Khongjom Battle Memorial Celebration Committee will write to the President requesting him not to attend the Khongjom Day on April 23
Imphal, 8 April 2016 : Khongjom Battle Memorial Celebration Committee today accused the Manipur govt of trying to distort the history of Manipur by inviting President Pranab Mukherjee to attend the Khongjom Day on April 23. Addressing the media persons Secretary of Khongjom Battle Memorial Celebration Committee, Ching Tam Luwang said there is a debate on weather the Khongjom War was fought on April 23 or 25 in 1891. He said documents containing the details of the war was submitted to State Archives on June 1, 2014 and a review committee was formed regarding the matter. Ching Tam said Khongjom War was not fought at Kheba Ching in Wangjing. He said inviting President Pranab Mukherjee as Chief Guest to attend the Khongjom Day at Kheba Ching is misleading the President of the country. The President will also inaugurate Mega Tourist Spot at the function. Ching Tam said he will write to the President requesting him not to attend the function.
Laishram Veerjit who shot his cousin remanded to judicial custody for 15 days
Imphal, 8 April 2016 : Laishram Veerjit was today produced before the Civil Judge cum Judicial Magistrate First Class Imphal West 1 at Lamphelpat. Laishram Veerjit is the accused in the murder of his first cousin Laishram Naopak. Officers of C.I.D Crime Branch who are probing the case requested the Civil judge (junior division)-cum judicial magistrate First class Imphal west-1, Alek Muivah for judicial custody for Laishram Veerjit. The court after hearing both the CID Crime Branch officers and Assistant Public Prosecutor remanded Laishram Veerjit to judicial custody for 15 days. He will be sent to Sajiwa Jail. The judge also directed the accused to appear in the court on the 21st of this month. It may be mentioned that Laishram Veerjit was arrested by Singjamei Police in connection with the murder of Laishram Naopak on the 29th of last month. He was sent to police custody on the 4th of this month after the CID Crime Branch requested the court for custodial interrogation.
North East ASEAN Business Summit kicks off in Imphal
Imphal, 8 April 2016 : The two day North East ASEAN Business Summit 2016 began today at City Convention centre Imphal. The summit is being held for the first time in Manipur. The two day event aims at increasing the trade volume among the member countries. Bangladesh minister of commerce Tofail Ahmed who was the special guest of honour on the first day emphasised the relationship between India and Bangladesh. He said the objective of the Business Summit is to strengthen trades among the South East Asian countries to achieve economic development. He also stressed the importance of transport and communication among the member nations to achieve the objectives. The Bangladesh minister described Manipur as a state with plenty of natural resources and appreciated the handicraft and handloom products of the state. Ambassadors of Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and High Commissioner of Brunei, members of All India Chamber of Commerce were among those who attended the inaugural session of the summit.
JCILPS continues drive against illegal migrant workers, About 100 migrant workers verified at NIT Complex
imphal, 7 April 2016 : JCILPS conducted a drive at NIT Complex, Langol as part of their ongoing drive to identify illegal migrant workers in the state. About 100 migrant workers were verified by the members of JCILPS student and women wings. Even though the workers at the NIT complex possessed Voter ID, Aadhaar cards and other identification documents they did not possess the worker’s permit from the Labour Department. Speaking to media persons JCILPS office secretary Jitendra Ningombam said JCILPS’ move is not to drive out the migrant workers from the state but to make them work under proper regulations. Those workers without permit from the labour department were handed over to Lamphel Police station.
Bharatiya Janata Party is 36 years old on 6 April 2016, JP Manipur celebrates the day with great enthusiasm
Imphal, 7 April 2016 : The Bharatiya Janata Party, BJP, is 36 years old today. It was on this day in 1980 that BJP was formed as a separate party. BJP Manipur Pradesh celebrated the 36th foundation day of the party with great enthusiam across the state. The main function was held at the head office of BJP Manipur Pradesh at Nityaipat chuthek. Floral tributes were offered at the portraits of the founders of the party by party leaders and members including Prahlad Singh Patel who is in charge of BJP Manipur and president of BJP Manipur Pradesh, Th Chaoba. Prahlad Singh Patel said the people have faith in the ideologies of the party. Th Chaoba said the BJP is the party with the maximum number of members in the world. He said the party now has 11 crore members.
