Patients suffering from Hepatitis C to get free treatment in Manipur
Imphal, 13 May 2017 ( Evening News ) : Health and family welfare minister, L. Jayentakumar today announced a provision of free treatment of people suffering from Hepatitis C. The minister made the announcement at an event jointly organised by Health Department, Manipur State Aids Control Society and Yaswant Rao Gaitonde Centre for Aids Research Education (YRGCARE) at Hotel Classic Grande. The minister said it is the responsibility of the Government to make the state free of diseases and maintain a healthy society. He said the state govt appreciates and welcomes the proposal of Chennai based YRGCARE to provide free treatment to the people suffering from Hepatitis C. He assured that the govt will extend every possible help to make the program successfull. Jayentakumar said the govt gives priority to the health sector and will try to introduce the provision at the earliest. Additional Director of Health, Dr. S. Manikanta and Research Manager of YRGCARE, AK Srikrishnan were among those present at the event.
Petrol pumps will open as usual
Imphal, 12 May 2017 ( Evening News ) : All Manipur Petrol Pump Dealers Association has called off their closures of petrol pumps after reaching an understanding. Oil pumps have been asked to function as usual. The understanding was reached between the CAF & PD Minister, Karam Shyam and the Association at Old Secretariat today. Speaking to media persons, Minister Karam Shyam said the incident occurred due to misunderstanding amongst the two parties and that the decision of opening the pumps has been made in view of the inconveniences the public will face. Meanwhile both the minister and the association have refused to reply to Impact News query on the understanding that has been reached. It may be mentioned that the association has been demanding an apology from the director of CAF & PD with regards to the comments he made on raids carried out at the pumps.
Manipur Science Meet kicks off at National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, Akampat
Imphal, 11 May 2017 ( Evening News ) : Manipur Science Meet, 2017 kicked off today at National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology NIELIT, Akampat. The five day science meet is jointly organised by Manipur Science & Technology Council, NIELIT and 4 other organisations under the aegis of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Secretary of Science & Technology, Manipur and many others were present at the inaugural function. Speakers at the event pointed out that the state lacks in the field of Science research. Many people from Manipur are known world wide for their contribution in the field of science and technology. To bring about a development in the field of science, youths should be imparted with innovative thoughts and ideas. The speakers also blamed the education system of the state where students are busy only with academics which does not allow them to think of out of the box. As part of the event, State Science Communicator award was presented to Dr. Chungkham Indira, a teacher from Johnstone Higher Secondary School. Many students from over 20 educational institutes will showcase their projects at the science meet.
IED blasts at Lokchao leaves 2 dead 2 injured
Imphal, 08 May 2017 ( Evening News ) : 2 territorial army personnel have been killed and 2 others sustained injuries in 2 IED blasts around 5.30 this morning at Lokchao in Tengnoupal district. The victims are all from Manipur. The deceased personnel have been identified as Arjun Baral from Koubru Leikha in Kangpokpi District and Varesho Hungyo from Leishipung Khul in Senapati District. The injured are identified as Toijam Chandra Singh from Thangal Leikai in Churachandpur and Y. Govind Singh from Kakching. Sources from the spot informed that the territorial army of 165 Battalion were returning towards their post after patrolling. 2 IED Bombs exploded simultaneously in front and the rear of the army vehicle about 2 kilometres away from their post. Sepoy Arjun Baral was kiiled on the spot while Varesho succumbed to his injury at the SHIJA Hospital. Chandra and Govind are currently undergoing treatment at the 57 Mountain Division, military hospital, Leimakhong. The front mirror and body of the truck were damaged. Officials of Moreh Police and Assam Rifles inspected the blast site. A search was also conducted. It may be recalled that 3 Manipur police personnel had died and 9 sustained injuries in an ambush by unknown miscreants around the same area in Lokachao last december
Imphal west Narcotic Cell arrests 2 persons with 7 packets of WY tablet worth about 7 Lakhs Rupees
Imphal, 07 May 2017 ( Evening News ) : Imphal west Narcotic Cell have arrested 2 persons with 7 packets of WY tablet worth about 7 Lakhs Rupees from international market today during a drive. They have been identified as a 33 year old, Md Ithemchouba son of late Md Ajijur from Sora Mamang Leikai and Md Safiquer Rahaman son of Md Azizur Rahman from Sora Mayai Leikai. They were arrested near BD Pharmacy in Meitei leikai on National Highway number 2. The drive was conducted under the supervision of SP, Imphal West led by Additional SP (Law and Order) Priyadhashini Laishram and Inspector of Imphal West Narcotics Cell, Kangjam Ranjit
