Imphal College Students condemn unregulated transport fare
Imphal, 30 January 2021 ( Evening News ) : Students of Imphal College have demanded the State Government to fix the fares of Private Passenger Vehicles for students. The Students carried out protest demonstrations pressing their demand in front of the College Gate along Tiddim Road this morning. Manipur Police Personnel intervened and pacified the protesting students. Speaking to media, a protesting student highlighted their plights in the wake of steep hike in transportation fare. He urged the Government to address their grievances at the earliest.
Traffic Control Police restricted some routes to ensure smooth observance of “Martyrs Day” 2021
Imphal, 30 January 2021 ( Evening News ) : Traffic congestion was witnessed in Imphal City today as Traffic Control Police restricted some routes to ensure smooth observance of “Martyrs Day” 2021. Traffic Police diverted vehicles coming from Singjamei in Imphal West towards Keisamthong at Moirangkhom. While vehicles plying on Mayai Lambi and Kwakeithel road were diverted towards Wahengbam Leikai, vehicles coming from North AOC were diverted towards Khoyathong. Vehicles plying from Imphal East District were diverted towards Loklaobung from Sanjenthong while vehicles coming towards Minungthong were diverted towards Lamlong. Vehicles coming from Uripok towards Kangla Western Gate were directed towards the Nagamapal side. Normal routes were restored after the Martyrs' Day observance at GM hall, however, heavy flow was witnessed immediately after the restoration. Many commuters including those plying on emergencies and even Ambulances were not spared from the traffic congestion this morning.
MP Dr. RK Ranjan walks out of strategy meeting to discuss ways to convert Chanam Sandrok GP into a Model Village
Imphal, 13 December 2020 ( Evening News ) : Rural Development and Panchayati Raj organised a 'Strategy Meeting Cum Orientation Programme to convert Chanam Sandrok Gram Panchayat into a Model Village' at Thiyam Community Hall in Keirao today. The event was held under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. MP Dr. RK Ranjan, Director of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and top officials of Line Department walked out of the meeting. Nevertheless, the meeting went on successfully. Experts stressed on various ways to convert Chanam Sandrok Gram Panchayat into a Model Village at the event. Other invitees namely Imphal East DC Khumanthem Diana, RD and PR Director P. Gojendro and Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshor Meitei also failed to attend the meet. Speaking on the sidelines, Adhaksha of Imphal East District- P. Bimola expressed disappointment over the MP and top officials of Line Department for leaving the area without attending the meet. She urged the concerned officials of Line Department to put extra efforts in making the Village a full- fledged one.
Manipur remembers historic Nupi Lal
Imphal, 12 December 2020 ( Evening News ) : Manipur today commemorated the historic "Nupi Lal Movements". The day is a salute to those Manipuri women who waged two historic wars in 1904 and 1939 against mass exploitation and artificial famine triggered by the British imperialists. The 81st State level Nupi Lal memorial observance was held at Nupi Lal Memorial Complex. People paid rich tributes to those brave Manipuri women who fought the mighty British armless. Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren called upon the present generation to imbibe the invincible courage of those brave mothers who fought gallantly against the monopolistic policies of the colonial rule and strive for an egalitarian society. Chief Minister N. Biren led his Council of Ministers, MLAs, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs, Police & Civil top officials and the public in offering tributes to the brave mothers at the memorial complex.
Speaking on the sidelines, SDO Lamphel, Pooja Elangbam, IAS urged present generation to follow the paths of the brave mothers who fought gallantly against the exploitative policies of Colonial Rule and strive for socio-political reforms in the State.
Speaking on the sidelines, General Secretary of Nupilal Memorial Association Drama party, Nongthombam Binarani urged Chief Minister N. Bired to put into order, his assurance to name the road from Nupi Lal Memorial Complex till Keishampat as Nupi Lal Road at the earliest. It may be mentioned that Chief Minister N. Biren assured the same during last year’s Nupi Lal memorial observance.
CENTRE APPROVES NEW MEDICAL COLLEGE IN CHURACHANDPUR: CM BIREN SINGH
Imphal, 11 December 2020 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren today assured that necessary arrangements are underway to conduct Autonomous District Council elections in the near future. He was speaking to Impact News on the sidelines of handing over 3 vehicle each to 6 ADCs of the State. Chief Minister N. Biren, Tribal Affairs & Hills Minister Vungjagin Valte and relevant Department officials were present on the occasion. The Chief Minister said that State Cabinet had already decided regarding ADC elections, however conduction of the election has been delayed owing to coronavirus pandemic coupled with lack of awareness on COVID-19 SOPs by villagers in the interior areas of the hills districts. Stating that possibility of getting coronavirus vaccine in the near future is high, the Chief Minister assured that the election will be conducted once the pandemic subsides. It maybe mentioned that All Tribal Students' Union Manipur ATSUM has already warned to resume their deferred agitations if the ADC election is not conducted at the earliest.
