Imphal, 13 June 2017 ( Evening News ) : Convenor of BJP Manipur Pradesh Election Management Committee,Thounaojam Chaoba has alleged over Rs 300 crore NFSA scam in the state. Chaoba said there is a scam involving 134 crore and 55 lakh rupees in black marketing of PDS items of NFSA from November 2016 to March 2017. Addressing media persons at the BJP office at Nityaipat Chuthek, he said the amount involved will be nearly 300 crore rupees, if the PDS items for hill areas are also included. He cited Nambol Constituency as an example and said the monthly rice quota for the constituency is one lakh 79 thousand and 400 kg. Chaoba alleged that  the 24 Fair Price Shop Agents in the constituency acquired the entire quota of rice for 5 months at the rate of 3 rupees per kg without people’s knowledge and sold the rice in black market at 25 to 30 rupees per kilogram and made a profit of around 2 crore 24 lakh and 25 thousand. Chaoba maintained that such malpractices were prevalent during the previous Congress government. He appealed to the BJP led Government  to inquire into the NFSA scam.

Imphal, 13 June 2017 ( Evening News ) : Governor Dr Najma Heptulla today visited the women's markets in Imphal for the first time after she became the governor of Manipur and listened to grievances of women vendors. She assured them of notifying the state and central Governments of the inconveniences faced by women vendors. Two of the three women markets in Khwairamband bazaar which were damaged in last year's earth quake are still under repair. The Governor met the women vendors who are facing inconveniences due to non-availability of vending spaces due to the repair work. She made her first stop at the temporary market behind Johnstone Higher Secondary School and interacted with the vendors. She listened to women vendors as they shared their grievances with her. She later visited Ima Market and spent time with the women vendors of the market. The governor also offered flowers to Keithel Lairembi and Ima Leimaren Sidabi located in the market. The vendors presented clothes, necklace and other items to her. Speaking to media persons during the visit Dr Najma Heptulla expressed her happiness over meeting with the women vendors of Ima market, the only women's market in the world. She also assured them of developing the markets.

Imphal, 11 June 2017 ( Evening News ) : The Arambam Somorendro Trust organised a one day symposium on "Conversations on Contemporary Issues: Changing Discourse on Human Rights in Manipur and The Government of India-NSCN(IM) Political Dialogue and Implications for the Future Of Manipur" at Lamyanba Shanglen today. The symposium was organised as part of 17th Arambam Somorendra Martyrdom Anniversary. Speaking on “Human Rights in Manipur”, Director of Human Rights Alert, Babloo Loitongbam pointed out that the rights of the people of Manipur to speak or assemble during a crisis has been lost in the 1990's. People have been revolting against AFSPA for a long time and that the security forces have been involved in many extra judicial killings. Out of the 1528 cases of extra judicial killings, the supreme court will take up 700 cases. He said there is fear of a few cases being eradicated and that it is time we discussed about further steps. Chairperson of Arambam Somorendro Trust, Dr. Lokendra Arambam spoke on "The Government of India-NSCN(IM) Political Dialogue and Implications for the Future Of Manipur". It was moderated by Chairperson of North East Co-ordination Committee on Human Rights, Advocate Chongthamcha Surjit. Members of various civil society organisations and many intellectuals were present on the occasion.

Imphal, 09 June 2017 ( Evening News ) : A deadly fire broke out early this morning suspected to be due to a short circuit at two manufacturing units located at Takyel Industrial Estate in Takyelpat causing damage to machines worth around 2 Crore Rupees. The two ill fated units are Manipur Plastic and Loktak Industries situated at Type-C. Loktak industries produces the packaged water drinking "Silver Dew". According to sources, fire broke at around 7 this morning at the shed opposite to these two units. People tried to fight the fire, but in vain. The fire spread to shed number 12, 13 and 14. Although the Manipur fire service was informed, the fire had already caused damages to the valuables of these units, like the machines before their arrival. The fire spread rapidly as there were plastic bottles around. The fire service team contained the situation around 9 in the morning. Apart from other machines, the fire also caused damages to plastic bottle making machines. People were able to save few items from the shed. Manipur Plastic and Loktak Industries are both run by a single owner.

Imphal, 08 June 2017 ( Evening News ) : Authority continued food safety drive today in Hapta Golapati in Imphal east. A team of Food Safety Enforcement Wing, Imphal East today conducted drive against sale of tobacco products and meat shops along the main road in Hatta Golapati. Trouble erupted when a group of women in Hatta attempted to snatch the confiscated from the team of the Food Safety Enforcement Wing, Imphal East. A team of Food Safety Enforcement Wing, Imphal East began the drive at 10 this morning from Hatta Golapati till Checkon. They confiscated tobacco products including zarda, khaini and food items brought in from Moreh from the shops. They also checked the meat shops in the area. The team sealed shops which were selling meat without the FSSAI license and in hazardous conditions. While the team was checking the shops, a group of women came out and tried to snatch the confiscated tobacco items around noon. Scuffles ensued between the women and members of the Food Safety Enforcement Wing, Imphal East. An additional police force was rushed at the site to control the situation and the drive continued.
