hills and valley in collecting information and essential documents from govt offices. He said people need not go to District Head Quarters and DC Offices to get official documents. He also reiterated the role of the DCs and their staffs in ensuring the benefits of the project among the people. He urged them to work sincerely to make the most out of the project. Ibobi said the govt. is giving top priority to power sector to make the project successful. The chief minister also stated that even though the country aims to provide 24 hour power supply by 2020, Manipur aims to achieve the target by 2017. In his speech deputy chief minister Gaikhangam also emphasised the sincerity of the employees to make the project a success. Under the project the people will be able to get their Income Certificate, Birth Certificate, Schedule Caste & Schedule Tribe certificates and register their names on Electoral Roll online.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam says the people of Manipur are at the crossroads
Imphal, 24 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today asserted that the people of Manipur are at the crossroads. Speaking at the inauguration of the 1st Manipur Educators Mind Set Workshop organised by Department of Higher and Technical Education Manipur and International Youth Fellowship (IYF), South Korea at Classic Grande, Gaikhangam said today the Manipuri society is completely confused as people lack discipline which often leads to turmoil. He said not only the teachers but parents must guide the younger generation especially the students into the right path. The Deputy Chief Minister appreciated the organisers of the workshop which he believes will help in shaping the society. Education Minister Dr. Kh. Ratan, IYF General Secretary Jae Hong Kim, IYF Odisha, Director Koo Yeon Kim, officials of state education department and volunteers of IYF took part in the event.
Two persons injured as police fire tear gas at the protest rally by candidates of police constable
Imphal, 23 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : At least two persons were injured when police fired tear gas shells during a protest rally taken pot by candidates of police constables. A meeting and rally were today organised by the candidates whose DPC for recruitment to the posts of police constable 2013 was cancelled by the govt. They were protesting against the govt's decision to cancel the recruitment process. The meeting was held at Singjamei Top Leikai community Hall. The meeting resolved to file a case in the Supreme Court against the cancellation of DPC. After the meeting a large number of candidates took out the protest rally at Singjamei Super Market on Indo-Burma Road. The rally was intercepted by a large number police at Singjamei Chingngamakha Traffic island. The angry candidates pelted stones at police and in retaliation police fired tear gas shells and smoke bombs to control the situation. During the commotion 2 candidates were injured and rushed to Advanced Hospital in Palace Compound. The injured persons are identified as N. Johnson from Naharup Pang-gong and T. Sobachandra from Thoubal Thokchom Village. N. Johnson is said to be in critical condition. All the shops at Singjemei Super Market and Singjamei Bzar remained closed after the incident.
