Imphal, 04 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : The BJP central election committee today announced the second list of candidates for the ensuing assembly elections in Manipur. The party is yet to announce the candidates for Lamshang and Bishnupur. Like the Congress party the BJP has also fielded two women candidates in reserved constituencies. Nemcha Kipgen who left the Congress party and joined the BJP will contest in Kangpokpi and SS Olis will contest in Chandel. W. Jyotin who left the Congress recently will contest against Congress's Kh. Joykisan in Thangmeiband. Dr N. Dwijamani will contest against Congress veteran L. Nandakumar in Uripok, Y. Khemchand against I. Hemochandra in Singjamei. Adim Panmei has been fielded against deputy chief minister Gaikhangam in Nungba, V. Hangkhalian against Phungzathang Tonsing in Churachandpur. The second list was issued today by secretary central election committee, Jagat Prakash Nadda.

Imphal, 03 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : Students of Indian Institute of Information Technology, Manipur has blamed the authorities of the institute for using security personnel to beat them up when they went to lodge a complaint about the food being served at the hostel. They also held a protest at the campus yesterday from 11 in the morning till late evening. When a team of Impact News visited the hostel today regarding the issue, students of the institute expressed a lot of dissatisfaction. They said the authorities did not take up any action despite a complaint being lodged 5 days ago about the food being served in the hostel. They were not ready for talks even when the protest was on yesterday at the campus. Students also alleged that the authority had locked up the hostel while the protest was on and were made to wait for hours outside the hostel. They also expressed concerns over hostel mess being located outside the campus in the boy's hostel thereby making it difficult for the girl students to come out at late night to the mess.

Imphal, 02 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : Two representatives of the state Govt and UNC president Gaidon Kamei and information secretary Shangkhel Stephen left Imphal today to take part in the tripartite talk scheduled for tomorrow in New Delhi. Before departure Shangkhel Stephen told media persons that the talk will decide whether the blockade will be lifted or not. Replying to a media query, Stephen said UNC’s demands have already been presented on the table of the Govt. He also said UNC is against the creation of 7 new districts and that the Govt should repeal the same. Revenue commissioner K Radhakumar and additional secretary home, Dr. Suresh Babu will represent the Manipur Govt. Speaking to media persons at the Imphal international airport, Suresh Babu said how to find a solution to the problem will be discussed at the tripartite talk. It may be mentioned that a team of 7 members of the UNC led by its General Secretary, S Milan had already reached Delhi last night to take part in the Tripartite talk.

Imphal, 02 February 2017 : Former minister and Thongju MLA Bijoy Koijam has asked the Congress and BJP to stop war of words and instead focus on resolving the UNC's economic blockade. Senior President of Manipur National Democratic Front (MNDF), Bijoy Koijam today termed the failure of the state govt and the Central govt to end the indefinite economic blockade on the national highways as unfortunate. Speaking to media at MNDF Office, at Babupara, Bijoy Koijam maintained that the govt should not allow a handful of persons to hold the lives of several lakhs of people to ransom. He urged the Centre and State Govt to suspend the economic blockade called in violation of the rights of the people. He said the BJP should not have claimed that it would lift the economic blockade if it comes to power. He questioned the BJP if it is going to ignore the sufferings of the people if it is not in power. Meanwhile the Office-Bearers of MNDF Women Front have been appointed. Kshetrimayum Urmila, Huidrom Anita, L. Shilla, Wahengbam Bidyapati have been made president, vice-president, general secretary and secretary respectively.

Imphal, 28 January 2017 ( Evening News ) : Unsettling and stress filled situation was about to arise at Malom Oil Depot. Even though there has been import of petroleum products to make adjustments with the shortages caused by the UNC’s economic blockade, unavailability of adequate oil for the passenger vehicles has led to the unrest at the depot. Speaking to the media,  All Manipur Petroleum Product Drivers Association,President Laishram Somen said keeping in view the difficulties faced by the drivers in the Imphal Jiribam road due to the economic blockade, and a meeting with the Chief Minister led the association to retreat its earlier stand. However, this morning at Malom Oil Depot, United Bus Owner Welfare Association stormed at the depot.  In an altercation, a representative of United Bus Owner Welfare Association tried to raise hands to Drivers Association’s members. He further said it is baseless to blame that  Drivers association is trying to support the UNC and has appealed to consider the effort and difficulties of the drivers and has requested to bring about an understanding between the drivers associations and the oil depot.
