Imphal, 24 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Reactions are pouring in following attack at Chief Minister's chopper and blast at newly constructed district hospital in Ukhrul. Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President TN Haopkip strongly condemned the attack at the newly constructed District Hospital in Hungpung in Ukhrul district. TN Haopkip said the hospital will benefit the people of the district and blast on the day of the inauguration is unfortunate. He said govt has constructed the hospital for the people of the district.

On the other hand, Naoriya Pakhang-lakpa MLA RK Anand termed the attack of Chief Minister's visit in Ukhrul as a challenge to the people of Manipur. Congress MLA Anand said it is high time that the people of the state must come together as one for the development of the state. RK Anand said the attack on Chief Minister's chopper in Ukhrul and blast at the newly constructed District Hospital is also a big threat to the communal harmony of the state. He said the attack is impossible to be carried out without the support of NSCN-IM which is undergoing peace talks with the Govt of India. Strongly condemning the attack, RK Anand demanded the NDA led Central govt to immediately scrap the peace talks with the NSCN-IM. The MLA said the Chief Minister must be lauded as he went to Ukhrul despite ban thinking for the welfare of the people of the district. He said whenever the NDA has come to power in Centre there has been threat to the state, he cited the incident of June 14, 2001 Bangkok Agreement and the framework agreement signed between NSCN-IM and Centre on Aug 3, 2015. The MLA was speaking at the inauguration of Hiyangthang Educated Youth Development Association Community Hall today.

Imphal, 24 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh arrived today in Ukhrul district amidst tense situation. The chopper carrying Chief minister and other officials arrived at Pakshi Ground in Hungpung at 9:30 am. Due to public curfew announced by Tangkhul Naga Long, volunteers of Tangkhul Naga Long blocked roads and burnt tyres protesting CM’s visit. Due to tense situation in the area Chief Minister and his team were detained at the helipad for an hour. After one hour, Chief Minister took off for Chingai at around 10:30 am. Meanwhile, just before the chopper took several rounds of bullets were fired towards the direction of the helipad which injured one 6 Manipur Rifles jawan. MR Jawan William Tara sustained injuries at his left abdomen and right arm. The gunfight between security personnel and suspected underground cadres lasted around 15 minutes. Two vehicles, one gypsy and one sumo was also completely burnt down by bandh supporters. It is also learnt Chief Minister returned back to Imphal without landing at Chingai. Meanwhile all the three inauguration programmes, 33/11 power sub-station at Khunjao, 32/11 power sub station at Hungdung and SDO/BDO OFFICE scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Minister has been cancelled. The attack was allegedly carried out by suspected NSCN-IM armed men.

Early this morning, a lethode bomb blast occurred amidst tight security at newly constructed District Hospital in Hungpung at Ukhrul district at around 12:30 am. The district hospital was scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Minister today. During the blast an IRB personnel identified as T. Milan of 4th IRB was injured. The blast damaged floor and roof of reception dias. It may be mentioned that Tangkhul Naga Long had earlier announced public curfew. There is tight security in the district as hundreds of Tangkhul Naga Long volunteers are seen on the road.

Imphal, 23 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : A young girl was found dead under suspicious circumstances near Nongren Mamang Chingdum Macha under  Lamlai Police station in Imphal east district. The body is yet to be identified. The girl appeared to be around 20. It is suspected that she was killed and left in the area last night. Morning walkers discovered the body early this morning. She was about 4 feet 8 inches tall and fair and wore a black top and a blue striped pant. Sources said the miscreants allegedly hit her in the heat by a blunt object. Locals could not identify her.  Police has deposited the body at JNIMS Morgue.

Imphal, 23 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : Convenor of State Election Management Committee, BJP Manipur Pradesh, Thounaojam Chaoba   claimed that the Congress party can win single digit seats in the upcoming Assembly polls. Chaoba today flagged off a rally of two wheelers and 4 wheelers organised by BJP election Committee of Oinam Malesh. Chaoba said rally was organised to understand the problems facing the people of the constituency due to bad condition of roads, non availability of drinking water and rice under the national food security act in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Constituency. Secretary of BJP Manipur Pradesh and an Aspiring BJP candidate in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa, O. Malesh said the rally was held to see if the claims made by Naoriya Pakhang lakpa MLA that 80% of the roads in the constituency are repaired are true. About 2000 BJP workers took part in the Rally.

Imphal, 22 October 2016 ( Evening News ) : People today blocked the Tinseed Road protesting non repair of the road. Tinseed Road Joint Action Committee Takhel GP, formed against the non repairing of Tinseed Road, held the protest. Residents of the area came out from early morning and blocked the road in Takhel GP area by placing logs and bamboos. The JAC had earlier submitted a memorandum to Works Minister Kshetrimayum Biren who represents Lamlai on the 13th of October urging him to repair the road. The JAC decided to block the road after it got no response from the minister. Lamlai Mandal BJP member and BJP State Executive member Kh. Ibomcha said BJP Lamlai mandal has been asking the authorities concerned to repair the road since 2015. He assured the people that if the Govt fails to repair the road, he will repair it. The JAC however relaxed the blockade in the afternoon in view of the Ningol-Chakouba festival.
