Imphal, 16 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : Scrutiny of the nominations for the first phase of the 11th Manipur Legislative assembly elections is going on in various districts. Candidates were seen coming to the offices of the returning officers with their supporters. In Imphal east scrutiny began at 10am and candidates of 22 constituencies were present during the scrutiny. Several roads in the district witnessed traffic jam as candidates of different political parties and their supporters came to the office of the DC Imphal east at Porompat. Traffic movement was restricted for the public at Porompat traffic island. Officials and media persons only were allowed to go the road leading to the DC office. The scrutiny will go till 4pm.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, the congress candidate in Thoubal today filed his nomination papers.

Today is the last day for filing of nominations for the second and final phase of Manipur assembly elections. Twenty two of the 60 constituencies in the state will go to polls in the second phase on March 8. Scrutiny will take place tomorrow, while the withdrawal of candidature can be done till Monday.  38 Assembly segments will go to polls in the first phase on the 4th of next month. A total of 215 candidates had filed their nominations till Tuesday. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till Saturday.

Imphal, 16 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : BJP Manipur Pradesh has demanded speedy trial of pending cases including Robinhood murder, fake encounter and Imphal Airport Drug seizure. BJP spokesperson and former minister Nongthongbam Biren told the media in a press meet held early this morning at the BJP office at Nityaipat Chuthek that the non trial of the long pending cases has violated the rights of the people. He said the BJP welcomes the reopening of the Sanjeet and Rabina fake encounter case by the CBI after an appeal made by the mother of Sanjeet. Biren maintained that the Supreme Court has declared 1528 Fake Encounter cases which occurred behind the armed forces special powers act, AFSPA. He also urged for filing of FIR by police against those cases FIR were not registered before the Supreme court hearing scheduled for April 18,19 and 20. The BJP leaders demanded the govt to declare the progress of Robinhood Case.

Former Wangkhei MLA and BJP spokesperson Y. Erabot demanded to know the progress of the case regarding the seizure of a large quantity of drugs at Imphal international airport in case in 2013. He said it should be made public. Irabot also said if the investigation team was sincere in their effort the case would have been resolved by now. He alleged that the two involved in the case have been given protection by the chief minister. It may be mentioned that  Luwangsangbam Apunba Nupi Lup yeasterday staged sit-in demanding punishment for those involved in Fake Encounter cases and airport Drug case.

Imphal, 14 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : Locals today seized 13 kg of herion number 4 from two women in Sekmaijin Thongam under Mayang Imphal police station. Women of the area and secretary of the local club caught the two women along with the drug. They are identified as  Tinkholam Baite and Choichang from Churachandpur. Sources said the two women were seen together with two Muslim men this morning around 9 behind Balika Junior High School in Sekmaijin Thongam. After the two persons left, the club members saw the two women putting some packets into their bags. They became suspicious and locals approached them and checked their bags. The locals found 13 packets of heroin number 4 in their bags. They set the drug on fire and handed over the two women to Mayang Imphal police station.

Imphal, 14 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : Convener of BJP Manipur Pradesh State Election Management Committee, Thounaojam Chaoba asserted  that a balanced development of the hills and valley will bring peace in Manipur. Speaking at the flag hoisting of BJP candidate in Nungba, Vice President of BJP Manipur Pradesh, Adim Pamei at Khoupam Valley yesterday the BJP leader said blockade on National highways should be prevented first in the valley if the blockades on national highways in the hills are to be checked. Chaoba accused the state govt of misappropriating central funds for the development of hills in the state. He reiterated that if the BJP wins the upcoming assembly elections Manipur will be free from bandh, blockade and corruption. It may be mentioned that Adim Pamei is pitted against deputy chief minister Gaikhangam.

Imphal, 13  February 2017 ( Evening News ) : Union Minister, Prakash Javadekar has launched 20 vehicles with the slogan “Vote for Change,Vote for BJP” inscribed on it, to be used in the upcoming 11th Manipur Assembly Election. 5 vehicles have been put on wheels in the presence of media persons at BJP office in Natyapat Chuthek today.The vehicles have Audio -Visual Record Load Speaker for publicity purpose. The audio- visual will highlight the plight of the people in the 15 yrs old congress rule in the state. The vehicles will be on wheels in the interior parts of the state and address the various problems and issues in the state.Among the video records, one is shows the discrepancies in the expenditure utilised in the construction of  Bishnupur Mini-Secretariat by the ruling Congress government. It also shows the various incomplete Multipurpose Dam and Projects, Fake encounter cases suppressed by the ruling government , and the improper disposal of the  facilities provided under Food Security Act of India to the people of Manipur. The Video record highlights the various indiscrepancies in the management of public expenditure by the ruling Congress government since the past 15 yrs. Speaking on the occasion Union Minister, Prakash Javadekar said Bharatiya Janata Party has taken up the steps with authorisation from the right officials for bringing about change and development and harmony for the people of Manipur.
