Violence erupted in RIMS following the death of a student
Imphal, 09 February 2017 : Violence erupted in RIMS following the death of a student. The deceased is identified as Thounaojam Shyamsundar son of Th. Shantikumar of Keibi Kumuda Leikai in Imphal East. Sister of the deceased who was a student of Class ten said he was admitted to Raj Medicity on the 21st of last month. She also said he was later admitted to RIMS as they had financial problem. The sister alleged that the doctor who treated him refused to see him when his condition deteriorated today. She also alleged that two junior doctors came after one hour and checked him. The family has refused to accept the body.
Sit-in was staged today at Singjamei Super Market
Imphal, 07 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : A sit-in was staged today at Singjamei Super Market ,organised by Singjamei Kanba lup, demanding to remove the temporary market shed at Singjamei Super Market at the earliest. vice President of the lup Yambem Boinao said the temporary shed has become an easy spot for the youths to easily indulge in the temptation of drugs. The shed which was initially set up for just a period of 3 years , has not been removed even after 6 years now. He continued, out of the 80 shops in the shed, 8shops have been lying vacant to exploit as drug vendors by the youths. He further warned if the shed is not removed on or before 15 of this month, Singjamei Kanba lup along with the people of Singjamei will destroy and abolish the shed.
CEO issues notification for Assembly elections in Manipur for the first phase
Imphal, 07 February 2017 ( Evening News ) : The process of Assembly elections in Manipur begins today with the issuance of notification for the first phase. 38 seats of the 60-member Assembly will go to polls in the first phase on the 4th of next month. The late date of filing of nominations is the 14th of this month, while withdrawal of candidature can be done till the 18th. The ECI announced the-phase elections for the Manipur legislative Assembly on the 4th of last month along with Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand. Meanwhile various political parties have announced the names of their candidates for the two-phase assembly elections.
People injured in Kyamgei under Keirao Assembly Constituency after a scuffle broke out at an election Rally.
Imphal, 06 February 2017 ( Evenings News ) : In latest election related violence, people have been injured in Kyamgei under Keirao Assembly Constituency. The incident reportedly took place when the congress workers raised hands at the workers of Rameshwor while they were in a political rally. Condemning the act, L. Rameshwor has appealed the authority concerned to look into the matter. Speaking about the incident, Secretary of Keirao Apunba Chaokhat Thourang Lup, Akhongbam (O) Ibeyaima said workers of BJP candidate, Rameshwor tried to carry out a Rally at about 11 AM today at Kyamgei. Sensing trouble, meira paibis of the locality requested them to not carry out the rally since workers of congress candidate, Thamarjit outnumbered them. She said people who came to take part in the rally carried harmful objects in their vehicles. Stone pelting were also reported later and injured Ch Mocha and N sobha were admitted to RIMS. Ibeyaima questioned the Election commission if they allowed people to carry weapons in the Rally while granting permission. She also expressed dissatisfaction over the partial treatment of the police.
UNC's Gaidon Kamei and Shangkhel Stephen back in Imphal, next round of talk to be held in Imphal on February 7
Imphal, 05 February 2017 :UNC president Gaidon Kamei and information secretary Shangkhel Stephen who participated on 3 February tripartite talk in New Delhi were escorted back to Imphal by a team of Manipur police. They arrived in Imphal international airport yesterday afternoon. The next round of talk will be held in Imphal on February 7. The tripartite talk among the representatives of the govt of India, govt of Manipur and the UNC was held in New Delhi yesterday to resolve the indefinite economic blockade on the national highways called by United Naga Council in protest against the creation of new 7 districts in Manipur. When media persons queried them about the outcome of the talk at the airport UNC president Gaidon Kamei said "let's wait for the new development." A team of Manipur Police escorted them to an ambulance. The second round of talk will be held in Imphal on the 7th of this month. It may be mentioned that the UNC called for an indefinite economic blockade on the national highways from the midnight of October 31 in protest against the creation of 7 new districts in the state. Both the UNC leaders have been remanded in judicial custody in connection with violent incidents during the blockade in different areas of the state.
