Red Shield Division says the security forces will do all it can to restore peace in Manipur.
Imphal, 19 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : VSM, GOC, Major General of Red Shield Division, SS Mishra said the security forces will do all it can to bring back normalcy in Manipur. He made this statement in response to a query on the role of Assam Rifles in the recent twin ambush on Imphal-Moreh road after the inuagural of Sainik School Horse Riding and Polo Club. Rudra Mishra, wife of General Mishra inaugurated the Horse Riding Arena, while President of Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, Budhachandra Singh cut the ribbon. A team led by General Mishra also planted saplings in and around the arena. Young players of Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association provided salutations and displayed a game of Tent Pegging at the event. Speaking on the ocassion, General Mishra stated that the arena and the club has been opened by the Red Shield Division to encourage the youth to learn about polo from a young age..
15 different organisations come together to form "Good Will Mission for Peaceful Co-existence" to bring back normalcy in the state.
Imphal, 19 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : 15 different organisations have come together to form "Good Will Mission for Peaceful Co-existence" in order to bring back normalcy in the state. As a beginning of the mission, a public meeting will be held in Kwairamband Bazaar on the 21st of this month. The meeting will be attended by representatives of all communities of the state and different stakeholders including UNC. Good Will Mission for Peaceful Co-existence was formed today after a meeting at Nagaram. Ningthouja Lancha of CIRCA has been elected the Convenor of the mission. Tangkhul People’s Organisation,Naga People’s Organisation,Zeliangrong Union, Ten Union Social Upliftment,Khurai,HERICON, LIPUN, representatives of Ima Keithel Mari, KOMREM Union, ICHAM, CIRCA, AMUCO,Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation,Malem Kanba Lup,Nagaram Women Society and KIMACS are part of the mission. Speaking to media persons, Convenor of the mission, Ningthouja Lancha termed the incident of Khurai Heikru makhong yesterday as unfortunate and blamed the security personnel for the same. The meeting held today also took 7 different resolutions.
Indefinite curfew imposed from Lamlong to Yaingangpokpi in Porompat and Sawombung sub divisions of Imphal east
Imphal, 18 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : Indefinite curfew has been imposed by district magistrate Imphal east in some areas of the district as people's protest against the economic blockade became intense on Imphal Ukhrul road today. The district magistrate in his orders issued today said curfew has been imposed on the whole stretch of road from Lamlong to Yaingangpokpi and 300 metres on either side of the road falling under Porompat and Sawombung sub divisions in Imphal east district. A large number of people today blocked the Imphal Ukhrul road at Lamlong protesting the UNC's economic blockade. As the protest intensified police fired tear gas shells and mock bombs to disperse the protestors on the road. There is no report of casualty till the filing of this report.
24-hour Manipur bandh paralyses life in the valley; offices, educational institutes remain closed as bandh supporters halt people's movement
Imphal, 17 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : Life in several parts of the valley was paralysed due to the 24 hour Manipur bandh called by women vendors of Khwairamband bazaar. Women vendors have called the 24-hour Manipur bandh from 7pm of Friday till 7pm this evening. Educational institutes, offices, banks, markets, shops, and other business establishments remained shut in greater Imphal areas. All the roads in the Capital city wore a deserted look and Khwairamband Bazaar, Paona Bazaar and Thangal Bazar and other important markets were shut down for the day. Men and women bandh supporters were seen blocking the roads since early morning. No vehicles apart from emergency services were allowed to ply on the road. Women vendors of Khwairamband Bazaar blocked all the roads in and around the bazaar. They blocked all roads leading to Khoyathong, North AOC, Western Gate of Kangla, Uripok Kangchup, Naga-mapal, Sagolband Kwakeithel, Keisampat, Kakwa, Palace Compound and prevented all kinds of traffic movement on the roads. There were heated arguments at various places between bandh supporters and commuters. Even the police and army personnel were not spared and forced them to return. It may be mentioned that women of Khwairamband bazar took out rally yesterday demanding ousting of NSCN-IM from Manipur and announced a 24-hour Manipur bandh against against the twin ambushes in Tengnoupal district that left 3 police personnel dead and 8 injured.
Bandh supporters damaged 4 vehicles in Jiribam. Bandh supporters damaged a cruiser van travelling towards Imphal and 3 cruiser vans going towards Tamenglong around 9 this morning. The vehicle travelling to Imphal, bearing Registration number AS11 AC 6870 was damaged at the Forest Gate of Sorok Atingbi and 3 vehicles travelling to Temenglong bearing Registration numbers AS11 CC 1391, AS11 BC 6096 and AS11 BC 6370 were damaged at Gularthol. Meanwhile, 378 loaded vehicles are stranded in Jiribam. They include 28 LPG Bullet tankers, 85 oil tankers and 265 trucks carrying other essential items.
Bandh volunteers blocked roads at Keisampat Junction. Supporters burned down an effigy of General Secretary of NSCN (IM), Thuingaleng Muivah and raised various slogans.
Escorts of Phungzathang Tonsing fire at bandh supporters near Tiddim ground, people force them to apologise
Imphal, 17 December 2016 ( Evening News ) : Tension prevailed on Tiddim road near Tiddim Ground after escorts of MLA, Phungzathang Tonsing opened fire at bandh supporters this morning. Sources from the spot said when the bandh supporters were blocking the road, escorts of the MLA came out in a Maruti Gypsy. When the bandh supporters asked them to turn back, they went back about 30 metres. After the vehicle stopped, 2 escorts got down from the vehicle and fired about 10 rounds indiscriminately. The furious protestors chased them , but both of them managed to get into the house of the MLA. However the PRO who was in the gypsy was caught by the crowd. The people warned that they will not release the PRO until the two personnel apologised to them. Later a team of Singjamei police personnel arrived at the spot and produced the two security personnel. The duo apologised to the people with folded hands. They were later taken to Singjamei police station.
