Keep Leishanghiden Clean’ campaign
Imphal, 12 April 2016 : ‘Keep Leishanghiden Clean’ campaign organised by Leisang Hiden Development Committee 2015-16 began today at Ibungohal-mani Bridge Point near Pal-ahanbi. The attendees of the opening ceremony also paid tribute to Angom Ibungohal-mani who conceptualised the idea to promote historic Leishang Hiden on his 71st death anniversary.
34 including 5 police personnel injured in the Mayang Imphal violence
Imphal, 12 April 2016 : 34 persons are injured in the violence that occurred at Mayang Imphal areas during Mayai Lambi bandh called against the death of two persons who were allegedly involved in the vehicle theft on April 7. 9 houses were also burnt in which Manipur Fire Service saved 8 houses from being completely burnt. Scuffles due to misunderstanding between the bandh supporters and the those who tried to stop vandalisation of vehicles led to the tension at Mayang Imphal Konchak. A jewellery shop and a house were also ransacked. Police had to resort to firing tear gas shells and bullets in the air to disperse the infuriated locals. Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West N Geoffrey and top police official rushed on the spot at around 2:30 in the afternoon and put the situation under control. Meanwhile, the authority has imposed indefinite curfew in Wangoi Sub-Division of Imphal West from 1 in the afternoon until further order.

Imphal, 12 April 2016 : 3 persons including a police personnel injured in the violence were brought to Shija Hospital. 2 civilians were identified as Thongam Birjit, 23, son of Th. Deven of Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai Thong-khong and Khumujam Ashajit, 30 son of Kh. Kulabidhu of Mayang Imphal Konchak. The police personnel has been identified as Heisanam Ranjit, 31 son of Krishnamohon of Samurou Mamang Leikai. All of them are hurt by spray bullets. One of the locals regretted the violence gripping the area and appealed for communal harmony.
District Magistrate, Imphal West imposes indefinite curfew in Wangoi Sub-Division; JAC appeals for communal harmony
Imphal, 11 April( Evening) 2016 : Imphal West district magistrate has imposed indefinite curfew in the Wangoi Sub division in relation to the ongoing tension in Mayang Imphal. The curfew began from 1 in the afternoon today.
JAC against Supporter of Theft at Sagai-sabi today appealed to all not to give communal colour to the incident of Sagai-sabi. Mentioned may be made that locals caught 3 persons who allegedly tried to steal a Honda Activa parked near a fish farm at Sagai-sabi under Mayang Imphal Police Station on April 7. Locals the handed the trio to police after thrashing them. Later, 2 of them reportedly died following which tension gripped the area. Speaking to media, JAC Secretary Naorem Brajakumar said there had been incidents of vehicle theft in the Mayang Imphal area due to which locals were frustrated. In the meantime, locals vented their anger following the attempt to steal the Honda Activa which belonged to Khangembam Ibungo of Mayang Imphal Thana Mamang. Naorem Brajakumar also added that items used for stealing vehicles were also recovered from them.
Union minister Giriraj Singh inaugurates Technology and Skill Development Centre on IBSD campus at Takyelpat
Imphal, 11 April 2016 : Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Giriraj Singh today inaugurated a Technology and Skill Development Centre on the campus of the Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development, IBSD at Takyelpat. In his inaugural address the union minister emphasised the role of scientists in the development of the nation's economy. Giriraj Singh assured that the centre would provide all possible help for the development of Manipur's economy. He also appealed to the people not to disturb the ecological balance in the name of development. The union minister maintained that the people should utilise the available technologies in the right way. He said the people need healthy food and safe drinking water but, they never bother about the ways to produce them. Giriraj Singh urged the students to properly utilise the skills they have learnt. The Minister also planted a cherry sapling on the campus.
