Imphal, 11 April 2017 (Evening News ) : State remembers late Maharaja Narasingh on his 167th death anniversary. Manipur State Archaeology, Department of Art & Culture observed the ocassion at Kangla today. Rich tributes were paid at the Grave of the late Mahajara. Manipur Rifles contingent honoured the Maharaja with a gun salute. MLA P. Saratchandra and others offered tarpon at the Nungjeng pond in Kangla and prayed for the Maharaja Narasingh’s soul to rest in peace. Sankritan was also performed infront of the Uttra shanglen. Speaking on the occasion, P. Saratchandra reminded the people of Maharaja Narasingh’s contribution in trying to have a smooth and peaceful administration in the state and in the integration of Manipur
JCILPS to host a joint meeting of the hills & valley
Imphal, 10 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : Convenor of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Arjun Telheiba has stated that there will be a meeting between the representatives of both the hill and valley to put an end to the misunderstanding created between the two communities by the ILP issue. Addressing media persons at their office in Kwakeithel Takhel Leikai, Arjun Telheiba further said people both in the hills and the valley have lost their lives by the ILP issue. He said a misunderstanding has been created by the issue and feared that the ILP issue will go off track. The JCILPS convenor assured to take steps towards resolving the misunderstanding at the earliest. On the other hand he also appealed the new Government to bring about a solution at the earliest. Arjun Telheiba also said the JCILPS will keep a close watch over the activities of Jiribam MLA, Assab Uddin, who is part of the Govt despite a ban on non locals contesting elections unless ILP bill is passed in the state. He said although Assab Uddin is not an indigenous citizen, he has been living in the state before the base year, 1951 and is a Constitutional citizen, thereby being protected by the law, hence no actions can be taken against him.
Government all set to acquire land for up-gradation of Kangchup - Tamenglong road
Imphal, 10 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : 5 day Public hearing on Acquisition of Land for the construction of Kangchup Tamenglong road for up gradation of roads from Uripok Kangchup till Tamenglong by PWD with funds from Asian Development Bank began today. State Social Impact Assesment Unit, Directorate of Environment organised the first public hearing of the villages of 95 Taothong and 105 Lamdeng Khunou at Lamdeng Community Hall today. The next four hearings will be held at Cultural Hall Phayeng, Lairenkabi Dramatic Hall, Heibongpokpi Lai Haraopham Hall and Samusang Community Hall. Retired, DSO Revenue Md Abdul Salam, president of Lamsang Pana Sanalup, RK Ranendrajit, Taothong Nagar Panchayat member of Ward No 9, Chingthang Khomba and the affected villagers attended the hearing. Deputy director, Directorate of Environment, T Brajakumar said the state government has given them the task to file a detailed report on how far the land acquisition will affect the land owners and the environment. He said they were able to meet 80 percent of the land owners and that they welcomed the acquisition, however they appealed for transparency while providing compensation.
'Valour Day’ observed by CRPF to pay respect to brave CRPF personnel who sacrificed their lives for the country
Imphal, 09 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : ‘Valour Day’ was observed at CRPF group centre at Langjing to pay respect to the brave CRPF personnel who sacrificed their lives for the country. Valour Day is observed in remembrance of an act of unparalleled bravery displayed by a small contingent of CRPF personnel, pitted against a full-fledged infantry brigade of Pakistani Army, trying to overrun their post, at Sardar Post, Rann of Kutch, Gujarat on April 9, 1965. They not only defeated the Pakistani brigade but also killed 34 enemy soldiers and captured four of them. Speaking to Impact News, IGP Manipur-Nagaland sector, Vikram Sehgal emphasised the role of CRPF in maintaining peace in the state. He also said CRPF played a vital role in the peaceful conduct of the 11th Manipur Assembly elections. Vikram Sehgal appealed to the youth of the state to join CRPF and lead a quality life and also help in safeguarding the state.
As part of the observance, IGP, Vikram Sehgal presented mementos to CRPF Officer, a Head Constable and 12 other CRPF Jawans. Assistant Commandant, Thonglen-Lal Haokip, who won a Police Gallantry Medal in 2013 and is currently in charge of Communication, Manipur-Nagaland Sector said the recognition given to them on this day motivate them to serve the nation.
Former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam asserts the 15-year-rule of Congress will occupy an important place in history
Imphal, 09 April 2017 ( Evening News ) : Nungba MLA and former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam today asserted that the 15-year Congress rule under Okram Ibobi will always occupy an important place in the history of Manipur. Speaking at the 47th foundation day celebration of National Student’s Union of India (NSUI), Manipur State at Congress Bhawan, Gaikhangam said a non-congress Govt in the state after 15 years is a great challenge to the congress party. He said the congress came to power in 2002 and for 15 years it provided a stable government and did its best for the development of the state. The congress MLA described the long rule as a rare incident and insisted that it will be etched in the memories of the people for a long time. He claimed that the BJP led Govt will not be able to provide good governance in the state. Gaikhangam also expressed apprehensions that Manipur will be in a mess under the BJP led Govt. He said the BJP should not engage in political propaganda but try to translate their promises into action. Taking advantage of the function, the former deputy chief minister also appealed to the Govt to not treat the women vendors mercilessly and to resolve vendor issue through talks. Bishnupur MLA, Govindas Konthoujam, executive members of MPCC and volunteers of NSUI Manipur State attended the function.
