Imphal, 28 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Thounaojam Iboyaima, popularly known as the father of social work is no more. He passed away last mid-night around 1 at RIMS. He was 99, just 5 days short of 100 years. Thounaojam Iboyaima was actively involved in movement to achieve statehood for Manipur and other movements to bring about a better change in the state. He died of old age related ailment. Representatives of various Civil Society Organisations and individuals came to his house at Singjamei Thongam Leikai to condole his death. Floral tributes were offered at the mortal remains of the social worker. Thounaojam Iboyaima, was born on November 2, 1916 at Singjamei Thongam Leikai. He was founder member of Singjamei Girls School, Singjamei Boys School and Manipur College. He joined politics in 1958 and was President of All India Socialist Party Manipur Branch. He was jailed for 7 months in 1960 in connection with statehood movement. During his lifetime Thounaojam Iboyaima was awarded NIM Award by Educational Guide Centre, Volunteer Award by International Volunteers Day State Celebration Committee and Dr. Iboyaima Cultural Harmony Award 2014 Lifetime Award by The Cultural Forum Manipur. All Manipur Ethnical Socio Cultural Organisation declared him father of Social Worker in 1999. In 2002 Integrated Manipuri Association, Bangladesh gave him the title Manipuri Bandhu. Thounaojam Iboyaima was the chief advisor of All Manipur United Clubs Organisation and Irabot Foundation Manipur.
