Manipur celebrates teachers day, Deputy chief minister Joykumar urges teachers and students to focus on academics
Imphal, 05 September 2017 ( Evening News ) : Manipur joined the nation in celebrating the teachers day to commemorate the birth day anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second president of India. Education dept organised the state level teachers’ day at Manipur state Film Development society auditorium, Palace Compound. The State teacher’s awards were also presented to 10 selected teachers on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar appealed the teachers and students to take an oath to focus on academics. While maintaining that the private schools could not compete with the Govt schools once upon a time, the deputy chief minister said it is high time all introspected as to why the Govt schools are lacking behind. He asserted that in the past, the relationship between teacher and student was good. Joykumar said students used to have great regards for their teachers and the teachers were proud of their profession. He also expressed the crying need to create an academic atmosphere in educational institutions by imparting both formal and informal education to the students.
In his speech Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam maintained that teachers play an important role in the growth of a society. He asserted that the education department is working to resolve the grievances faced by the teachers. The minister also said the Govt is aware of the inconveniences faced by teachers with regard to the transfer and posting policy. Radheshyam appealed to teachers to cooperate in achieving uniform education system in both the hills and valley. He reiterated that the education department is working towards developing Dhanamanjuri College into a cluster university and drafting a bill for Private schools and private tuition centres to bring about a change in the education system. The minister also asserted that plans are in place to carry out confidence building programmes like personality building activities, extra curricular activities at Govt schools. Chairman of Hills Area Committee, TT Haokip, MANITRON Chairman, DR Y. Radheshyam, Principal Secretary of Education (S), Commissioner of Higher and technical education, top officials of education department and students were attended the event. Green School Campaign awards were also presented to the selected master trainers on the occasion.
CM asserts that efforts are on to formulate a bill to save the indigenous people of the state which is acceptable to all communities
Imphal, 04 September 2017 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren has asserted that efforts are on to formulate a bill to save the indigenous people of the state which is acceptable to all communities living in the state. He made this statement to media persons at the sidelines of handing over of funds to the chief minister's relief fund at Chief Minister's secretariat today. All Manipur Elementary School Association, AMESTA handed over an amount of 3 Lakh 50 Thousand Rupees to the chief minister's relief fund. The chief minister appreciated all those who contributed to the relief fund and stated that majority of relief work for the flood affected people have been carried out. Responding to Impact News query on the renewed agitation by JCILPS, the chief minister said he is aware of the fact that JCILPS is drawing the attention of Govt. The process is delayed due to the works carried out under 100 days programme, frequent floods and assembly session. The Govt will now consult all stake holders and experts to formulate a bill that will not cause any conflicts among the communities. On the other hand, while replying to the assurances provided on the floor of the assembly that the shortcomings of Manipur Police Bomb Disposal Squad will be addressed, the chief minister maintained that the work will be carried out under the Police Modernisation. Although the funds will be released from planning, the state will soon carry out work even before the centre releases funds.
UCM has condemned the statements of interlocutor Dinesh Sharma that his visit to Manipur was for holding discussions with Kuki outfits under SoO
Imphal, 04 September 2017 ( Evening News ) : President of United Committee Manipur (UCM), Johnson Elangbam has decried of communal conspiracy upon the declaration made by interlocutor Dinesh Sharma that his visit to Manipur, yesterday was for holding discussions with Kuki outfits under Suspension Of Operation for ground assessment regarding how far their political aspirations can be fulfilled. He was speaking at the launch of an 8 month long celebration of 7th Ching-Tam Traditional Culture Festival-2017 starting from today organised by All Manipur Huiyen Lalong & Traditional Culture Preservation Committee at Rup Mahal Theatre, BT. Road. Johnson further said in the present situation of not making the Framework Agreement signed between the NSCN (IM) and Govt of India available to the public, the supposed to be appeasement effort by interlocutor, Dinesh Sharma with the Kuki outfits only fuel the apprehensions people have about Manipur’s disintegration. It would also create mistrust amongst various communities living in the state. He asserted if any untoward communal clashes occur in the state, Govt of India should be held responsible. Johnson said, the interlocutor’s hidden agenda which seems to uphold the Kuki outfits is strongly condemnable. He maintained that it would be right if the Manipur Govt approach Home Minister with a written application to clarify the matter. He also reiterated that UCM will stand against Manipur’s disintegration.
FIR filed against former CM Ibobi, 3 former CS, former project director and former administrative officer in MDS scam
Imphal, 02 September 2017 ( Evening News ) : An FIR has been filed against the former chief minister Okram Ibobi and five others at Imphal police station in connection with financial irregularities in Manipur Development Society, MDS. The five other persons are former chief secretaries DS Punia, PC Lamkunga and O. Nabakishore who were the former chairman of MDS, former project director Y. Ningthem, and former administrative officer S Ranjit. They are accused of cheating, criminal conspiracy and breach of trust following an investigation conducted by the vigilance department. It was alleged that the MDS officials and staff had not observed prescribed procedures, established norms and extant rules scrupulously and misappropriated more than Rs 185 crore. Officer in charge of Imphal police station has submitted to the SP Imphal west that all the relevant documents which are not available with MDS need to be recovered from Y. Ningthem as he was the project director. The Planning department approached the vigilance dept in November last year after a joint secretary level officer complained against mismanagement, misappropriation and misuse of govt funds in MDS.
A month-long 121th memorial observation of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat begins today
Imphal, 01 September 2017 ( Evening News ) : A month long 121st celebration of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot Memorial observation began today at GM Hall organised by Irabot Celebration Committee. Speaking at the inaugural programme, State Secretary of Communist Party Of India, Manipur State, Moirangthem Nara said Irabot took a great role in establishment of assembly and schools in the state. Irabot’s birth anniversary, death anniversary and ,the time he began his revolutions all fall in the month of September . Nara said the month long memorial celebration is to be held in memory of the contributions of the freedom fighter. He lamented that the society now seems to be opposite of what the leader worked for. He said many changes have come after Manipur joined India. However the changes are also not for the welfare of the society. He alleged that people are still not able to get the PDS items under National Foot Security Act which was taken up for the welfare of the people. He also alleged that ever since Government of India focused on Privatisation of Health and education sector, people cannot bear the expenses of health treatment and many students cannot afford education expenses. He said it is time to adopt the ideology of the leader to face these kind of difficulties.
Lamyanba Hijam Irawat Ningsing Thabum, a month-long Irawat memorial observation began today at Nungsikol Park under Lamlai constituency organised by Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur. As part of the observation, the places where statues of the freedom fighter are installed will be visited, “langban heisoi tamba” will be offered at Barak river and painting competition of Irawat’s portrait will be held. Executive Editor of Impact News, Raj Nongthombam ,Vice President of Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur Yaiskul Khwairakpam and Secretary of Smart Security Services, Leimajam Pratap were among those present at the inaugural programme of the event.
