Imphal, 07 March 2017 ( Evening News ) : The stage is set for the second and last phase of the 11th Manipur assembly elections tomorrow. Voters in 22 constituencies will decide the fate of 98 candidates including congress heavyweights chief minister Okram Ibobi, deputy chief minister Gaikhangam and first time candidate Irom Chanu Sharmila of Peoples' Resurgence and Justice Alliance, PRJA. The 22 constituencies are spread across 5 districts including Thoubal, Ukhrul, Chandel, Tamenglong and Senapati. The voting will start at 7 AM at 1,151 polling stations amid tight security. The Election Commission has deployed 280 companies of central forces for peaceful, free and fair conduct of the elections. The elections in Manipur this time are billed as a crucial test for the 15-year-old Congress regime which is facing a stiff challenge from the BJP. The other important issues exercising the minds of voters are the alleged lack of development, massive corruption, misappropriation of funds and worsening law and order situation in the state. Counting of votes will be done on Saturday.

Imphal, 06 March 2017 ( Evening News ) : High Court of Manipur has declared United Naga Council’s ongoing economic blockade as illegal. The declaration was made on march 3 by a full bench of Manipur High Court comprising of Chief Justice R.R. Prasad, N. Kotiswar  and Kh. Nobin. The Court also gave direction to the State government’s District Magistrates  to take up strong measures on National Highways 2 and 37 at GOC-57 Mountain Division like imposition of  144 curfews under Cr.PC when large group of people gather as well as to ensure passage of minimum 15-20 convoys in a month in order to facilitate convenient passage of goods vehicles. It maybe mentioned that Manipur High Court has been handling the case of UNC’s Economic blockade since the past 3 month. Manipur High Court has also given direction to the Central Government to send in better 72 Security Company to guard the National Highways. The Court maintained UNC’s imposition of Economic Blockade to satisfy their political wish at the cost of miseries of the people has never been in the interest of the State but has caused hindrances to the State’s developmental works and progress. It says UNC’s Economic Blockade is declared  illegal under Supreme Court’s decision

Imphal, 02 March 2017 ( Evening News ) : Polling Station Officers for the first phase of the Assembly election today turned violent and vandalised the office of the DC, Imphal West. The incident occurred after the poll officers were refused Postal Ballot Papers. As per the order issued by DC, Imphal West, Ballot Papers  were distributed  at around 10 am to the Polling Station Officers in this district, today. However, the returning officers suddenly issued an order asking the officers to cast their votes at Linthoingambi Hall. But the officers demanded Postal Ballot Papers objecting the order. They damaged the doors and windows of the office. Timely intervention by Additional S.P, Imphal West, Dr. S. Ibomcha brought the situation under control. A meeting was held between the election polling officers and DC Imphal West. Later ballot papers were  distributed to the poll officials

Imphal, 28 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : A Remote Controllable IED Bomb was found at the house gate of CPWD Sub Contractor Sapam Nandalal, son of Sapam Sanatomba at Bashikhong Torban in Thongju Constituency, today. Nandalal suspects the bomb planted to have some sort of connection with this upcoming election. He said persons identifying themselves as members of RC Group last evening threatened twice over mobile phones of undue consequences if they canvass votes for the Congress party. He also said 2 months back the unlaw outfit PREPAK expressed their desire of holding talks. The bomb was found early this morning by his mother at their house gate. Bomb Disposal Squad of Manipur Police meticulously defused the bomb and kept it away. Police also recovered 100gm of IED Explosives, Remote Control Circuit Board and a Battery from the spot

Imphal, 28 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : National President of BJP, Amit Shah asserted the 15 years of corrupted Congress Government does not have the right to retain.  Amit Shah made the statement at the political campaign of three BJP candidates,Nemcha Kipgen, Haokholet Kipgen amadi Paojalet Taothang  from Sadar Hill  held in connection with the upcoming election at Thomas Ground,Kangpokpii District Headquarters. He continued if the people hand over the government to BJP, there will be equal development in both the hills and the valley. He said the Congress govt’s trying to instil hatred amongst the communities must stop immediately. Assam MP, RP Sharma, Finance Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP State Unit President, Kh. Bhavananda were among those present at the event. Speaking to media persons at the end of the campaign, Amit Shah maintained BJP will get absolute majority in the upcoming election and will form the new government
