Orange found in Tamenglong will be named as Tamenglong Mandarin or Tamenglong Orange
Orange found in Tamenglong District will be named as Tamenglong Mandarin or Tamenglong Orange. The govt issued a Gazette on 1st December. A meeting of committee for naming/renaming of all important local horticulture crops of Manipur was held on September 11 this year. Speaking exclusively to Impact News, Joint Director, Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, AS Ningmi said now no other place or people can claim the orange found in Tamenglong as theirs. Joint Director AS Ningmi also said apart from the orange found in Tamenglong, wild cherry or black cherry widely grown in Ukhrul, Senapati and Tamenglong districts of Manipur included in the Gazette will be named as Manipur Cherry. The decision to rename them was taken under Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Act 2001 in the meeting of the Committee chaired by Principal Secretary, Horticulture.
Editor's Guild Manipur observes its First Foundation Day at Churachandpur
The first Foundation Day celebration of Editors’ Guild Manipur was held yesterday at Churachandpur District Training Hall with the President of the Guild A Mobi in the Chair. The celebration was attended by Dr A Ibomcha IIS, News Editor of AIR and DDK as the Guest of honour and several Editors of Manipur dailies both from the hill and the valley. Mrs Valley Rose of Tangkhul daily speaking at the function said there was need for the journalist both in the hills and valley to work together on issues that directly affected them.Secretary General of the Editors Guild of Manipur, Yumnam Rupachandra placed a brief report of the Guild taken up in its one year of existence. He said a memorandum containing 7 Charter of demands have been given to the Manipur Chief Minister for the welfare of the editors of Manipur. He also told the gathering that the CM has promised to look into the demands soon after he arrive from New Delhi. Dr Ibomcha said as media fraternity his organization was willing to extend whatever help he can in strengthening the Editors Guild, Manipur. President of the Editors Guild Manipur is his presidential speech promised to work towards strengthening the Guild. He said effort to raise the level of communication between the editors in the hill and valley will be made.
Editors of Manipur conducted workshop on sensitization of Swachh Bharat Nirman Gramin
A one day workshop on sensitization of Swachh Bharat Nirman Gramin for the Editors of Manipur was held yesterday at Churachandpur. Speaking as the resource person at the workshop, L Swamikanta, Director of CCD & PHED said under the mission mode, the department was targeting transformation of villages into clean and happy village. He also said the department was targeting to provide 24x7 water supply in 2870 villages of Manipur, which has been possible in some villages like Hararok in Imphal East and Matijang in Churachandpur. Additional Chief Engineer PHED Laishram Ibomcha also attended the workshop.
286th anniversary of Puya Mei Thaba to be observed on 13th Jan 2015
The 286th Anniversary of 'Puya Mei Thaba' which is considered as one of the black day in the history of Manipur will be observed widely in Manipur and abroad on January 13th next year. Speaking to media persons at Meelal office today, leaders of ICOP, Meelal, Mikal, Ukal, All Manipur Private Schools Welfare Association, United Manipuri Muslim Women Development Organisation and Manipur State Shumang Leela Council said the main function in Manipur will be observed at Thau Ground while the floral tribute ceremony will be held inside Kangla. Three days ahead of the anniversary, students from various schools will wear black badges to condole the dark day in the history of Manipur. Vice President of Meelal and Convenor of ICOP, Moirangthem Naokhomba said on that day two important awards namely 'Chingmee Tamee Nungshi Lipun' and 'Maichou Singsong Mana' will be distributed.
5th Foundation Day of Kamini Devi Memorial Library
Lack of inculcating the habit of reading is responsible for moving our society backward. This was unanimously resolved by those present at the 5th Foundation Day of Kamini Devi Memorial Library and THAU Information Centre today. It was also resolved to extend public support and cooperation for development of library movement in Manipur. From next year onwards, Kamini Memorial Library and Thau Information Centre is planning to organised interaction programs for students with award winning national and international writers to improve library movement. Chief Librarian of Manipur Central Library, Elangbam Latakishwor lamented on lack of reading books in libraries of Manipur. He further maintained that efforts of State Central library without public support will not be able to bring library movement in the state.
