Imphal, 1 may 2016 : One day media sensitisation workshop on crime against women with special reference to suicide cases/suspicious death of women in Manipur was held today at the classic hotel. The workshop organised by Women Action For Development aimed at seeking strategic suggestions and inputs from editors to improve criminal justice. Victims of crimes against women shared their testimony at the workshop. Resource persons spoke on ‘media report on suicidal cases’, ‘recent trend of suicide in Manipur and medical legal aspect’, ‘psychological aspect in suicidal cases, legal procedure/perspective on suicidal cases’ and role of NGOs in dealing with crime against women. Speaking to media persons secretary of WAD, Sobita Mangsatabam stated that 188 cases of crimes against women were reported from January till 29 April 2016. Death of 368 women was reported from 2011 till 2015 and most of the victims did not get justice till now. She also appealed to media persons to follow cases after reporting them in their newspapers for speedy delivery of justice.

Imphal, 1 May 2016 : Bhartiya Janata Party Ukhrul District  yesterday organised a one day Political Awareness Program at the Town Hall in Ukhrul District headquarters. Thangmeiband MLA Joykishan, BJP Spokesperson Soso Shaiza, former Minister Dr. Khashim Ruivah and Aza A. Shimrey and several other BJP leaders of Ukhrul District BJP dwelt on the development programs launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking on the occasion MLA Joykishan stated that Manipur cannot be developed without the development of hills. MLA also accused the Congress govt of neglecting the hills in its developmental programs and termed the indifference of the govt towards the hills as unfortunate. Joykishan also alleged that O Ibobi led congress govt is misappropriating huge amount of money sanctioned by the central govt for the welfare of the hill districts.

Imphal, 29 April 2016 : Shopkeepers in Paona bazar today closed their shops protesting against the police drive. Shopkeepers are protesting the assault of 2 salesmen and alleged forced closure of shops by Imphal Police personnel. The personnel allegedly closed the shops for not having lights outside their respective shops. Following the protest, Sagolband MLA R.K Imo rushed to the Paona Bazar and intervened in the matter. He spoke to the  agitating shopkeepers. MLA Imo gave assurance to the agitating shopkeepers that street lamps will be installed within 10-15 days. A team of police personnel led by Imphal West Commando OC Thungampou allegedly picked up a shopkeeper identified as Ajay Kar from Thangal Bazar who runs a shop at Paona Bazar for complaining to the MLA. Shopkeeper Ajay Kar had allegedly complained to the MLA that two salesman were physically assaulted by the team of commandos. Following the incident angry shopkeepers closed all the shops. The two assaulted salesmen are identified as Haobam Thoi from Sanjenbam and Amir from Kshetrigao.

Imphal, 25 April 2016 : Thunderstorm has caused extensive damage in many parts of Mayang Imphal last night. At least 50 houses were destroyed in Samushang Santipur, kokchai, Konchak, Anirongbi, Konchak Yangbi Benggun and Uchiwa. In Samushang Santipur  Community Hall, Primary School and Panchayat Bhawan were completely damaged. Trees and electric poles were uprooted. Education Minister Dr Khumujam Ratankumar visited the affected places along with officials to take stock of the situaton. THE minister assured help to people taking shelter relief camps.

Imphal, 19 April 2016 :  Chief Minister Okram Ibobi singh today welcomed sri sri Ravishankar to take part in talks if insurgent groups come for peace talks with the government. He said this after The Art of Living foundation founder Sri Sri ravishnakar said he is willing to take part in peace talks if insurgent groups come forward for dialogue with the government. He was speaking during the function of An Evening of Music and meditation held at BOAT. Chief Minister further said, he invites all the insurgent groups belonging to hills and the valley for talks. He also said there is solution for every problem. Attending the function were Deputy CM Gaikhangam, Speaker Th Lokeshwar Former CM Radhabinod Koijam top civil and police officials along with more than 500 people in attendance.

The founder of The Art of Living Foundation Sri Sri Ravishankar said if all the communities of the state comes together leaving their differences behind, the state would head towards a better and prosperous state. In an Exclusive interview with Impact News, Sri Sri Ravishankar further added it’s about time all the institutions trying to build a society with the help of guns and violence should drop their weapons and try to obtain their goals in a peaceful manner. Such unrest and chaos in the society holds back the state from progress and that there’s no place in the world where guns have brought progress. He also appealed the people to take part in the different courses of the Art of Living Foundation in order to maintain peace of mind.
