All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) has demanded the state Govt to announce United Naga Council (UNC) as an unlawful organisation.
Imphal, 14 November 2016 ( Evening News ) : Demanding fuel for journalist in Manipur, a sit in was held today at Manipur Press Club, Major Khul. President All Manipur Working Journalist Union, Wangkhemcha Shyamjai has demanded the state Govt to announce United Naga Council (UNC) as an unlawful organisation. Placards like, No Petrol No News, We are Out of Ink, Home Department Arrange Security Patrol for Convoy, Be Responsible Government, UNC Lift Economic Blockade, etc were displayed. President of AMWJU, Wagkhemcha Shyamjai said that the indefinite economic blockade by the UNC is unjustified and he appealed the state govt to tale actions against them. The blockade has caused a lot of pain to the common man. Prices of essential commodities and other items have sky rocketed. Since there are no more petrol stock, it has caused inconveniences to the journalists in their jobs. He also said, if this trend continues, media will be unable to provide news..........
SBI and UBI Head offices in the heart of Imphal city has been overcrowded
Imphal, 14 November 2016 ( Evening News ) : Banks across Manipur has been witnessing increased number of crowd on a daily basis. People have been lining up at banks since early morning to deposit or withdraw cash. Men and women have been lining up in banks across Imphal. Although few banks outside Imphal did not witness a big crowd, SBI and UBI Head offices in the heart of Imphal city has been overcrowded. Huge number of people were seen at these head offices, to deposit and exchange cash. News also came in from other districts of people overcrowding the banks
Oil pumps in Imphal runs dry due to UNC's blockade on National Highways; petrol available at Rs 150 to 200 per litre in black market
Imphal, 11 November 2016 ( Evening News ) : Due to the indefinite economic blockade called by the United Naga Council (UNC) on National Highways, Oil pumps in and around Imphal has been closed. Although there were long queues across oil pumps a few days back, they have now been shut down since they are out of stock. However, petrol is still available in the black market at Rs 150 to 200 per litre. Number of private vehicles plying on the road has reduced. It may also be recalled that, All Manipur School Students’ Transport Association had already made an announcement to stop the school van service from today.
Union Health & Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda announces setting up of Rs 45 crore Tertiary Cancer Care Unit soon at JNIMS
Imphal, 11 November 2016 ( Evening News ) : Union Health & Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda announced the setting up of a Rs 45 crore Tertiary Cancer Care Unit soon at JNIMS. He was speaking at a one day workshop on “Dissemination of Information on Programme and Schemes Run by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare” organised by State Health Society National Health Mission at City Convention Centre. Union Minister JP Nadda stated that prior to the setting up of a Tertiary Cancer Care Unit, 20 beds in Neo-natal Intensive Care unit and total number of beds at JNIMS will also be increased. The Union minister also stressed on the importance of elected members to make sure that the healthcare schemes and programmes of the Indian Government reaches the needy. He said if the schemes of National Health Mission, like free medical treatment for the poor, free medicines, don’t reach them, it will create a gap between the Govt and the people. He said a list of free medicines should be published at District Hospitals, Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centre under this scheme for public consumption. The Union Minister said under the Programme Implementation Plan, centre will also provide all healthcare necessities to the state. With an aim to improve the Health Sector in the entire North East region, Centre will contribute 90% of the cost and state will have to bear just 10% under the Schemes of the Indian Government. Speaking at the occasion, State Health Minister D. Korungthang spoke about the healthcare work undertaken by the sate govt.
Banks overcrowded as people came in large numbers to deposit old and exchange new currency notes
Imphal, 10 November 2016 ( Evening News ) : Crowded scenes and long lines were witnessed at many banks of the state as people out came in large numbers to deposit old and demonetised 500 & 1000 rupee notes and also to exchange with 100 rupees notes. A large number of people thronged the banks as all the banks remained closed yesterday. Most of the people came to deposit and exchange the money for day to day use and purposes. Though it has been maintained that money can be deposited and exchanged from the banks and post offices only, no exchange of money took place in post offices. Many returned dejected as notice board mentioned that no money can be exchange at post offices till tomorrow. Exchange of money at post offices winds up after 11am today as currency notes were exhausted. However customers can exchange money at post offices further as soon as money reached from the banks.
