A woman has been shot dead by her husband at Kwakta Khuman Thongkhong under Moirang Police Station
Imphal, 29 June 2017 ( Evening News ) : In yet another unfortunate murder incident, a woman was shot dead by her husband last night. The incident occurred late last night between 11 to 12 midnight at Kwakta Khuman Thongkhong, Ward Number 18 under Moirang Police Station. The woman is identified as a 36 years old, Pukhrimayum Samila also known as Ibe, daughter of Jamaruddin. The husband is identified as a 46 years old Md Safiruddin, son of late Tolen Babu from Sangaiyumpham Cherapur in Thoubal District. Safiruddin is a former cadre of the banned militant outfit, PULF and currently works as a Rifleman in 8 Manipur Rifles. Ibe married Safiruddin 15 years ago and the couple now has a 13 year old daughter and an 8 year old son. She is his second wife. Ibe has been staying at her maternal home for about 8 years. According to locals, Ibe was physically assaulted. The husband even used knives and also hit her during nights. After a team of forensic experts inspected the body, it has now been taken to RIMS morgue. Member of JAC formed against her murder, Tayeb Ali said Safiruddin had been urging Ibe to return to Sangaiyumpham Cherapur, however Ibe did not want to go back due to abuses and violent incidences she had previously witnessed. He appealed the concerned authorities to arrest Safiruddin within 2 days and take stern actions against him. Tayab Ali also warned of intense agitations if the authorities fail to take appropriate actions
Police pelted smoke shell to control the situation as dispute continued between the police
Imphal, 27 June 2017 ( Evening News ) : Over 1 thousand men and women Home guards took out a protest rally organised by Manipur Home Guard Employees Welfare Association demanding to increase their duty allowance. The rally started from Home Guard station at Lamphel and headed towards CM Bungalow to meet Chief Minister, Biren. The rallyist passed through RIMS and came towards Uripok Overbridge under a strict security of Manipur Police to prevent any untoward incident. However they were stopped by the police personal in front of Pologround. A moment of Dispute continued between the police personnel and home guards on having stopped the home guards from proceeding forward. Later the police took 5 representatives of the Home Guard association including its President to meet the Chief Minister at CM Bangalow. Police pelted smoke shell to control the situation as dispute continued between the police and the remaining rallyists and later sent away towards Uripok.
CM says people's fight against emergency was the base for democracy
Imphal, 26 June 2017 ( Evening News ) : BJP Manipur Pradesh observed the “Black Day of Emergency” in remembrance of the emergency imposed on June 25th 975 by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. The party observed the day at the their office in Nityaipat Chuthek. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren said the revolt against emergency by people of the time laid the foundation for today’s democracy. He said people are the most important entity in a democratic country. He further stated that people of the hills and the valley now exist in peace and harmony because of the initiatives taken within 100 days of BJP-led Government. Gifts were presented to the families of forefathers who sacrificed their lives in the revolt against the challenge to democracy and to those who are still alive. Works Minister, Thongam Biswajit, party leaders and members attended the event.
Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the month-long fasting, celebrated by the Muslims across Manipur
Imphal, 26 June 2017 ( Evening News ): Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the month-long fasting, was celebrated by the Muslims across Manipur today. The occasion was celebrated at the Idgah in Lilong Hangamthabi. Mufti of the Idgah, Sabeer Shah wished for the chaos to end and hoped for a peaceful and prosperous society on the occasion. By fasting for a month, he asserted that people still follow the teachings of Mohammad that one must first go through pain in order to attain happiness. Sabeer Shah further said, Mohammad's teachings also include equal development of the rich and poor. The celebration was marked by offering prayers at mosques and idgahs, exchanging greetings, visiting friends and relatives, savouring special delicacies and exchanging pleasantries.
Rath Yatra festival began with pomp and gaiety in Manipur
Imphal, 25 June 2017 ( Evening News ) : Celebration of Kang also known as Rath Yatra festival began with pomp and gaiety in Manipur today. Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren along with his Council of Ministers and titular king, Leishemba Sanajaoba kicked off the festival. The idols of Shri Jaganatha, Shri Balarama and Shri Subhadra, replicas of the Lord Jagannatha, his brother Balarama and sister Subhadra of Puri, Orissa were drawn in the Rath (car) of Shri Jagannatha to begin the festival. On the occasion of the festival, the Chief Minister appealed to all to bring about peace and harmony among all communities of the state. People from different age groups thronged the Shree Shree Govindajee temple complex at Palace compound to take part in the event. There is popular belief that a person who participates in the Kang festival at the palace compound is warded off all the evils for a year. It may be recalled that Maharaj Gambhir Singh had begun the Kang festival in 1832 for the first time. The day is being observed since then. Once the Kangchingba of the palace is complete, locals of all parts of the state would perform Kangchingba. In the evening, khubak ishei will be performed at Lord Jaganath Mandop.
