Imphal, 31 July 2017 ( Evening News ) : Deputy Chief Minister kept in the house that 5 person died, 81 persons are hospitalised and 24 others are now in a critical state after consuming spurious liquor at Oinam Sawombung. Chief Minister appealed 60 MLAs at the house to unanimously take up a measure to ban the production and sell of liquor in Manipur. As a calling attention motion, opposition MLA K Meghachandra drew the attention of the house regarding the death and hospitalisation of many persons at Oinam Sawombung after the consumption of liquor. He said in spite of the presence of Manipur liquor Prohibition Act 1991, the production and sell of liquor cannot be checked. He also urged  to take up action against excise department and police personnel who cannot keep the sell of liquor in check. Replying to MLA Meghachandra, Chief Minister said the inability to keep the production and sell of liquor in check in the the state is not because of just 4 month old Government, it has been going on for many years, however, the government is keeping a close eyes into the matter and steps have been taken up. Chief Minister appealed the house members to come to a decision together whether to ban the production of liquor including change of Manipur liquor Prohibition Act 1991 which allows costumery production of liquor  or to let the costumery production continue by keeping a strict check at the gates of the villages which produce liquor. On the other hand, he also appealed the members to decide together to frame a policy to legalise the liquor and produce it with proper test and procedure

Imphal, 23 July 2017 ( Evening News ) : In a shocking incident a 15-year old girl was allegedly shot point blank by a 21-year-old man early this morning in Moreh. She has been identified as Nengneingah Khongsai daughter of Lethang Khongsai, presently staying at her uncle’s place at Gilgan village. The deceased girl was a student of class 9 at Mount Moreh Public School. The accused is identified as Sasat Haokip, 21 years son of Thanglet Haokip from Chavangphai village in Moreh. The incident occurred this morning around 5 at Gilgan Khul, Moreh Gate Number 1. Family members rushed towards the room on hearing the gun shots and found Nengneingah lying on the sofa. They saw a man running away from the house. Family members shouted for help and the neighbours rushed out of their homes. The people informed the police who had come to pick up the girl's body that Sasat was hiding in one of the houses in the neighbourhood. OC of Moreh police station, H. Chaoba and J. Baite arrested Sasat from the house where he was hiding. Police also recovered a country made 9 mm pistol with 3 live rounds from the spot. Nengneingah  was shot in the forehead. Family members suspected one sided love angle behind the murder. Tension erupted when the people stormed the Moreh police station when the police was taking the accused to Imphal. of the locality tried to stop the police when they were trying to take Sasat to Imphal. Police sources said Sasat is a cadre of the banned militant outfit, Kuki National Army, KNA. Shops in Moreh downed the shutters against the killing.

Imphal, 22 July 2017 ( Evening News ) : The United NGOs Mission Manipur-UNMM along with Centre for Social Development-CSD, Human Rights Alert-HRA, North East Dialogue Forum-NEDF organised one day symposium on “Dialogue on establishing an effective Manipur State Human Rights Commission” at Classic Grande today. Speaking at the event, Executive Director of Human Rights Alert-HRA, Babloo Loitongbam said the symposium was organised to discuss how to make the new State Human Rights Commission a full fledged one. The programme attended by civil society organisations of both the hills and valley, made various recommendations on how to make the commission function well and protect the rights of the people. Former Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court, W.A Shishak, Senior Advocate Khaidem Mani, former Chief Minister, Radhabinod Koijam and leaders of various civil society organisations attended the programme.

Imphal, 16 July 2017 ( Evening News ) : The govt has been urged to frame a policy soon to protect and preserve the endangered Manipuri Pony. Co-ordinating Committee of Polo Clubs of Manipur has called for people's active cooperation to save the Manipuri pony. Addressing the journalists at  Manipur Press Club today, Chairman of the Co-ordinating Committee, Ningthoukhongjam Bedajit urged the govt to reserve grazing fields and habitat for the endangered animal. He cautioned that the Manipuri pony despite its significance in Manipur's civilisation is on the verge of extinction and might disappear sooner or later if serious measures are not taken to protect the animal.

Imphal, 16 July 2017 ( Evening News ) : Congress MLAs Kshetrimayum Biren and Paonam Brojen yesterday joined the BJP. Kshetrimayum Biren was the works minister in the previous Congress Government led by Okram Ibobi. The BJP Manipur Pradesh held a reception for the two Congress MLAs at its office at Nityaipat Chuthek late last night. Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren welcomed them to the party. Several Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and MLAs were present at the event. Four Councillors of Lilong Municipal Council and two office bearers of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, MPCC also joined the BJP. They are MPCC media cell chairman L. Memo and secretary P. Sashikanta. So far, eight Congress MLAs have joined the BJP.
