Three Naga Civilians Killed in Kalenjang Attack

Senapati, September 27: One more person injured in yesterday’s attack at Kalenjang village under Senapati district has succumbed to injuries, taking the death toll to three. The deceased has been identified as Ashiho Sani, who was undergoing treatment at Senapati District Hospital and died this morning. Two other persons belonging to the Mao and Poumai Naga communities were killed in the attack. Following post-mortem examinations, the Naga Peoples Organisation organised a condolence programme at Traffic Point, Senapati Bazar. Leaders of various Naga civil society organisations attended the programme. The mortal remains of all three deceased were later taken to their respective native villages for last rites.

Phungyar MLA Alleges Security Failure in Pilong Killings

Kamjong, September 27: Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing and villagers of Pilong have alleged that the killing of four villagers in Pilong was linked to a failure by Assam Rifles to properly guard the border area. Four villagers were killed on September 24 in the area near the Indo-Myanmar border. Following an Assam Rifles report stating that the incident occurred on the Myanmar side, MLA Leishiyo Keishing led a team to verify the location, accompanied by district police and Assam Rifles personnel. The team reportedly found the village deserted, with blood traces and spent bullet shells at two locations. Keishing alleged the incident was an incursion into Manipur and sought enhanced security, including deployment of three new IRB companies.

UCM Calls for Unity to Protect Manipur’s Integrity

Imphal, September 27: United Committee Manipur President YK Dhiren has called for greater unity among indigenous communities to protect the integrity of Manipur. Speaking during a Langban Tarpan ritual organised by UCM at Kekrupat, Dhiren warned against what he described as narrow ethnic mindsets. He alleged that the failure of the state government to discharge its responsibilities has contributed to growing differences among communities. Dhiren also raised concerns over internally displaced persons who remain unable to return home, alleging that substantial rehabilitation measures have not been taken. He stressed that leaders should work to protect the land and urged people to set aside narrow interests and work for future generations.

JFD Women’s Rally Stopped Near Palace Compound

Imphal, September 27: A protest rally organised by the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation Women’s Task Force, demanding resettlement of internally displaced persons and updation of the NRC, was stopped by security forces at Palace Compound. The rally began from Citizens Club, Wangkhei Khunou Soibam Leikai, with participation from women agitators, including IDPs and members of the JFD Women’s Task Force. Police and Central forces reportedly used stun grenades to disperse the protesters. JFD Women’s Wing Convenor Sougrakpam Sumati said the organisation has been seeking NRC updation and other demands. She said another memorandum would be submitted seeking a 1951 base year for NRC updation, deferment of the census and filling vacant posts in the Manipur Population Commission.

Nando Luwang Calls for Continued Focus on NRC Issue

Kakching, September 27: Social activist Nando Luwang has said the NRC issue will continue to remain a major concern in Manipur as the state government has not been able to move the Centre on the demand for updation of the citizens’ register. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the three-day Golden Jubilee celebration of Lotus Club at Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai, Nando alleged that the state government has not been able to effectively pursue the matter despite resolutions passed by the State Assembly. He said the Centre has also not treated the issue with urgency. Nando urged people to continue raising concerns over Manipur’s unity and territorial integrity and warned that sidelining the NRC issue could further aggravate tensions.

Farmers Face Paddy Crop Loss Amid Water Shortage

Imphal, September 27: Farmers in Laikot Loukon, Khalhoubi Loukon and adjoining agricultural fields under Lamlai Assembly Constituency have reported severe water shortages affecting paddy cultivation. Farmers said most fields have dried up due to inadequate rainfall, with paddy plants wilting because of a lack of water. According to the farmers, the shortage has persisted since transplantation, preventing many saplings from developing properly. They fear that even where paddy has grown, yields could be significantly reduced, while some fields may produce no harvest at all. Farmers dependent entirely on agriculture said the situation has caused serious hardship and appealed to the government to assess the situation and provide necessary assistance.

World Tourism Day Observed at Sangai Ethnic Park

Bishnupur, September 27: World Tourism Day was observed at Sangai Ethnic Park, Moirang, under the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.” The programme was organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla highlighted Manipur’s natural and cultural attractions, including Loktak Lake, the Sangai, INA Memorial and Dzuko Valley. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand said the state’s tourism sector has suffered a major setback due to the unrest and stressed that peace is essential for reviving tourist inflow. Tourism Stakeholders Seek Collective Effort to Promote Manipur

Imphal, September 27: Additional Chief Secretary Anurag Bajpai has said Manipur has the potential to emerge as a major global tourism destination, but collective efforts are needed to realise that potential. Speaking at a World Tourism Day programme at Imphal Peace Museum, Bajpai said tourism development should focus on creating experiences that attract visitors while addressing challenges faced by the sector. He noted that tourist footfall has declined sharply following the conflict in the state. Bajpai called for consultation between the government and tourism stakeholders to identify and address the factors affecting the sector. Representatives of the Manipur Tourism Forum, stakeholder associations, cooperative institutions and students attended the programme.

JNIMS Medical Superintendent Appeals for Hospital Cleanliness

Imphal, September 27: Newly appointed JNIMS Medical Superintendent Dr. Nandeibam Kameshore has appealed to patients, attendants and hospital staff to maintain cleanliness on the hospital campus. He made the appeal during a cleanliness drive organised at JNIMS in collaboration with Citizens Club, Soibam Leikai Wangkhei Khunou, with support from JNIMS security personnel and club workers. Dr. Kameshore stressed that cleanliness is important for preventing diseases and urged the public not to litter the hospital premises. He also assured that efforts would be made to address the shortage of toilets faced by people visiting the hospital. Cleanliness Drive Held Around Ima Market

Imphal, September 27: A cleanliness drive was conducted around Khwairamband Ima Market as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign being observed from September 17 to October 2. The programme was organised by the Sports Authority of India’s North East Regional Centre in collaboration with CRPF Battalion 86 at Lamphelpat and Better Kangleipak. State-Level International Week of Deaf People Observed

Imphal, September 27: The State-level International Week of Deaf People was observed at the Health Services Office, Lamphel, under the message “Declaring Deaf People's Human Rights.” Speaking at the programme, Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Director N. Khoibi stressed the importance of social inclusion and equal treatment of persons with disabilities. He said the rights of differently abled people continue to be overlooked in some areas and noted that some families still do not send children with disabilities to school despite constitutional safeguards. Khoibi also highlighted sign language as an important means of communication and mentioned the Lonphao mobile application launched by the Social Welfare Department to help people learn sign language.

Imphal, September 27: An awareness programme on elections and the role of Meira Paibis was held at Apunba Naharolgi Shakti Community Hall, Konjeng Langpoklakpam Leikai. The programme was organised by Nongchup Imphal Palem Ima Apunba Lup, NIMPAL. Speaking on the occasion, NIMPAL General Secretary S. Shanti highlighted the historical role of women in Manipuri society and their continued participation in social issues. Bishnupur Police Seize 1,300 Bags of Urea

Bishnupur, September 27: Bishnupur District Police have detained vehicles allegedly involved in the illegal transportation of fertilisers and seized a total of 1,300 bags of urea. According to police, 1,200 bags were seized on September 23, while another 100 bags were seized on September 25. An inquiry has been initiated into the matter. The District Agriculture Officer, Bishnupur, has been requisitioned to verify the seized fertiliser and take further necessary action. The seizure comes amid efforts by authorities to monitor the movement of agricultural inputs and prevent their unauthorised transportation. Woman Arrested With Over 3 Kg of WY Tablets

Thoubal, September 27: Kakching District Police have seized WY tablets weighing approximately 3.2 kilograms and arrested a woman in connection with the seizure. The arrested woman has been identified as 36-year-old Singa Sabanam, wife of Md Nur Ahamad, a resident of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district. The seizure was made during an operation by a team of Kakching District Police. Kangleisa Sports Academy Marks Eighth Foundation Day

Imphal, September 27: Kangleisa Huiyen Lallong Thang-Ta Sindamkon observed its eighth Foundation Day at Kyamgei Leishang Hiden Heritage Park. Kangleisa Kanglei Sports Academy Technical Chairman Kh. Sanjit called for an end to divisions among sports associations, saying such differences affect players and hinder sports development. Statue of Former Medical Minister Yengkhom Nimai Unveiled

Kakching, September 27: A statue of Yengkhom Nimai, who served as the first Medical Minister of Manipur after the state attained statehood, was unveiled at Kakching Turel Wangma Ningthou Pareng. The statue was erected at the residence of the late statesman, with family members, including his wife and children, attending the unveiling ceremony. Those present paid floral tributes in remembrance of Nimai and his contributions to Manipur. Yengkhom Nimai is remembered for his role in bringing the erstwhile Manipur Medical College to the state. The institution subsequently developed into the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, or RIMS. The unveiling ceremony honoured his contribution to the development of medical education in Manipur.

Poetry and Song Competition Held to Mark Hijam Irawat’s Birth Anniversary

Imphal, September 27: The All India Youth Federation, Manipur State Council, organised its 27th State-level Jananeta Hijam Irawat Poetry and Song Competition at JN Manipuri Dance Academy as part of the 130th birth anniversary observance of Hijam Irawat. Speaking at the event, Academy Director Pukhrambam Bilash described Irawat as a patriot and a figure who worked for farmers and disadvantaged sections of society. He highlighted Irawat’s contributions to literature, sports and politics and said his legacy should not be forgotten by the present generation. Free Heart Screening Camp Begins Ahead of World Heart Day

Imphal, September 27: A three-day free heart treatment and screening camp has begun at Aadarsh Hospital and Research Institute, Pureilomba Khongnang Makhong, Palace Gate, ahead of World Heart Day. Heart specialist Dr. Rajendra Thangjam said an estimated 80 to 90 percent of heart diseases can be prevented or managed more effectively if risks are detected and addressed in time. The camp is aimed at raising public awareness about heart health and preventive measures. The hospital is offering free heart screening, ECG, blood sugar, lipid profile and HbA1c tests, along with expert consultation. The camp will continue until September 29, according to the bulletin.

Three Radio Plays Compiled in ‘Kalakar’ Released

Imphal, September 27: A collection of three radio plays compiled by Nahakpam Biren, titled “Kalakar,” was released at the auditorium of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations in Imphal. The book release programme was organised by N.P. Publication Centre, Wangjing. Convenor of the Manipuri Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, Professor Rajen Toijamba, Manipur University Manipuri Department Professor Koijam Shantibala and former board convenor Nongmaithem Kirankumar attended the event. Manipur University Assistant Professor Dr. Naorem Ahanjao spoke about the book during the programme. The publication brings together three radio plays by the compiler and adds to the body of Manipuri literary works.

Leishangthem Sarita Wins Silver at Asian Bodybuilding Championship

Bangkok, September 27: Manipur’s Leishangthem Sarita has won a silver medal at the 58th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship being held in Bangkok, Thailand. Competing in the women’s 55-kilogram bodybuilding category, Sarita finished second behind Malaysia’s Mansor Awang Hitam, who won gold. Dora Jimmy of Malaysia secured the bronze medal. The championship is being organised under the aegis of the Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation and began on September 22 at Alexander Hotel, Bangkok. Thirty-year-old Sarita Devi, a mother of two, is a bodybuilder from Royal Fitness Academy, Thoubal, and has participated in several competitions organised under the All Manipur Bodybuilders Association.

Manipur Muay-Thai Contingent Receives Warm Welcome

Imphal, September 27: Manipur’s Muay-Thai players and officials who participated in the North East Regional Muaythai Championship 2026 were accorded a warm welcome upon their arrival at Imphal International Airport. Members of the All Manipur Muay-Thai Lovers and Players Organisation received the contingent. Manipur secured a total of 30 medals at the championship, comprising 18 gold, seven silver and five bronze medals, and finished fourth overall. The regional championship was held in Mizoram from September 21 to 24. The returning players and officials were welcomed by members of the organisation at the airport. The performance added another medal tally for Manipur athletes competing in regional-level sporting events.

Three Teams Win Under-14 Cricket League Matches

Imphal, September 27: Wangoi Cricket Club, Force Cricket Club and Lilong Junior Cricket Club recorded victories in their respective league matches of the first Under-14 Boys Lainingthou Sanamahi Cricket Tournament at Sanabung, Wangoi. In the sixth league match, Wangoi Cricket Club defeated Sonalika Cricket Club by 27 runs. In the seventh encounter, Force Cricket Club beat KCC by 52 runs. Lilong Junior Cricket Club recorded the biggest victory of the day, defeating Jack 11 Cricket Club by 78 runs. Three more league matches are scheduled to be played on October 3. The tournament is providing young cricketers an opportunity to compete in an organised age-group competition.
