Imphal, 28 March 2016 : Compared to previous year the number of road accidents during Yaoshang festival was less this year. In Imphal East a single case of road mishap was reported in the last five days and one case of casualty was admitted to JNIMS at Porompat. According to JNIMS Police Picket there was no report of accidents in the last days except the one reported on the first day of Yaoshang. In contrast, Imphal-West reported 70 cases of road mishap involving two-wheelers and two deaths in accidents. Sources said this year no major accident was reported in Imphal West district. Manipur police had taken elaborate measures to prevent road accidents and other untoward incidents. Today many youngsters were seen enjoying the last day riding two wheelers in Greater Imphal areas. In many places young boys and girls threw colour water on the people on the road and put colours. Meanwhile police and traffic personnel booked the traffic violators and imposed fine on them. It may be mentioned that the traffic police has collected a considerable amount as fines during the drive against traffic violators during the festival.
