Imphal, 27 December 2016 : National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) organised a one day workshop on digital payment at Imphal West District Sericulture Office today. NIELIT Imphal has been organising Awareness Programme in different parts of Manipur with an aim to impart knowledge on Digital Payment throughout the state. NIELIT Joint Director ( Technical ) Angom Buboo said if people have the knowledge about digital payment mode, the hardships faced by the public in buying goods, transferring money and long queues at ATMs after demonetisation, would reduce. NIELIT will host a Mega Workshop on Digital Payment on January 7 next year in BOAT or MFDC Hall

Imphal, 25 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : MLA RK Anand has categorically stated that Manipur Govt will not surrender to any forms of Bandh and Economic blockade called under the agenda to break the integrity of the state. He made this statement on the sidelines of innaugural functions of Malom Tulihal Market Shed cum Community hall, Malom Tulihal Terakha Community Hall and Malom Hawairou Community hall constructed under the MDS and MLA Local Area development Fund.

Imphal, 24 December 2016 ( Evening News ) :Condition of a protestor of Manipur Electricity Employee Union, demanding regularisation of work charge and muster roll employees is deteriorating. A team of doctor visited S.Rashi,K.Bijento and G.Shanti who are on a hunger strike since yesterday at the gate of MSPDCL in Nityaipat Chuthek. Doctors said the condition of S.Rashi is deteriorating. It may be mentioned that Manipur Electricity Employee Union have been on protest demanding regularisation of 305 work charge and 38 Muster roll. As part of the protest, they have been on hunger strike since yesterday.

Imphal, 23 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju has landed in Imphal today to take stock of the current crisis in Manipur. He landed in the Imphal International Airport around 10:30 this morning. He was received by the Additional Chief Secreatary, Gov of Manipur, Suresh Babu and other top officials. Rijiju took part in the high level security meet chaired by the Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi at the CM's Secretariat in Babupara.  Chief Secretary and top officials of the state and central police forces also attend the meet.

Later in a press meet at Old Secretariat, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju demanded the Manipur Govt to end the economic blockade by UNC at  the earliest. He said steps should be taken up from now or from tomorrow to end the blockade. He also assured of all help from the centre. Rijiju further said the blockade by UNC has caused immense hardships to the people of the state. The minister said he has met with the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and top police officials regarding the matter. He said additional security forces are being deployed to safeguard the national highways and many more are on their way. It is the responsibility of the state govt to maintain the law & order of the state. Centre has kept a close eye on the events that has unfolded in Manipur and it will provide all assistance needed to contain the situation. On the recent twin ambush on Imphal-Moreh road by the suspected NSCN-IM cadres, Kiren Rijiju said the centre is not aware of any illegal act carried out and that actions will be taken if ground rules are not followed

Imphal, 20 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : Police today fired tear gas shells as protestors intensified counter blockade against the UNC's indefinite  economic blockade at Khonghampat. A large number of people came out on the road since early morning and halted vehicles coming from Imphal towards Sekmai. They checked the vehicles before turning them back towards Imphal. 17 large bags containing second hand clothes which were pulled down from a BRTF vehicle in the wee hours today were also lying near the road. They halted a Bolero jeep which came along with police vehicles around 11am. This resulted in confrontation between the police personnel and the protestors. The protestors asked the police to turn back and did not allow movement of all vehicles on the road. They pulled out the second hand clothes from the bags and set them on fire in the middle of the road. When the tussle between the crowd and police was going on, a team of Imphal West police reached the spot and fired tear gas shells to control the crowd. Protestors also pelted stones at the police forcing the police to fire numerous tear gas shells to control the mob. It took nearly half an hour to put the situation under control.
