Imphal, 29 August 2017 ( Evening News ) : Haipou Jadonang Statue Park Development Committee (HJSPDC) under the aegis of Zeliangrong Union Assam Manipur Nagaland organised a program to commemorate the 86th death anniversary of freedom fighter, Haipou Jadonang at Haipou Jadonang park in Keishampat, today. Speaking at the event, Nungba MLA  and Advisor of HJSPDC, Gaikhangam said, Haipou Jadonang was one of the great freedom fighters of the state who fought against British to get independence from the  foreign rule. He said, the present generation must not forget that both the hills and valley people should unitedly protect the state as it had been always since time immemorial.  Gaikhangam urged for a joint cooperation for a united motherland. Many people gathered at the event offered floral tributes at the statue of Haipou Jadonang and a 2 min silence was also maintained as a mark of respect to the Freedom Fighter. Gaikhangam further said, since time immemorial inhabitants of both the hills and valley have maintained a cordial relationship which many forces tried to disrupt. He urged the people to stand united like the freedom fighters of the state against all these forces of disintegration. He said it would be right to imbibe the ideals of our great freedom fighters instead of just paying floral tributes to them every year on their anniversaries.  Former Union Home Minister of State,  Meijin-lung Kamsom and Ex MLA of Sagolband Constituency, Kh. Loken were also present at the event.

Imphal, 27 August 2017 ( Evening News ) : Commemorating the historic agitation launched by students against the artificial food scarcity in the State on this day in 1965,All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) observed the 52nd Hunger Marchers’ Day today. Large number of students today took out a march rally in remembrance of “Chaklam Khongchat”. 4 student martyrs sacrificed their lives on this day in 1965 during the mass uprising against the artificial food scarcity caused by traders from outside the state exporting rice grains from the state. Since then, AMSU has been observing the day as the “Hunger Marchers’ day”. Large number of students gathered at the memorial site of the four student martyrs at Singjamei Chingmacha since early in the morning and began the observance with “Yakairol”. Commemorating the day, leaders of AMSU hoisted the flag of the student's union. Later family members of the students who sacrificed their lives, leaders of AMSU and students paid floral tributes to the portraits of the martyrs Oinam Nabakumar, Laishram Chaobal, Nongmeikapam Pramodini and Waikhom Nilamani. A march rally was then taken out from Moirangkhom road through Keishamthong, chanting various slogans under strict security of the Police personnel and converged on DM College Campus and held a public meeting at Multipurpose Hall of DM college.

Imphal, 25 August 2017 ( Evening News ) : Speaker Yumnam Khemchand and 3 MLAs today pledged to donate their eyes on the first day of the Eye Donation Campaign Fortnight. The campaign which is being held across the country from August 25 to 8 was inaugurated today at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen. The event was organised by Samdrushti Kshmata Vikash Evam Anusandhan Mandal under the sponsorship of  Cornea Andhatv Mukta Bharat Abhiyan (CAMBA). Speaker Y. Khemchand, Oinam MLA L. Radhakishore, Konthoujam MLA Sapam Ranjan and Sekmai MLA H. Dingo took the pledge to donate their eyes. and signed the forms at the launch of the campaign. The campaign is being held to rise awareness among the people to help change someone's life by pledging one's eyes for donation and educate the people about preventing blindness in the country. Speaking at the campaign the speaker stressed that people need to pledge their eyes for donation after death to gift sight to the people who are unable to see.

Imphal, 24 August 2017 ( Evening News ) : Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, MPCC held a condolence service for the former chief minister Rishang Keishing today at Congress Bhavan, BT road. Leaders and workers of the Congress party paid their last respect to the mortal remains of former chief minister. Former Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi, former deputy chief minister, Gaikhangam, Congress MLAs and several workers of the party offered floral tribute to the departed leader. The coffin of the late congress leader who was the member of the 1st Lok Sabha from 1952 to 1957 was draped in tricolour. The body was later taken to MBC Church, Chingmeirong where the Memorial Service Ceremony was conducted. Former Parliamentary Secretary and the youngest son of Rishang Keishing, Victor Keishing delivered a moving eulogy at the funeral. Several Congress leaders, Works Minister, Thongam Bishwajit, MLAs cutting across party lines, and many people took part in the ceremony. The body will be taken to his home in Mantripukhri for the final rites.

Imphal, 22 August 2017 ( Evening News ) : Services at public sector banks are hit as  employee unions are on a nationwide strike. Banks in Manipur today ceased work in support of strike against the proposed consolidation of public sector banks, inadequate capital support for banks and loan defaults by large borrowers. The strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella body of nine unions including the All Indian Bank Officers Confederation and All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA). Unions are demanding that banks should not write off non-performing assets (NPAs) and that wilful default be declared a criminal offence. In Imphal the strike was launched by the United Forum of Bank Union, Manipur State Committee in front of State Bank of India, SBI, MG Avenue. The protestors alos chanted slogans. Co-Convenor of Committee, Soibam Indrakumar said Bank is an institute that protects the property of the people. He said the savings of the people strengthen the banks and the banks in turn make the country stronger. He said India was not affected by the financial crisis in 2008 because India had Nationalised Sector Banking Industry. The Employees  condemned the steps of the government and asserted that people’s money should be utilised for people’s welfare.
