Mathiurongliu Gangmei from Makhuam-3 village celebrated her 115th birthday today making her the oldest living person in the world
Imphal, 10 May 2018 ( Evening News ) : Mathiurongliu Gangmei from Makhuam-3 village, Noney District celebrated her 115th birthday with her family and people in her locality. Mathiurongliu Gangmei was born in the month of February, 1903. She witnessed the 1917 Thadou-Kuki Rebellion when she was just 14 years. She gave birth to 5 children from her first marriage to Langang Riamei in 1927. After Riamei’s passing, she remarried for the second time to Pouhoulung Gangmei and bore two more children. Altogether, Mathiurongliu Gangmei has 95 descendants at present. Her eldest daughter, Jakhaolu Riamei is 94 years old. She stated that her mother adopted the principle of eating simple food and living a peaceful life, free from violence.
A birthday cum blessings ceremony in honour of Mathiurongliu Gangmei, the oldest living person in the world was held at Mukhuam village today. Children and relatives of Gangmei who had resided in Assam, Nagaland and other parts of Manipur came to attend the event where she blessed them with a healthy and prosperous life. She is currently under the care of her unmarried daughter Majabamliu Gangmei. It maybe mentioned that as per a report submitted by the Associated Press on April 11, 2018, Masazo Nonaka of Japan at 112 years is documented to be the oldest person in the world.
Cultural festival enhances the bond between people of different communities in the state : Minister Karam Shyam
Imphal, 04 April 2018 ( Evening News ): CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam asserted that cultural festivals enhance the bond between people of different communities in the state. The minister was speaking on the second day of “Yara Kumhei”, the seed sowing festival of the village organised by Yara Committee Kangkhui at Kangkhui Village, Ukhrul District yesterday. Speaking on the occasion, the minister maintained that culture plays a significant role in binding the different communities together and organising cultural festivals will further strengthen the bond. He assured that he will urge the concern minister to undertake construction works of the the road connecting the village to Ukhrul town at the earliest. He gave his word that he will extend all possible assistance in the construction of public toilets in the village. The minister also inspected the godown of Food Corporation of India (FCI) during the visit.
Volunteers of JCILPS students' wing vandalise fruit stalls in Thangal Bazar
Imphal, 02 May 2018 ( Evening News ) : Volunteers of JCILPS students' wing vandalised fruit carts and stalls along the footpath in front of Bheirodian Maxwell Hindi Primary and High School at Dharamshala in Thangal Bazar today. It maybe mentioned that JCILPS student wing had earlier served an ultimatum to vacant the footpath as the business transactions at the fruit stalls disturb the academic atmosphere and also create traffic congestion. Manipur Police personnel tried to contain the situation but was helpless at first. Later, extra police personnel of City Police stormed at the spot and contained the situation and apprehended 50 students including the convenor of JCILPS Students' Wing, Manijit Sarangthem. Speaking to media persons amidst the chaos, Manjit Sarangthem strongly condemned that the non-local illegal fruits vendors are given police protection when aged women folks trying to earn a livelihood were earlier evacuated from the streets of the market. He maintained that the stalls were forcibly demolished since the ultimatum served to the vendors to evacuate the footpath expired today.
Chief Minister along with the Speaker and Water Resources Minister inspects Imphal river banks and dredging works along the river
Imphal, 29 April 2018 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister N. Biren along with Speaker Yumnam Khemchand and Water Resources Minister Letpao Haokip inspected the condition of Imphal river banks and dredging works being taken up along the river at different localities of Singjamei, Thongju and Yaiskul Constituencies today. The team was accompanied by high ranking officials of the State Government. It may be mentioned that dismantling and eviction of houses, shops and other unauthorised structures is being done apart from dredging of riverbeds and strengthening of embankments by the State Government to combat flash floods.The team mainly inspected areas namely Singjamei Oinam Thingel, Waikhom Leikai, Mongkhang Lambi, Torban Kshetri Leikai, Singjamei Chirom Leikai, Thokchom Leikai and Loklaobung etc.
UCM to confront if the framework agreement between NSCN-IM and the Central Government harms the interest of the people
Imphal, 29 March 2018 ( Evening News ) : New Central Committee members of United Committee Manipur, UCM were administered oath of office for the term 2018-2021 at its office in Lamphel today. Sunil Karam of NIPCO, Ksh. Somorendro of ACOAM-LUP and Kh Athouba of IPSA have been inducted as the President, Vice-President and General Secretary of the committee respectively. Speaking to media persons, newly appointed President, Sunil Karam stated that the organisation will work towards bringing a united Manipur and that UCM along with people will stand together and face if the peace talks between NSCN-IM and the Central Government harms the interest of the people of the State. Former President Elangbam Johnson lauded the support extended by the people during his presidentship and further appealed to the people to continue to support the new office bearers.
