Imphal, 23 September 2016 ( Evening News ): At least 59 non-locals were caught and the vehicle in which they were travelling was damaged. The incident occurred last night around 10 on National Highway 37, Imphal-Jiribam Road near Sagolband Salam Leikai. The local people along with club members stopped and checked a Cruizer coming from Jiribam and found that 35 non-local passengers were travelling in the vehicle. Another 3 Tata Sumo vehicles carrying non-local passengers were also stopped. 24 non-locals were travelling in the three Tata Sumo. The vehicles were vandalised by the angry locals and club members. A team of Imphal Police Station took the 59 non-locals to police station for verification. It may be mentioned that JCILPS has banned entry of non-locals to the state from today as the govt failed to introduce a bill to protect indigenous people by Sept 21. JCILPS yesterday demanded govt to introduce a bill within 7 days failing which they will impose curfew at govt offices, storm MLA residences and intensify agitation.

Imphal, 22 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Acting Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur, Rakesh Ranjan Prasad took oath as Chief Justice today. Governor Najma Heptulla administered the oath of office to the new Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur at Raj Bhawan Darbar Hall. Rakesh Ranjan Prasad is the third Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur first being Abhay Manohar Sapre followed by Laxmikant Mohapatra. In February 2016, Justice Rakesh Ranjan Prasad was transferred from Jharkhand High Court to High Court of Manipur. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Congress Ministers, Chief Secretary, top govt and police officials along with High Court of Manipur officials. Speaking to media persons persons Chief Justice Rakesh Ranjan Prasad said it is necessary to spread legal awareness among the masses as majority of people are not aware of legal rights.

Imphal, 20 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Rural Development and Panchayati Raj minister Moirangthem Okendro yesterday urged the centre to provide 100 percent funding for Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana, PMGSY to the north eastern states of the country which do not have resources. Speaking at the Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Ministers Conference at Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara in Assam yesterday Okendro said state like Manipur which is without resources, face problems to share the 10 percent state matching share, SMS. Union Rural Development Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar chaired the conference. Minister Okendro also said the state plans to construct 392 roads under the 11th phase of PMGSY. For this the Ministry has approved  Rs. 2492. He said the length of  roads to be constructed under the 11th Phase is 3385 Km. He maintained that the state will not be able to contribute its share of the Rs. 2492 crore approved by the Ministry.

Imphal, 20 September 2016 ( Evening News ): Union Minister of State, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Chhotu Ram Chaudhary arrived in Imphal on a one day visit to the state today. On his arrival at the Imphal international airport this morning the union minister told reporters that he is in Imphal to discuss implementation of the National Food Security Act with the state Government and other issues facing the state. The union minister he will meet the officials of Food Corporation of India and Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution dept to share the difficulties facing the state in effective implementation of the National Food Security Act. Chhotu Ram Chaudhary also told the media that he would discuss various problems like the connectivity and report then to the govt of India.

Imphal, 18 September 2016 ( Evening News ) : Political activities in the state has geared up with the arrival of three national leaders of All India Congress Committee today. The visit comes after Bharatiya Janata Party National leader Amit Shah challenged the Congress-led govt that BJP will form the next govt by winning 2/3 majority four days back on Sept 14. All India Congress Committee Secretary and Rajya Sabha Member Avinash Pandey; AICC general secretary Dr. CP Joshi, in charge of the North East Affairs; All India Congress Committee Secretary Lashmi Parsad Sadho arrived at the Imphal International Airport at 11 am. Sagaloband MLA RK Imo, Kakching MLA Y. Surchandra Singh, Yairipok MLA K. Meghachandra Singh, Manipur Mahila Congress Committee members along with party workers received the leaders at the airport. Speaking  Exclusively to Impact News, Dr. CP Joshi the objective of the visit is to understand the political situation in Manipur and to interact with the party workers. The leaders will attend a meeting at the Congress Bhavan today.
