Non-local couple shot at by unknown assailants in Moreh, man dies while the wife is fighting for life at Shija hospital
Imphal, 30 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : A non-local man died while his wife is admitted in critical condition at Shija Hospital after unidentified assailants fired at them in Moreh last night. The incident occurred when two unidentified persons on a two-wheeler fired several rounds at Dharmendra Kumar @Aju, age 40, owner of an electronic shop at Sun Rise Club, Moreh Ward No. 4 and his wife Chandra Devi, age 34 around 7.30pm yesterday. Dharmendra Kumar was hit in the upper chest and abdomen while his wife Chandra Devi was hit in chest and left arm. Both the injured husband and wife were rushed to Moreh Hospital where they were given first aid. Later both of them were brought to Imphal in two private vans. Dharmendra Kumar succumbed to his injuries near Tengnoupal while his wife is admitted at ICU in Shija Hospital. Meanwhile a team of Moreh Police and Commando conducted search operation in Moreh yesterday where the incident took place. Speaking to media persons, Tamil Sangam Assistant Secretary, Mohan appreciated Assam Rifles for helping them at the need of hour by providing ambulance till Moreh Hospital. Condemning the incident Mohan demanded govt to provide an ambulance so that people of Moreh do not suffer at time of an emergency.
Chief minister Ibobi stresses role of library, says govt is trying to provide benefit of library in all districts
Imphal, 30 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Chief minister Okram Ibobi today stressed the importance of library in every person's life. He also said the govt has been trying to provide benefits of library to the people in all districts. The chief minister today inaugurated the new building of Imphal Public Library at Uripok Sorbon Thingel. Ibobi also urged the people to extend cooperation to make the library grow and serve the needs of the people. He said library has been giving knowledge to the people from generation to generation and the importance of library cannot be ignored. Ibobi mentioned that people now can read books with the help of internet on Computer and mobile and this has led to less people visiting library. The chief minister also said the government has established library in all the districts of the state to avail the benefit of library to the people. He also assured the people that the govt will provide all possible help to Imphal Public Library. The library was built with the Local Area Development fund of Uripok MLA L. Nandakumar and contribution of the people.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs - Kiren Rijiju, will arrive at Imphal tomorrow.
Imphal, 29 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Union Minister of State for Home Affairs - Kiren Rijiju, will arrive at Imphal tomorrow on a 2 day visit. He will celebrate Diwali with the jawans of IGAR South, Mantripukhri and CRPF Langjing. As part of his visit, Kiren Rijiju will also attend a BJP meeting at kalapahar Junior High School Ground in Senapti Dist. In the meeting, he will also interact with the aspiring BJP candidates, members of the ADC and members of the Mandal regarding the upcoming Assembly election, stated State BJP President Kshetrimayum Bhabananda. According to a Reliable source, the Minister may also discuss the recent attack on the chief minister in Ukhrul with the heads of Assam Rifles. Kiren Rijiju will also attend the “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” at IGAR South on the 31st of October.

Imphal, 29 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Amidst tight security in view of Diwali, goubudon puja and Ningol chakouba, a bomb exploded in Khwairamband bazaar around 7.30 this morning. The bomb went off at MG Avenue near Majorkhul gate. It was planted in between Gupta Auto Corporation and Jaiswal store. No one was injured in the explosion that took place in the wee hours when there were very few passerbys, however a Red color Verna bearing Registration number MNO 1G 0999 was severely damaged. The vehicle belongs to Zubair Alam, aged 30, originally from Muthihari District, east champaran in Bihar and currently residing in MG avenue. The window glasses of the first floor and the second floor of the Gupta Auto Corporation building was also damaged. These two floors are being used as a Godown by the Gupta Auto Corporation. A team of Imphal West police lead by the SP inspected the blast site.
Father of social work, Thounaojam Iboyaima no more, he was 99 years old
Imphal, 28 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Thounaojam Iboyaima, popularly known as the father of social work is no more. He passed away last mid-night around 1 at RIMS. He was 99, just 5 days short of 100 years. Thounaojam Iboyaima was actively involved in movement to achieve statehood for Manipur and other movements to bring about a better change in the state. He died of old age related ailment. Representatives of various Civil Society Organisations and individuals came to his house at Singjamei Thongam Leikai to condole his death. Floral tributes were offered at the mortal remains of the social worker. Thounaojam Iboyaima, was born on November 2, 1916 at Singjamei Thongam Leikai. He was founder member of Singjamei Girls School, Singjamei Boys School and Manipur College. He joined politics in 1958 and was President of All India Socialist Party Manipur Branch. He was jailed for 7 months in 1960 in connection with statehood movement. During his lifetime Thounaojam Iboyaima was awarded NIM Award by Educational Guide Centre, Volunteer Award by International Volunteers Day State Celebration Committee and Dr. Iboyaima Cultural Harmony Award 2014 Lifetime Award by The Cultural Forum Manipur. All Manipur Ethnical Socio Cultural Organisation declared him father of Social Worker in 1999. In 2002 Integrated Manipuri Association, Bangladesh gave him the title Manipuri Bandhu. Thounaojam Iboyaima was the chief advisor of All Manipur United Clubs Organisation and Irabot Foundation Manipur.
