Imphal, 28 July 2016 : Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will be visiting Manipur to lay the foundation of Imphal Railway Station at Malom Bamdiar on the 30th of this month. The Union Minister will also lay the foundation for the longest railway tunnel of the country at Kotlien in Tamenglong district. He will arrive at Imphal International Airport in a special aircraft at 9.30 in the morning and lay the foundation stone of Imphal Railway Station at 10.30am. Suresh Prabhu will meet the MPs, Ministers and MLAs in the afternoon and go to Kotlien to lay the foundation of the tunnel at 4.30 pm. Suresh Prabhu will stay the night at Imphal and leave for Agartala next morning.
Imphal, 26 July 2016 ( Evening News) : Irom Sharmila chanu who is on an indefinite fast demanding repeal of AFSPA from Manipur said she has decided to contest the upcoming assembly polls as an independent candidate. Sharmila is going to break her fast which she has been observing for the last almost 16 years. Frustrated at the lack of support from the people Sharmila today told media persons that she is tired of fighting alone. She expressed her desire to contest the upcoming general election as an independent candidate and her cause will be anti AFSPA. Sharmila has been on fast since Nov 2, 2000 demanding removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
Imphal, 26 July 2016 : Students of Imphal College today broke Median Road on the Tiddim Road and damaged the Boys & Girls toilet and bathroom. The NCC boys toilet was also destroyed by the angry students. Today Imphal College Students Union called for a meeting over the deplorable condition of college infrastructure and basic needs. It may be mentioned that the Student Union had submitted a 14-point charter of demand to the Chief Minister, school authority, MLA RK Anand and Education Director in Feb this year, demanding maintenance of College infrastructure. The students are demanding authorities to fulfil its demand by August-September this year. The charter of demands includes repairing of toilets and water plans for toilets, construction of college canteen, construction of union office, construction of vehicle parking, construction of girls and boys hostels among others.
Imphal, 26 July 2016 : Thoubal Police recovered two stolen two-wheeler vehicles and apprehended 3 persons involved in the case. A team of Thoubal Police led by Yairipok police station Officer in charge Laxmi Devi under the supervision of Yairipok SDPO S. Hemanata found 1 Red Activa from Pallel Bazaar and the 2nd Red Activa from Charangpat Mamang Leikai Polo Ground. The three accused persons have been identified as Md. Azaz age 24, S/O Md Jal Muhammad of Hayellabuk Maning Leikai, Md Ethembi, age 25, S/O Md Abdul Salad of Hayellabuk Maning Leikai and Laishram Wisdom, age 21, S/O Laishram Ojit of Wangbal Thongjao.

Imphal, 26 July 2016 : A staged kidnapping case was solved with the help of complaint filed in the Singjamei Police Station. Four persons including NSCN-IM Self Style Lieutenant Colonel and his aide were arrested. SP AK Jhaljit said on July 19, Khoirom Yaiphaba from Singjamei Maibam Leikai filed a complaint that his two employees were abducted by armed men. He said the two employees staged their kidnapping along with the two arrested NSCN-IM men. The arrested NSCN-IM men are identified as Dangshankwa Leidong, age 39, S/O DK. Anglourung from Khudei Khullen who presently stays at Wangsangram Village in Pallel and Molung Leidunshim, age 42, S/O of Late M. Meran from Sandangsenba. The two employees are identified as Lourembam Toto @ Suresh, age 40, from Liwa Maning and Y. Kenedy, s/o Yaithengbam Gulapi from Sawombung Thongkhong who presently stays at Langthabal Kunja. Maruti Van, Honda Activa along with Rs 70,000 cash were recovered from them.
Imphal, 25 July 2016 ( Evening News) : Manipur Police busted two gangs, one involved in staged kidnapping and another involved making Bank Pass Book and AADHAAR card under fake identities. Police arrested 8 persons including two NSCN-IM cadres and a woman and seized fake documents, mobile phones, cash and arms used in running the rackets. Speaking to media persons at Imphal Police Station, Imphal West SP AK Jhaljit said the police initiated an investigation after receiving a complaint from a Nationalised Bank on July 19 and confiscated a large amount of documents and other materials from two shops located at Thangal Bazaar. Police arrested 4 persons in connection with the racket and hunting for Thoudam Prasanta of Wangoi Thoudam Leikai. SP AK Jhaljit said police during the investigation of a complaint filed at Singjamei Police Station on kidnapping case found it to be staged kidnapping carried out by some miscreants to earn money. Four persons including 2 NSCN-IM cadres are arrested in the case and search is on for some others involved in the case.
Imphal, 25 July 2016 (Evening News) : Annual function of Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur was held today, 24 years after the council was formed. Education Minister. Dr. Kh. Ratankumar emphasised on introduction of new techniques in the teaching and learning process in the eduction system and character building of students. Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur organised the First Annual function of the Council at Classic Grande, Chingmeirong. Addressing at the function, Education Minister Dr. Kh. Ratankumar appreciated the efforts taken up by Council to stop unfair means during examination. Minister Ratankumar said it is time that we bring new techniques to drew the attention of the students so that they learn their lessons well and there is no room left for unfair means. He said at present there is a global trend focusing on character building of the students. As part of the function Annual Report of COHSEM was released and gifts were distributed to DC, SP and flying squad who took a major role in the recently held examination conducted by the Council.
Imphal, 24 July 2016 ( Evening News) : Normal life was partially hit by the 24 hour bandh called by All Manipur Written Test successful candidate 2013 Batch Police Constable. In some places bandh supporters blocked roads by placing bamboos and logs. Khurai and Kakwa in Imphal were affected by the bandh while Moijing in Thoubal district, and some areas in Chandel and Senapati district were also hit by the bandh. Police arrested 10 volunteers of the group from Lilong. Joint secretary of the association Nameirakpam Suraj demanded unconditional release of the arrested persons.
