Imphal, 04 July 2017 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren announced that the Government will take steps to bring the drug addicts in the state back to normalcy. Chief Minister, Biren handed over 47 Drug addicts to different rehabilitation centres under the aegis of Social welfare department and also appointed IG (Administration) Dr S Ibomcha as the Nodal Officer as part of the Government’s initiative to bring the addicts to a right path.On the occasion, Biren also gave instruction to Social Welfare Department to work together with the Police Department. Chief Minister today interacted with the drug addicts and parents at an event held at  Banquet Hall of 1st Manipur Rifles and listened to their opinions and issues. Speaking to media persons, Chief Minister said the number of drug abusers are increasing in the state and it is very unfortunate that many youths are fallen into the temptation of drugs. He said the Government aims to band all intoxicating substances and drugs in the state and to bring the drug abusers back to normal life. He further said Police Department along with the Social welfare department is now required to arrest the addicts and rehabilitate them. He appealed to the people, NGOs under social department to support the Government’s initiative to wipe out drug and its abuse completely from the state. DGP of Manipur Police, Principal Secretary of Social Welfare Department, Director of Social Welfare Department and top officials were present at the event.

Imphal, 03 July 2017 ( Evening News ) : About 200 trucks have been stranded outside FCI Godown at Sangaiprou. These trucks, carrying rice to be stocked at the FCI Godown have been stranded due to the space constraints at the godown to unload the rice. There are trucks that have been stranded for 20 to 25 days and there are others who have been stranded for over a month on the almost one kilometre long road. Drivers and helpers of these trucks are facing grievous inconveniences in fooding and other daily activities. The rice have not been unloaded since the state Govt has not withdrawn the old stock from godown. The unloading issue occurs on a regular basis. When the drivers approached the officials, they were informed that there are no spaces available due to old stock. Driver, Alimuddin was informed by the officials that the rice bags can be unloaded in the lines of the existing stack. He further said due to the trucks being stranded for a long time, not only do they face issues with fooding, but also have lost almost 50 percent of profits they would earn if they were driving. He appealed the Govt through Impact News to look into the matter at the earliest.

Imphal, 02 July 2017 ( Evening News ) :With most of the rivers flowing above danger level following the incessant rains in the last couple of days, the bank of the Kongba river breached at two different places flooding several houses in the area. The bank breached at Kongba Erong and Ucheckon Lai Moriba last mid night around 1 AM. Locals along with PWD Minister Thongam Biswajit who is also the local MLA tried to block the over flowing since last night. The river breached its bank at Kongba Erong while the people were trying to block the overflowing water. Bashikhong and other areas of Thongju constituency have been inundated by river water. Minister Biswajit along with the personnel of Singjamei Police, Porompat Police and Erilbung Police attempted to block the water. No officials of the IFCD have arrived at the site till the time of this reporting. Meanwhile, relief camps have been set up in Thongju constituency under the supervision of Minister Biswajit.

Imphal, 30 June 2017 ( Evening News ) : One Assam Rifles personnel was killed and two others were injured in a bomb blast today in Ukhrul district. The explosion occurred this morning around 7.20 at Ramva Assam Rifles Check point under Shangshak Police Station in Ukhrul. The deceased personnel is identified as Rifleman Biju Saruruwar, 30 years from North Lakhimpur in Assam. The two injured personnel are identified as Rifleman Niharanjan Das, 35 years from Kendra Para District of Orissa and Havildar Yashpal, 37 years from Udhampur District in Jammu & Kashmir. The injured personnel have been lifted by chopper and are being treated at Leimakhong Military Hospital. Sources said the bomb was planted near the Check Point and the deceased personnel was on duty as Security Guard at the Check Point. Some arms were  also damaged in the explosion. The area has been cordoned off and security forces are keeping vigil.

Imphal, 30 June 2017 ( Evening News ) : Chief minister Nongthombam Biren today said the govt is mulling over export of country liquor made in Andro, Sekmai and Phayeng. Speaking at the inaugural function of Andro Santhei Natural Park yesterday Biren recalled that the  forefathers described Manipur as the land of jewel. He also appreciated the people of Andro for protecting and maintaining the hills. He asserted that if the people are aware of the significance of environment, there is no need for a Forest Department. Biren further said the cause of landslides and floods in Manipur is due to unchecked felling of trees. He appealed to people to maintain greenery all around like the Santhei people cared for their surroundings. MAHUD Minister, Th Shyamkumar said the villagers of Andro are contributing in checking Global Warming and Andro is fast becoming a tourist spot. Works Minister Th Bishwajit said the Tourism Department should have funded parks like Santhei. He asserted that the government will develop Santhei by spending Rs 200 crores.  MLAs Sanasam Bira, L Sushindro, Dr Sapam Ranjan and officials of Tourism Department were also present at the event.
