Imphal, 22 June 2016 ( Evening News) : JAC of Khomdram Ratan has called for 48-hour Manipur general strike form today midnight against the declaration of former of convenor, JCILPS Khomdram Ratan wanted by the govt. Convener of the JAC Th. Subhachandra today announced the 48-hour general strike to media persons at Singjamei Thongkhong. He said they are aware of the difficulties faced by the people during general strikes but the govt's failure to withdraw the FIR against the former convener of JCILP has compelled them to call for the 48-hour general strike. Subhachandra appealed to the people to extend cooperation to the movement. Patients, people engaged in essential services, people going for religious functions and media persons will be exempted.
Imphal, 22 June 2016 ( Evening News) : Concerned Citizens Manipur today organised a people's convention to bring back normalcy in the strife torn state. Women representatives of various ethnic communities of the hills and valley, Civil Society Organisations, NGOs and university teachers participated in the discussion held at Hotel Imphal Siroy Conference Hall. The participants discussed the prevailing situation in the state following the demand for Inner Line Permit System and the crying need for talks among the various communities living in Manipur to come to an agreement on the Manipur Protection of Peoples Bill, 2015 passed by the state assembly in the interest of all concerned and other issues facing the state. Convenor of Concerned Citizens Manipur Binalakshmi Nepram said the movement for ILPS is not new. She maintained that the movement was launched in 1980 to protect the indigenous people of the state. Binalakshmi alleged that a few handful of people are trying to give a negative picture of the movement. She appealed to the State government to take the right step to resolve the ILPS issue instead of ignoring it to protect the ethnic communities living in Manipur.
Rickshaw puller accuses police sub-inspector of assaulting him over fare at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai
Imphal, 22 June 2016 ( Evening News) : A rickshaw puller alleged that a Sub-Inspector of Manipur Police assaulted him over fare. The incident occurred at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai this morning around 9.30. The rickshaw puller is identified as Kangabam Amutombi, 42, son of late Gopal from Charangpat Laxmi Keithel, Thoubal presently using a rickshaw owned by RK Nanao of Moirangkhom Janmasthan. Recalling the incident Amutombi said while he was at Keishampat Lairembi, a woman asked him to drop her at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai. On reaching the destination, the woman gave Rs 10 which actually should be Rs 20. The woman said she will get Rs 10 from her house and went inside. Minutes later, the SI in plainclothes came out and verbally abused him. Amutombi then requested the SI not to use such languages. The SI along with some persons then started assaulting him alleging that he was intoxicated. Speaking to media Amutombi condemned the incident and appealed not to repeat such act on daily wage earners who are working to make ends meet.
Imphal, 21 June 2016 ( Evening News ): Over 500 people have come together to promote talks between the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System - JCILPS and the JAC Against Anti-Tribal Bills, Churachand-pur, JACAATB to end the ongoing impasse and restore communal harmony between the different communities of the State. Significantly the campaigners are drawn from different communities of the State and the petitions are submitted online on Change.org. Copies of the online petition have also been submitted to the JCILPS and JACAATB. A memorandum each was also submitted to the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary requesting them to mediate between the two parties.
Imphal, 21 June 2016 ( Evening News) : JAC against the unnatural death of Oinam Rex today blocked the roads from Kakwa to Canchipur under Thongju Part 1 and Part 2. 19-year-old Oinam Rex from Ningomthongjao Awang Leikai was found hanging at boarding of Temple of Learning School, Canchipur on June 13. Speaking to media persons JAC Convenor Kh. Iboyaima said they have doubt on post-mortem report. He allegedly accused the school authorities for the negligence which cost the live of Rex.
Imphal, 18 June 2016 ( Evening News) : Thousands of people from all walks of life today offered homage to the 18 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the protection of the territorial integrity of Manipur on June 18 in 2001. The people were protesting against the Bangkok Declaration which extended ceasefire between Govt of India and NSCN-IM without territorial limits and the day is commemorated as “The Great June Uprising, unity day. Since early morning people came to the martyrs memorial memorial at Kekrupat to pay their respect and offer floral tributes to the 18 martyrs. People belonging to different ethnic communities took part in the observance organised by Organising Committee, United Committee Manipur and All Manipur United Clubs Organisation. Multi faith prayers held in the early morning marked the beginning of the commemoration of the day. Martial artists offered general salute to the martyrs. After the salute the representatives of the organising committee led the people in offering floral tributes to the memorial of the martyrs. Family members of the martyrs were among those who offered their respect. Home Minister, Gaikhangam, Social Welfare Minister, Ak. Merabai, Congress and opposition MLA also joined the mass in paying homage to the martyrs. Representatives of various Civil Society Organisations, students and individuals offered flowers at the memorial.
Imphal, 17 June 2016 ( Evening News) : People continued counter blockade against the economic blockade called by JAC Against the Anti Tribal Bills, Churachandpur and other organisations on the national highways. Protestors today prevented transporters from taking food and other essential items from Imphal to hill districts on National Highway 2, Imphal-Dimapur road Khonghampat Awang Leikai and Pheidinga Bazar. They stopped and checked all the private and passenger vehicles coming from Imphal towards Sekmai and Senapati district. The volunteers of counter blockade pulled down food items and other essential items from the vehicles and kept them at the office of the clubs in the area. At Pheidinga the protestors seized bottles of liquor. The people emptied the bottles on roadside. Protestors said they would return the seized items to the owners after the economic blockade. However there was no report of untoward incidents.
Imphal, 15 June 2016 ( Evening News) : People held widespread protests from Nagamapal to Chingmeirong near the state Assembly in support of JCILPS demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur. The protestors staged sit-in in different localities along the road. Residents of the area including students took part in the protests organised by Thangmeiband United Club from Khoyathong till Chingmeirong Khongnang Ani karak. Chungkham Leirak Children Welfare Association organised the demonstration in various places in Nagamapal. People joined the protests at Nagamapal Lamabam Leikai, Nagamapal Phougeisangbam Leikai and other localities. The protestors displayed placards demanding inner Line Permit System and decrying the wanted tag on Khomdram Ratan. All shops along the road downed shutters during the protests.
