Ten Killed in Fresh Violence Across Kamjong, Ukhrul and Kangpokpi

Kamjong, October 10: Ten people, including six Nagas, three Kukis and one Nepali national, were reportedly killed in five separate incidents of violence across Kamjong, Ukhrul and Kangpokpi districts in the past 24 hours. Several houses were also reportedly burnt amid renewed tensions between Kuki and Naga communities. The incidents included a woman killed by a suspected stray bullet at Chassad, an ambush near Ningchou village and attacks along the IT Road in Kangpokpi. A Nepali man, identified as Ranjit Rai, was also killed near Yaolen in Ukhrul district. Security restrictions have been imposed in parts of the affected areas, and the situation remains tense.

UCM Urges Centre to Eliminate Proxy Armed Groups

Imphal, October 10: United Committee Manipur president YK Dhiren has urged the Centre to eliminate what he described as proxy terrorist groups operating in Manipur to restore lasting peace. He was speaking on the sidelines of the Langban Heisoi Katpa ceremony at Kekrupat, held in memory of those who sacrificed their lives during the June 2001 movement. Dhiren said Manipur’s 36 communities had coexisted for generations but alleged that attempts to spread hatred and mistrust were deepening divisions. He also criticised the authorities for failing to curb violence and for portraying the ongoing conflict as merely a dispute between communities.

KCP (MFL) Cadre Arrested, Arms and Ammunition Recovered

Imphal, October 10: A combined team of Imphal East Commandos and Central Security Forces arrested an alleged active cadre of the proscribed KCP (MFL) G5 Alliance during a search operation in Ngariyan Chingkhong under Andro Police Station. Police identified the arrested person as Pukhrambam Jackson. Based on information obtained during the operation, security personnel recovered an M16 rifle with two magazines, a .32-calibre pistol with a magazine, a 40 mm grenade launcher and a Chinese hand grenade. The team also seized 495 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition and two Baofeng wireless sets with chargers from the foothills near Gournagar. Further investigation is underway.

Bimol Akoijam Questions JNU Termination, Alleges Political Motive

Imphal, October 10: Congress MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has alleged that his termination from Jawaharlal Nehru University is intended to silence him as elections approach. Speaking to the media at his residence in Keishamthong Top Leirak, he demanded that the university make public the reasons for its decision. JNU recently terminated Professor Bimol following an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment involving 11 female students. He rejected the allegations against him and accused the BJP of interfering in educational institutions. Meanwhile, MPCC spokesperson Ningthoujam Popilal criticised the BJP Mahila Morcha protest demanding Bimol’s resignation as a Lok Sabha MP, alleging that the campaign was politically motivated.

Langban Heisoi Ceremony Calls for Protection of Manipur’s Integrity

Imphal, October 10: The Langban Heisoi Tamba ceremony was held at Maharaj Gambhir Singh Samadhi in Langthabal, with a symbolic black flag hoisted during the observance. Veteran politician Okram Joy urged people to pledge their commitment to protecting Manipur’s social and territorial integrity. Several local organisations jointly organised the event. Joy criticised the Centre, alleging that its policies had deepened divisions and mistrust among communities, and announced plans for a statewide black-flag campaign to express public dissatisfaction with the government. Former UNLF chairman RK Meghen said the ceremony held particular significance amid the ongoing crisis and stressed the need to preserve the spirit of sacrifice demonstrated by Manipur’s forefathers.

Residents Raise Concern Over Delay in Tharon-ICAR Road Project

Imphal, October 10: The Thangmeiband Youths Social Reformation and Development Committee has expressed concern over the prolonged delay in completing the Tharon-to-ICAR Road, part of the Imphal West Ring Road project. Committee adviser Ningthoujam Ibomcha alleged that although the work order was issued to Venture Company five years ago, the road remains unfinished. Speaking near Fishery Gate at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, he said the delay has caused considerable inconvenience to residents and commuters. He added that temporary repairs, including pothole filling, had failed to resolve the problem despite repeated appeals to the local MLA. The unfinished road has also affected access to Savio School, Hillside Hospital and nearby areas.

CM Attends National Summit on Women and Child Development

New Delhi, October 10: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand attended the valedictory session of the two-day National Departmental Summit on Women and Child Development, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi. The summit was held on October 8 and 9, with Manipur Social Welfare Commissioner Haobam Rosita and Director Sheikh Abdul Hakim also participating. Manipur was among the states invited to share experiences and best practices in strengthening women-centric welfare schemes. Addressing the summit, Modi emphasised community participation in Anganwadi services, child protection, women’s safety, adolescent health, nutrition and women’s economic empowerment. He also called for stronger Centre-State coordination to improve welfare delivery.

Manipur Observes World Mental Health Day

Imphal, October 10: Manipur joined the observance of World Mental Health Day 2026 through a programme organised by the National Mental Health Programme, State Health Mission Manipur, Directorate of Health Services and State Tele-MANAS Manipur at Hotel Imolesh in Old Lambulane, Imphal. The event was held under the theme “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change.” Health Services Director Dr N. Hemantakumar said the State Mental Hospital at Lamphel is expected to be completed by March next year. He stressed the importance of treating people experiencing mental health conditions with compassion rather than judgement and ensuring timely medical care. Health officials and students attended the programme.

Tankak Wins Best Film at First Yenning Film Festival

Imphal, October 10: The first Yenning Film Festival was held at Tanthapolis Cinema, Lamphelpat, marking the 26th Foundation Day of Share and Care and World Mental Health Day. Tankak won the Best Film award, followed by The Call in second place and Tolen in third. The festival was jointly organised by Share and Care, Tanthapolis Cinema and Singjamei 360, receiving 24 entries, with three films selected for awards. Festival chairman and psychiatrist Dr R.K. Lenin said Manipur’s continuing social turmoil had seriously affected mental health and highlighted the need for a dedicated mental health policy. He said the festival aims to provide a platform for young filmmakers.

World Audiologist Day Observed With Call for Early Treatment

Imphal, October 10: Audiologists and speech-language pathologists in Manipur observed World Audiologist Day 2026 at the Indian Medical Association Hall in Lamphel under the theme “Better Hearing, Brighter Future.” Former RIMS Assistant Professor Salam Ava, RIMS Assistant Professor P. Meenakshi and Senior Audiologist of Mekola Primary Health Centre N. Lydia attended the programme. Addressing the gathering, Meenakshi stressed that timely treatment can help prevent permanent hearing loss. She urged people experiencing hearing difficulties to consult a physician without delay. The observance aimed to raise awareness of hearing health and the importance of early identification and treatment of hearing-related conditions.

Workshop Highlights Medicinal Potential of Langbal Khoihee Honey

Imphal, October 10: Green Foundation Executive Director Dr Dhanraj has stressed the need for research and public awareness regarding the medicinal properties of Langbal Khoihee, a traditional variety of honey. He was speaking during a consultative workshop and exhibition-cum-sale organised by Green Foundation, Aditya Birla Capital Foundation and FICCI at Kwaikeithel Awang Thiyam Leikai. Dhanraj said earlier generations in Manipur recognised the honey’s potential, but its medicinal value remains unfamiliar to many people. He said Green Foundation plans to publish information about its potential benefits and medicinal components. Researchers, beekeepers and experts, including former Central Agricultural University dean Professor N. Iboton, attended the programme.

Bengaluru Athlete Wins Gold at National Cheibi Championship

Imphal, October 10: Bengaluru’s N. Arjit won gold in the Mini Boys Under-9 category at the first Invitational National Cheibi Championship held at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal. Manipur’s S. Surchandra secured silver, while Assam’s N. Chingkheinganba won bronze. In the Mini Boys Under-10 category, Bengaluru’s M. Punshiba claimed gold, with Th. Yohenba of Manipur taking silver and Assam’s H. Malemnganba winning bronze. Athletes from Manipur and other participating states also secured medals in the girls’ categories. Organised by the All Manipur Cheibi Association and Kangleipak Students Association under the Cheibi Federation of India, the championship features 120 athletes from five participating regions and will continue until October 12.

Manipur U-19 Women Beat Tripura by 74 Runs

Guwahati, October 10: Manipur registered a 74-run victory over Tripura in the BCCI Under-19 Women’s T20 Trophy Plate Group at the ACA Cricket Academy Ground in Guwahati. Batting first, Manipur scored 141 for three in 20 overs, with Taniya Ningthoujam top-scoring with an unbeaten 56 off 36 balls. Tripura were bowled out for 67 in 16.3 overs in reply. Shayantika Namadas scored 26 runs for Tripura, while Manipur’s K. Nonibala took three wickets and was named Player of the Match. The victory gives Manipur a positive start to its campaign. The team will face Nagaland in its second league match on October 12.

Sainik FC and RFCC Keinou Advance to Police Football Cup Quarterfinals

Imphal, October 10: Sainik FC Imphal and RFCC Keinou advanced to the quarterfinals of the first Manipur Police Football Cup, organised by the All Manipur Football Association in connection with the 135th Manipur Police Raising Day. Sainik FC defeated Trugpu FC Nambol 2-0, with Kh. Motilal scoring in the 56th minute and S. Basanta adding the second in the 90th minute. RFCC Keinou defeated RAU FC Lairikyengbam Leikai 7-6 in a penalty shootout after the match ended 2-2. The Round of 16 continues on Sunday, with TRAU FC Kwakeithel facing Raengdai FC Noney. Classic FA Chingmeirong will meet SSU FC Singjamei in the first quarterfinal.
