Imphal, 16 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : Women of Khwairamband bazar took out a Rally today demanding removal of NSCN-IM from Manipur and in protest against the twin ambush in Tengnoupal yesterday that left 3 police personnel dead and 8 injured. They have also called for a 24 hour Manipur bandh starting 7 PM today. The rally that began from BT Park, came through Samu Makhong till Kangla gate. Although the police asked them to return, they forced themselves till Raj Bhawan chanting various slogans against NSCN-IM. The rally then came through Keishampat and returned to Khwairamband bazar through Wahengbam Leikai.

Imphal, 15 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : Three police personnel were killed and several others injured in two separate ambushes along the Imphal-Moreh road in Tengnoupal district this morning. The attacks on police personnel on ROP duty by unidentified armed men occurred at Lokchao and Bongyang around 6.30 am. One police personnel died on the spot in the first ambush near Leingangtabi in Lokchao under Moreh police station. The second ambush occurred at Bongyang a little later 8 am killing another police personnel. The two ambushes occurred hours before the inauguration of Tengnoupal district by chief minister Okram Ibobi. The injured have been brought to Shija hospitals. The ambush at Lokchao happened when the police personnel were on ROP duty in a 407 Tata truck. Meanwhile the chief minister has inaugurated Tengnoupal district.

Imphal, 15 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : Lilong Nungei remained tense after last night's violent clashes between the people of two neighbouring villages. The village under Lilong Police Station looked deserted today after most people left their homes in the wake of the violent incident. People today burned a Honda Activa at Nungei Mayai Leikai. Security measures have been tightened in the area.  Manipur Police and Paramilitary forces have been maintaining a strict vigil in the area. Even though Security arrangements have been tightened in the neighbourhood the tension gripped the villagers.

After the villagers left their houses after a violent incident in Lilong Nungei last night, 5 houses were set on fire, one Grocery shop was looted by miscreants. A water pump was damaged at the fish farm of Thongam Shyam and a large quantity of fish was also stolen. The violent incident occurred last afternoon around 4 when people of Nungei Muslim khul fire on the neighbouring Meitei village. The houses which were set on fire belonged to Laishram Mukta, Laishram Ganga, Laishram Ibomcha and Irungbam Dinesh. Villagers of Nungei Meitei khul immediately reported the incident to Lilong Police and Imphal West District police station. However Nungei Muslims blocked the road and prevented police from reaching the spot till 5.30 pm.   Thoubal District and Imphal West District Police led by SP dispersed the people by firing tear gas shells.

Imphal, 14 December 2016 : People intensified counter economic blockade at Khumbong bazar today and destroyed goods including food and essential commodities being transported to hill districts. The move came in the wake of firing by suspected supporters of the economic blockade on the loaded trucks coming towards Imphal last night. A truck driver was injured in the firing that occurred around 10.30 pm. The incident happened in an area which is about 6 km of Awang khul under Noney PS. The truck bearing registration number MN01 AA 0169 was carrying cement bags for Border Security Force (BSF). The injured driver is identified as Khulem Ibomcha of Khaidem Awang Leikai under Patsoi PS. The miscreants took advantage of darkness and lapses in security. He said he heard a loud noise and thought a tyre got punctured. When he looked backward to see if the vehicle behind him had a punctured tyre he was hit in the right arm. A large number of Khaidem and Khumbong came out and stopped all kinds of passenger vehicles coming from Imphal at Khumbong bazar. They pulled down goods including vegetables from the vehicles and destroyed them.

Wife of the injured driver Khulem Ranjana condemned the attack on a truck driver who is trying to make ends meet. She urged the govt to identify those involved in the firing.

Drivers who risk their lives by plying on national highways which are in deplorable condition and experience frequent bandhs and blockades have expressed their desire to form a Driver’s organisation which will look after their well being. Drivers of vehicles which are now stranded at Jiribam have expressed that they are facing the hardships due to bandhs and blockades however the people always target them during blockades.

Imphal, 13 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : National Students Union of India (NSUI) will launch protests against the new Draft National Education Policy 2016 of the Indian Government. Speaking to media persons at Hotel Imphal, president of NSUI, Amrita Dhawan said they are conducting consultation programmes across the country regarding the new draft policy and it will be held in Manipur tomorrow. She said the policy is aimed at privatisation and is against students from poor background. Stakeholders were not consulted and it is a copy and paste document from the RSS. Amrita Dhawan further said the new policy does not allow student organisations to base in the campus of educational institutions. These kind of policies which discourages the students is not good for India.
