IED weighing about 2 and a half kg was discovered at Ngaikhong Khullen Mamang
Imphal, 02 September 2016 : An IED weighing about 2 and a half kg was discovered at Ngaikhong Khullen Mamang pat-ton under Bishnupur Police station yesterday morning around 6. Villagers found the IED and informed the police. Later a team of Manipur Police bomb expert removed the bomb and safely exploded near Khwairapan canal. A case has been registered at Bishnupur police station.
Chief Minister Ibobi appeals to insurgent groups to re-consider ban on Bollywood films in Manipur
Imphal, 01 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today appealed to the insurgent groups to re-consider the ban on screening of Bollywood films in cinema halls in Manipur. Chief Minister observed that despite the ban the people of the state still watch Hindi movies. Ibobi Singh was speaking at the function to mark the reopening of the one of the oldest cinema halls in the state Usha Hall, Paona Bazar. Screening of films resumed at Usha Cinema from today. He said he feels embarrassed when visitors or guests from other countries asked him about the cinema halls in the state. The Chief Minister said it is shameful that cinema halls are shut down in a state like Manipur where people have been preserving their cultures since time immemorial. He also emphasised the need to promote them more. Ibobi mentioned that Manipur Film Policy is almost in the final stage. He reiterated the role of films in bringing about a change in the society.
IMC Mayor, Soram Sunil appeals for relaxation of persons engaged in cleaning of the city during bandh
Imphal, 01 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Imphal Municipal Corporation Mayor, Soram Sunil has appealed to all concerned to exempt the persons engaged in cleaning of the city during general Strike or bandh. Speaking at a press meet held at the corporation, the mayor said these employees of the corporation need to be relaxed like the people attending religious functions, essential services and patients during bandhs. Sunil said Manipur is placed at the 15th position in the Smart City competition. He stated that the garbage continues to pile up in the city during bandhs causing grievous inconveniences to the people. To keep the city neat and clean the mayor appealed to all to relax the IMC employees so that they can do their duties without apprehension and keep Imphal neat and clean.
BJP MLAs Kh. Joykisan and Th. Biswajit were released by the court
Imphal, 01 September 2016 : BJP MLAs Kh. Joykisan and Th. Biswajit were released by the court yesterday afternoon around 2 pm. The CJM Imphal East remanded to judicial custody till September 13. Heingang Police Station yesterday withdrew the FIR against them. They were released from the Ist Manipur Rifles. It may be recalled that the two MLAs tried to halt the physical efficiency test for candidates of police constable yesterday morning at Manipur Police Training College at Pangei. Imphal East police detained them and were produced before the CJM Imphal East last evening around 5.40 pm. They refused to go on a Rs 10,000 PR Bond. Both the MLAs went to the party office at Nityaipat Chuthek as soon as they came out of 1st MR.
The supporters of MLA Th. Biswajit accorded him a rousing welcome when he reached his home at Ningomthong. The people garlanded him and chanted slogans in his support. Later talking to media MLA Biswajit said the Congress once accused the NDA govt in the center of being intolerant government but it will not be an exaggeration now to say that the congress government in the state is an intolerant government. The MLA said by withdrawing all the cases against him the govt has admitted its wrongdoing. He thanked the people for their support.
Thangmeiband MLA Khumukcham Joykisan was also accorded a warm welcome by the people of Thangmeiband when he reached his home at Khoyathong. At the event held at community hall near Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba the MLA maintained that the release of the 2 MLAs unconditionally by the court proves that the state govt is guilty. He said the problem of the recruitment of police constables held in 2013 would not have arisen if the government made the enquiry report was made public. He accused the govt of violating people's rights. Meanwhile BJP Thangmeiband Mandal has also withdrawn the indefinite bandh in the constituency.
Violence occurred in Wangjing Tentha
Imphall, 30 August 2016 ( Evening News ) : Violence occurred in Wangjing Tentha as a large number of people of the area prevented the handing over of a playground to people by Wangjing Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen yesterday at Tentha Mathak Konjin Leikai. The people set fire to chairs and shamiana. They also assaulted two brothers of the MLA and snatched their licensed guns and mobile finds. The two persons have been identified as Paonam Khelen, 61 years, and Paonam Thambou, 47 years. Sources said the people have been boycotting the Tentha MLA following a violent incident during the last assembly election. The people blocked the road after they learnt that the MLA was coming to inaugurate the playground. They halted two persons on a two wheeler and asked them to identify themselves. The sources also said the two persons did not disclose their identity but pulled out a gun. Infuriated the people assaulted them. Later they were handed over to Khongjom police who rushed to the spot to control the situation. However the licensed gum and the mobile phones are yet to be found. Meanwhile Wangjing Tentha Kendra Development Committee in a press release said the residents of Tentha Leima Konjin requested the MLA to hand over the paper relating to the ground. They condemned the attack on the two persons.
