Imphal, 20 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : Authorities have started repair work on the road from Shree Shree Govindajee temple to Mahabali Kabui village in Imphal east district after Impact news highlighted the deplorable condition of the road on the 10th of this month. The road next to Maharaj Chandrakriti Auditorium remains under water throughout the year. Impact News reported the grievances facing the people who made a fervent appeal to the department concerned to repair the road as soon as possible. A week after the news report, measures to repair the road were taken under the supervision of Yaiskul MLA Thokchom Seityabrata. Impact News met the residents today who appreciated the initiative of the MLA and Impact news for highlighting their problems. Secretary of BJP Yaiskul Mandal, Choudhuimayum Alok Sharma who was supervising the repair work today told Impact news that the road which has remained ignored for the last 10 years will be constructed under the supervision of the MLA. He said the present work was taken to provide immediate relief to the people for the time being.

Imphal, 18 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : The state govt will generate 105 mega watt of electricity from solar energy. As part of Government of India’s target to generate one lakh Mega Watt Power from Solar Energy, the Government of Manipur is prepared to generate 105 Mega watt from solar energy. The Government in collaboration with National Hydro Electric Power Corporation has decided to set up a 50 Mega Watt solar power plant in Manipur. It has also taken the necessary measures to set up Roof Top Solar Energy as well as a unique solar park in Manipur. It may be mentioned that the  officials of the govt led by the Chief Secretary and officials of National Hydro Electrical Power Corporation (NHEPC) visited  Yaithibi Loukol in Thoubal District to see the site for the proposed 50 Mega Watt Solar Plant but the site was later rejected as it is low lying and hilly shade. Chief Secretary, O. Nabakishore said the solar Energy Power Plant will be set up at a suitable site within 6 months.

Imphal, 17 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : Old Age pensions sponsored by Social Welfare Department were distributed for pensioners of Keirao constituency at Khagemba Macha Ibungo Laibung, Kyamgei under the guidance of Parliamentary Secretary, IFCD and Keirao MLA, L. Rameshower Meitei today. 5 month Old Age pension of 200 Rupees per month was distributed to 1400 elderly persons between the age of 60 to 79 years as per National Social Assistance Program (NSAP) Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension scheme.

Imphal, 17 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : IFCD Minsiter Letpao Haokip, Revenue Minister, Karam Shyam and Chief Engineer of IFCD inspected the Chandranadi river under Langthabal constituency today. They inspected the Chandranidi river bank from Lilong bridge till Tarahei Pallak and Turel Amanbi that passes through Manipur University and Lihakhong Machin. The team of ministers were also informed about the issues facing the locals during floods. Later, speaking to media persons, IFCD Minister Letpao Haokip said they have found a lot of issues by the Chandranadi river bank and that steps will be taken up by meeting with the top officials of the department concerned. The minister also said a committee has been constituted under his leadership with regards to the Flood Land Zoning Act 1978 and steps have already been taken up to reduce the inconveniences during floods.

Speaking on the occasion, Revenue Minister, Karam Shyam said those who have illegally encroached upon the banks of the river, thereby blocking the river flow, will be evicted at the earliest. He appealed the local MLA and the public to extend support in the process. The minister made it very clear that the current Government will not encourage exchange of land for their personal gains. Chief Engineer of IFCD, Ksh Pritam assured the people of repairing the banks of Chandranadi river at the earliest.

 

Imphal, 16 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : IFCD & YAS minister Letpao Haokip said the Govt is thinking of an alternative means to provide a source of income to people who cultivate poppy to earn their livelihood so that they give up poppy cultivation. He said the State Government has agreed in principle to replace poppy with lemongrass cultivation. The minister was addressing people including leaders of Church and village chiefs at Aihang village in Chandel district yesterday.  He said the Govt is determined to provide an alternative livelihood to poppy cultivators and appealed to the chiefs and leaders of the area to attend awareness and sensitisation programme to be held shortly in Imphal. He also said clearance of large forest areas for poppy cultivation caused soil erosion. The Minister also inspected the site for a mini-stadium at Aihang village to be built under NLCPR.
